maintaining clean teeth
What have you found works best to keep your dogs teeth clean? I try to brush, but I'll admit I am not the best about remembering to do it every day. I have this gel that I rub on the teeth but it has alcohol in it and and the dogs seems to hate it so I feel bad doing it every day, lol. Has anyone...

In the market for a pair of clippers
My Osters are going into the trash. They are old (I bought them 13 or 14 years ago). They are clunky, loud, and heavy. They've had a long and productive life, but it's time for something newer and better. My needs are for my dog (mostly just a sanitary cut, and neatening some areas), possibly...

what's wrong with my dad's dog?
I need some help trying to figure out what is wrong with my dad’s dog, a 10 year old male Maltipoo. His symptoms are heavy panting, bulging eyes, anxiety, purplish tongue, maybe some coordination problems especially in the hind legs. It’s almost shock or seizure like symptoms, especially the way...

Update: How do you know when it's time?
My 11 year old dog is suffering from degenerative myelopathy. She has been slowly losing her ability to walk. It has gotten to the point where we have to assist her while she walks in the house and when she goes outside to eliminate. She has fallen down while in the middle of BMs several times. This...

sarcptic mites
My son and family had to put their german shorthair down a few weeks ago (cancer). They heard about a breeder who had one that would be available memorial day weekend. My son received a call today from the breeder who said the puppies and mother seemed to have excessive itching. He went to the vet who...

Questions about laryngeal paralysis (Frisby PI)
I took SInbad in to the vet today because he's been acting like he needs to clear his throat after he gets "bouncy". (He tries to hack something up but there's nothing to hack up.) It turns out he has some tracheal irritation and he is developing/has laryngeal paralysis (lar par). He...

Why Clean a Dog's Ears?
When it comes to ear cleaning, we are focused upon the external ear canal. Ear wax and debris can easily build up in the ridges of the external canal. If irritation (otitis) takes place (either from buildup or from allergies), the canal can become infected. Lack of adequate air flow to the canal can...

Charlie's eye surgery -- he's home (Callie)
Charlie had full cataracts when we adopted him -- he's had them since he was about 2 and he's just 7 now. Apparently the SOONER cataracts are removed the better. In normal cataract surgery in a dog they make a tiny incision at the top of the cornea (the colored part) -- there is a membrane...

Milk Thistle Dosage
I am going to try Pella on Milk Thistle for liver repair, from what I have read I should dose at 50% of human dose. The one I picked up was 250mg/80% Silymarin in capsules form. So, do I just open the capsule up and give her half of the powder. She weighs 73 lbs. Her liver level is high as I mentioned...

Lump
Pella has been on antibiotics for 10 days due to a swollen elbow which drained and she is now on 'cushioned' elbow therapy to help it heal. (good news is it is 90% better) She has had a small lump on the front of her back leg for some time, the last time at the vet, they said not to worry...

Shortening Nails
Gotti's nails are awful! When he was a puppy they didn't get cut often. He is 8 yrs old now. I try to cut them at least weekly to try and get the qwik to recede but I have been doing this for years and they are still long. Any advice? He is getting his teeth cleaned next week and I was wondering...

How do you bandage a front leg?
Ms Pella, our lab, decided to leap up on the deck landing and she fell on her front legs (elbows) and then her back legs gave out as well. (Talk about thinking she is still a young girl!) She was alittle stiff after the fall, but seemed fine. The next day her left elbow was swollen huge. I wrapped it...

What could it be? Grandma's dog is losing to much weight.
My grandma's dog Dez she's a rottweiler I believe she's 4-5 years old. Dez was a big girl about 120lbs but since getting fixed she has lost so much weight the vet doesn't know why they have run test on her and xrays the vet thought it was cancer but so far nothing. I'm worried because...

Charlie -- faster than I thot (Callie)
David and I took Charlie to the opthamology vet today. They did ALL FOUR "tests" today1! Wow!! 1. no glaucoma 2. both lenses are last stage cataracts -- it would have been better had he gotten the surgery when he was younger. The longer they 'ripen' the more apt you are to find glaucoma...

What Should I Do?
Hi guys. So, of course this has to happen on a Sunday when the vet is closed! Gotti had a small growth/skin tag removed from his knee area on Friday. It needed 2 stitches. We have kept him pretty calm all weekend, no walks, etc, but this morning he was feeling good and stretching and rolling on our bed...

Sad news re Sugar; Biopsy results p2 #17
Sugar didn't recover well from the last lavage for her nasal polyp. Monday I had her in to the specialist; he found a loose tooth, just dangling, and a bump on the bridge of her nose, up between the eyes. Today she went in for xrays, biopsy, and removal of that tooth, and a dental. Sugar has a malignant...
