What could it be? Grandma's dog is losing to much weight.

My grandma's dog Dez she's a rottweiler I believe she's 4-5 years old. Dez was a big girl about 120lbs but since getting fixed she has lost so much weight the vet doesn't know why they have run test on her and xrays the vet thought it was cancer but so far nothing.  I'm worried because my grandma boyfriend who has been living with her for awhile his dog got sick the same way but died few days after she got sick. When Dez first got sick the vet said she was mourning the loss of the other dog but I don't buy that because she was my uncles dog until he killed himself and if anything wouldn't she of mourned her owner?

My mom seen Dez today and said you can see her spin and the bone on top of her head. My mom said she can barely get up or walk she just lays there that's not normal for her.  Dez has been losing weight for about 3 months now. When Princess got sick she could barely stand and she wouldn't eat day she got sick I rushed her to the vet and found out her heart was 3 times larger than it should be and 3 days later she was dead :'(. Any suggestions at all please What should the vet be looking for I think she should take her some where else. We live in Citrus County so she'll have to travel for a specialist.  I just want Dez to get better she's a great dog kindest sweetest dog :( I guess I'm biased since she reminds me of my Princess.

Do you know how much the dog actually weighs?  Just saying that she looks thin may not be very accurate. Some dogs who get to a healthy weight look thin to their owners because they're so used to seeing an overweight dog. I would find another vet or specialist if the weigh loss is as extreme as you make it sound.  You say "when Dez first got sick".  What was she sick with at that time according to the vet?  Too many unknowns to make any guesses on her condition or possible illness.

I agree.  I think I would find another vet.  Dogs do not normally lose as much weight as I gather she has lost, without reason.  My first thought was cancer.

I would also be seeking another vet pronto.  And yes, many of the tests may have to be redone, so be it.

Is she eating and what?  With all the recalls happening, that is one consideration.

Thyroid, diabetes, Cushings, poisons, cancer, there are so many things possible.

Dr. Lynn Comans in Lady Lake is REALLY good, and Dr. Kelly Krause in the Villages is also really good - both of them are holistic but my vet says really good things about them and has recommended them to others.  They're both in Citrus I think

The vet is worried about her losing so much weight within 3 weeks of seeing her she lost 12lbs I don't know what food she's on I'll have to check that.Lady Lake is about 2 hour drive and the villages believe that's close I'll tell my grandma. Vets first thought was arsenic poisoning or cancer. I'll try to get more details on Dez. Gonna try and talk my grandma into seeing another vet she's going to the vet my dogs see their good but after few months should know something more.
