Boss came from a former neighbor when his landlord finally found out he had a dog.

    Gracie came from freecycle.

I would recommend anyone adopt from the shelter as well. Although dogs from shelters or other bad situations do have issues, they do enrich our lives, don't they?[:D]

My cats... Pookie and sister (sister Chelsie is now living with a family friend) came from a parking lot of an apartment complex.

Pookie's kids Sadie and Joker came from an oops litter

Frank was abandoned in our neighborhood 2 years before I moved there and had been living in my mom's basement.

Muffin was hiding under my porch just before Christmas two years ago crying her pretty little heart out.

Rocco and Angel were from freecycle a couple days shy of going to the shelter.

Sasha our GSD came from the Spartanburg Humane Society, Jake our English Pointer is a "Foster" through pointer rescue we picked up from a temp. foster in TN, and Samson our kitty was adopted from a vets office from a town we used to live in when his momma and kitty sister and brothers were found in the woods on someones property. I would definately reccomend anyone looking for a new fury friend going to a shelter and adopting and anyone near Spartanburg SC going to that specific one. [:D]

    Family dogs growing up:
Tuffy the ;pure-bred mutt - (at the bridge now) - oops litter that Mom & Dad found out about free pups
Bandit the malamute - (at the bridge now) - a neighbor who was scared of a 4 mo puppy cuz he dug up her yard, so my mom took him for $50 so she couldn't come back for him
Crystal the white lab - (at the bridge now) - my uncle couldn't keep her anymore so we got her, but she was originally traded to my uncle for some tools

Nigel the rotten/lab - was from a stray my best friend found wandering the neighborhood who had a litter of 7 pups (I got to see Nigel born [sm=wink2.gif])
Sydney the broken basenji - was found along the side of a highway at 6 wks old, put into a shelter and then to a foster home in WVA, found on petfinder.com by DH, transported to MA where we picked her up and moved to her to ME.

So, I think all of those count as rescues, don't they?  I would recommend the shelter or rescue without a doubt!!!!!!

I found Sara as a pup. I almost ran her over. I took her home and she was wonderful. I tried to find the owners. Even put an ad on Petfinder for a home, because at the time we were not set up for a dog. But I just fell in love with her. She had big problems with people coming to our house. She would bark and hide. So I thought I could never give her away when she is so in love with us. So we kept her. Best thing I did.

    Bree - free puppy.

    June - rescue

    Zippy - rescue

Puppy coming this year: bought from breeder

I bought one from a breeder.
I was raised that when you take on the responibility to own an animal it is for life.
I only had to give up a dog one time and it was because of a severe financial hardship and we gave the dog to a relative when he was three years old. (He lived another 9 years and yesterday morning we were with him when he had to be put to sleep).
One lady gave us her dog because she started her own business, another had gotten a dog and then did not have time for it anymore, another one was from a collegestudent with an elderly mother and was afraid the dog was going to make her fall( we got that one at 4 months old and she is a little more than 8 years old now), one turned out not to be a guarddog for someone and the owner was going to shoot the dog, one was from my neighbor that had gotten 3 pups from some people she cleaned for, she gave me the ugliest one out of the litter( coarse hair and underbite) which was ridden with fleas. She was about 7 weeks old and will turn 9 years old next month. I love that little dog to pieces. ...I will write a book if i keep going..lol...have a story about each one of them...
We eventually started to have to turn people down. Our friends know how much we love dogs and they started to call anytime they knew of someone trying to get rid of a dog or they would tell us some sobstory and we had to say: NO.
I want to give our dogs a good life and not have them to go without anything.

My boyfriend bought Simba for me as a belated Christmas present (very belated as he didnt come until end of Jan) from a local breeder, he saw both his parents and took photos for me to see too his daddy is V handsome.

I was looking at rescue centres before then and almost got to adopt a 1 year old Collie cross named Boss but unfortunatley they found out he had health problems and needed time with a foster and experienced owners (which am not)

I got the two badsenjis from a breed I met at a national basenji specialty.  I'd talked to several other breeders and talked to people who owned some of my breeder's dogs.  I met several of her dogs.  We got the brindle wonderkid on Halloween weekend and in July we got the Tri-ing one.

We got the Malinois through Malinois Rescue.  (I'm a real believer in breed rescues.  I've fostered several basenjis for a couple of different basenji rescues.)

Shiloh the yellow lab is from a shelter....Molly, lab mix, I saw her posted at work. Owner had to move out of state to care for her father and no pets allowed. She was one day away from going to a shelter.  Tank a pure breed chocolate lab...sons teacher begged us to take him because she no longer could care for him and loved the dog stories he would tell her about our furry family.

Stanley's also a rescue from a NYC high kill shelter. He was a stray before according to his shelter records.

Our next dog most likely will come from a breeder as we're looking for a Shiloh Shepherd. Otherwise, it's back to shelters.

    Hi..
Ginger and Peachy (sisters) - breeder
Easter, Happi, Debo, Poppy and Chirpie - breeder
WhoopieDo and Crimson - home grown (WhoopieDo was born on my birthday last year![:D][:D][:D]).  All my kids are hairless, I have terrible allergies and these sweeties don't 'do' allergies...LOL!!

I would steer people to rescue org and/or rep breeder for a new dog.  I always try to get people NOT to buy from pet stores or idiots (byb)  - in fact I have been asked to leave pet stores before!
