Whining...whining.... Whining !!
I am new to the boards and am hoping to get some help from others with a senior dog. My Tiramisu is going to be 13 years old in August and she has been with me since she was a pup. She is the love of my life and I hate to see her getting older. She started to lose her hearing a year ago or so and...

How do I get a golden not be afraid of the hoop?
I have a 16 month golden who is very smart. At least I think so. Learns quickly. In under 5 minutes I taught her to walk backwards with both verbal and hand signals. I had her jumping through a hoop for a short time. We worked slowly increasing height slightly each time we worked. About the 6th session...

6 yr. Old Dog Soiling Floor
About a month ago, I adopted a non-neutered male Pomeranian from a couple who was moving. He was in bad condition.. No vet visits or grooming. He had poop hanging off his butt and his fur was matted and gross. My fiancee and I have been working hard to clean him up. We've bathed him and started shaving...

Abused Animals Become Abusers
There is a general acceptance that humans that are abused have a greater tendency to become abusers themselves. A recent study on boobies (don't laugh) finds that the same trend is observed in birds. Maltreated nestlings exhibit correlated maltreatment as adults: evidence of a "cycle of violence"...

Peeing on the floor for attention?
My fiance and I bought a German Shepherd puppy a couple months ago. We had him completely potty trained within 1 week, but now at 14 weeks old he's decided to start using the bathroom on the carpet. We've noticed that he only does it when we leave the house and especially when my partner and...

Training a reliable stop or recall
This is a question for any other trainers out there. As a herding competitor trying to help others start their dogs, I am running into a roadblock with owners not being able to train their dogs to stop (down, stand, sit), or to recall off of stock. These are dogs that compete in obedience, rally, and...

On leash aggression
I have 3 dogs. Ruby is a 4 yr old springer spaniel. Jack and George are 18 mnth old Jack Russell Terriers. We have had Ruby since she was 5 months old, George since he was a pup and Jack since he was 8 months old. Jack and George are litter mates and all my dogs get on fine, but George is incredibly...

Aggression towards the Doggy Doctor
So, I have this relatively new dog. She's a 4-year-old Shar Pei, and we adopted her from a local breed-specific rescue. Nobody knows her history, beyond the fact that she was abandoned at the vet after an apartment fire. She loves people and other dogs, but is scared of cats. We were told that she...

I have 2 dogs-haven't posted in ages!! But I have a few answers and if you have any feedback for any of them, I welcome replies! Didn't want to post multiple times for the same 2 dogs. 1.) My 7 yr male Brittany: EVERY time we get up in the morning, he immediately bolts through the house to...

Aggression towards guys
Hi everyone. I recently rescued a sweet little terrier mix named Zeke. He is almost 3 and very well-behaved. At the shelter they informed us that he gets nervous around some men. He seemed to do okay at the park and on walks allowing men to pet him, but last night a (male) friend came over to the house...

He won't stop licking the kitchen floors
Argh...Kenny starting licking hte kitchen floors a few months ago and it's driving us nuts. Our house is an open concept so we can't keep him out of the kitchen. We aren't neat freaks by any means but we do sweep and mop regularly. Any ideas on how to get him to stop? We correct him constantly...

Advice on soiling the floor
I have sibling beagle mix puppies. They are 4 months old and doing well with house training...EXCEPT that the female has tried to take the alpha role several times in different ways and I think she is trying again by soiling on the floor when we leave the room regardless of whether she was just walked...

Random peeing by elderly cocker
Our 15-year-old cocker has high blood pressure, a thyroid condition, and Cushing's, all being medicated and monitored. In the past year she has started randomly peeing (and sometimes pooping as well) in the apartment. This is not a function of bladder control, because sometimes she goes for many...

Should I be correcting this?
Buddy has taken extremely well to having a little (well she's actually bigger than Buddy now) sister. I have never had 2 dogs at one time so I don't know if this behaviour is appropriate. I take the dogs to a local park where the same doggy people meet up every day. Ribbon loves to run and play...

My dog bit me this morning while sleeping :(
He has always been a bit grumpy when it comes to sleeping and hates to be disturbed but this is the first time that he has actually ever snapped at me. He was sleeping at the foot of the bed and I tend to move my legs around alot, while sleeping I pushed him a bit with my foot and he snarls and gives...

Growling when sleepy
Our pup Oliver has been doing much better with aggression towards people and other dogs. We have not had very many bad incidents at all. I've worked with various trainers and one thing that helped me greatly was working with a head collar and really working on our walks and micro managing. However...

10 month old German Shepherd chewing everything!
Our German Shepherd had finally started to calm down and had stopped chewing everything in sight. We had started commenting on how nice it is to have such a well behaved dog, listening to commands, etc. However, in the last few days, she has become very destructive! She has chewed up shoes, rugs, chairs...

Do dogs that hate humans love other dogs?
Is there a positive correlation between dog-dog aggression and dog-human aggression?

Need help with my dog
I need some help with my dog, Gibbs. He's a pitbull terrier mix we adopted Saturday. He's highly energetic, so we've been taking him outside a lot to walk him and play with him. However, he bites the leash somewhat frequently, whether I'm tossing his toys for him to chase or taking him...
