If a dog got bitten by a rattlesnake, how long would it take to show symptoms?

Not my dog, but extended family.  This dog and another got accidentally let out the door by a small child, and spent the night free. They had tags and owners were called this morning.

The owner has had her at the Vet now...

Symptoms would probably appear within an hour or less.  It can depend on the location of the bite and the amount of venom delivered.  Not all bites inject a full load of venom.   I hope the dogs are ok and usually dogs do survive most bites if treated promptly.  How do they know the dogs were bitten by a rattlesnake?

Thanks Jackie...I suspected that.  Just heard the Vet found 3 bite wounds...Sad

I do hope they're ok (were both dogs bitten?).  Around here it's pretty common for dogs to get bitten by rattlesnakes but luckily most survive with treatment.  I have my dogs vaccinated against rattlesnake bites.  If bitten, they still require prompt vet care but it generally means much less expensive treatment and most vaccinated dogs survive even severe bites.  Sending lots of good vibes for the dogs.

It looks like Dakota will be OK...Smile   I still wonder if the snake might be in their own yard.  Hope not, but I would be a bit paranoid, just in case.

Glad to see this update.  I'm paranoid about snakes in our yard since we've killed several over the years.  I don't normally kill snakes, even venomous ones, but if they're on our property, they don't get to live if we find them.
