A kennel specifically for long term members to chat

Glenda, I had to chuckle when I read your post about reclaiming your car! I have two large crates in my Subaru--there isn't room for anything except a passenger (when I haven't filled up that seat!).

It is cold here, tonight, too. I just got back from a quick walk with Mozey and it's already down to 36. I heard there might be snowflakes in the air later tonight--brrrrr.

Doug, I hope the change in meds works!. I remember ice fishing as a kid with my grandfather. I think he was of the mind that the ice had to be well over a foot thick and the whole pond had to be frozen--smart man! I don't remember the fancy "houses" I've seen on TV out on the frozen lakes, though. Is that a new thing? (Or a Minnesota thing?) Grandpa lived in Vermont on a farm--he likely didn't have time for a hole house on the ice!

I think "ice fishing" is the excuse.  Wide screen TV with a satellite dish, central heat, carpet, and mattresses  in a trailer house with holes in the corners.  Real men use a chisel to punch a hole, then sit on a 5 gal plastic bucket with their back to the wind. (I don't ice fish any more)

i never got to try ice fishing. Dad loved it and just the way you described Doug. He liked to take one of us girls once we were ild enough. then Sis fell through the ice so that put an end to that before I was old enough to have a turn.. Luckily for my sister dad was a medic in WW2 and a firefighter before the days of specialized EMTs so well versed in rescue and emergency care. I can't see mom ever putting her foot down so that episode probably cared daddy pretty good.

After yesterdays really cold and wintery weather which followed four days of raun our temps today are supposed to be in the 50's. Beautiful sky, no wind and relatively warm. Ahhh! Dixie will have a very long walk today.

Friday she scared me out of 10 years growth....ptobably not a bad thing since at thi s age growth tends to me out! Something had fallen behind the freezer and a loaded 20 cubic foot deep freeze isn't something I can move. I was on top of it with my grabber stick and Dixie seized the moment. I hadn't fully closed the door in the kitchen or on the sun porch and didn't realize either was partially open. Once I made the retrievable and did a quick first floor search I totally freaked knowing she had gotten outside. We are talking a Pyrenees here and a deaf one to boot! Dashed outside and there stood Dixie looking for all the world like she was just waiting for me to finally show up! Yikes!

She dose this cute little really cute "you can't catch me" feint and is absolutely delighted when we do it back. At first it seemed to confuse her....wait a minute you're supposed to chase me....but now she loves it and sees it as a cue to play. She especially likes to "chase" me!

Can you tell that I'm completely in love with this girl? And t o think we feel in love with her on the internet. Yep, the right dog really does come into our lives at just the right time!

Doug, your description of "real men" ice fishing sounds like my grandpa, but I imagine he took a milking stool with him (or a metal feed bucket--cold for sure!). I remember yelling "tip up" when a fish bit. And I remember he had some kind of hand auger to make the holes. This was a few years ago....(OK, like 50 years ago, but who's counting?) A local family had to surrender a black and white English springer spaniel--my heart broke for the family, because it was clear the dog was well loved. I was so tempted, but I've reached the town's limit of three dogs. (The dog has already been adopted, too.)

Glenda, I'm glad everything turned out OK! I remember when I saw the pictures of my Mozey (that an old iDogger had posted when she fostered Mozey). I knew in an instant that I wanted to adopt her and drove to Pittsburgh to get her when was was medically cleared, so I totally get it!

I posted a note for Sandra --she's going to have to "join" the iDog kennel, as that's where the chats are housed. I tried to write out how to do it, but I'm not sure I got the right labels for the buttons she'll need to click.

well no darned wonder I have such a hard time finding chat! Glad you posted Kate or poor Sandra might never have found it.

My DAD used a hand auger too. Not mygrandpa, dad! Guess I really am getting old.

As much as I adorethe GSDs from the time we lost Theo I wanted to stay open to just the right dog. Boy did we ever get that right!

Dixie is not wild about getting a bath. Still she was very cooperative. No escape attempts or whining. But did she do some crazy

zoomies when we were done. She's done zoomies before but never quite like that. Now to return the recliners and the 10 x14 livingroom rug to their proper places!u

    • Gold Top Dog

My Prissy used to run zoomies after a bath -- I miss it.

I can't seem to find time to check in every couple days . . . I think it's been a couple weeks.  Too much going on at work and a fairly busy calendar at home, too.  I get behind on everyone's news here!

Glenda, I was very sorry to read about the terrible saga that Chris caused you and Ryan to experience.  How insensitive and selfish of him.  I'm glad you got to spend time with Jon, even if it was a brief visit.  I'm also glad that Dixie's "escape" was for only a minute and a few feet away!  Having a dog get loose unexpectedly is scary enough -- it would be terrible with a deaf dog -- you can't call them as you try to find them.  Yikes!

Doug, I had to laugh at your "new friends" all having the first name "doctor" as you get older.  I was thinking something similar the other day when I was looking at the contact list I carry in my purse -- several of the phone numbers are medical offices.  I'm in pretty good health, but it sure seems like I've got quite a few professionals on the call list!

All your ice fishing memories were making me chilly!  I've never been ice fishing, but one January several years ago I had to go to Wisconsin for a work trip.  My boss was from WI and in our free time (there were a four of us on the trip), he drove us around to see many WI sights.  One of them was a lake that seemed to be COVERED with ice "huts" (most were much nicer than the word implies).  It was an amazing site, people, structures AND vehicles all over the lake!  I don't know . . . I love winter and I loved ice skating as a kid, but I think I'd stick to buying my fish at the market.  :-)

I miss the post-bath zoomies that Tonka did.  Made us laugh every single time.  Ruby doesn't do zoomies after a bath, but she does them nearly every day "just because."  It's a good thing we have an open floor plan.  But, as you said Glenda, we have to rearrange the occasional piece of furniture or area rug when she's finished with her laps!

Belated congrats to Rock on his "graduation" and good luck on his internship!

Had JR out for a run today-a break in the rain.  Walked through water in the WMA the whole time.  We've had about 4 inches of rain in the past few days.   This dog loves to splash.  Fortunately, after his jaunt into the plowed field, there was enough water and weed action to clean him off.

My newest new friend is South African and a specialist who graduated with honors-I think that is required to be a Mayo doctor.  I wish my GP had warned me.  If she gives up medicine, she can be a runway model. Discovered that I am bashful, at least on the first date.

We had a police shooting in Minneapolis a few days ago.  Kid was beating up a woman and preventing the first responders working with her.  Police claim he reached for a gun.  For some reason, the beat up woman is never mentioned on the news.

Sky is still working on training us.  He likes to watch us get up and open the back door.  Then he stands there looking innocent.

twice I took Dixie out this morning. Twice she watched the birds flying the cat stretching two houses down. Basically just sniffed the air and greeted the day. What she didn't do was potty. Finally had Todd take her out and yep she did both. Sigh. I also need to come up with some sort of barrier to keep her in the back of the car. Hasnt done it once since I took the crate out but both times I got out of the car today she was in the drivers seat. Luckily she did not get into the groceries i had stashed in the passenger side foot well. Thinking cap on now.....

So busy here at work  and loaned my laptop to my Mom while her's is in the shop.  Just wanted to stop by and say hi.   Have a good weekend all.

Tracy and Doug, I thought of both of you last night because I was at the live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion (probably my favorite radio show). Tracy, it was broadcast from the Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT. Guy Noir, Lake Wobegon, a reference to tater tot hot dishes, great music (three of the musicians were former Red Clay Ramblers) and more. The cast is amazing, too. So much fun!

Kate, that sounds like a fun evening. I went to that theatre once years and years ago. One of my friends here went to see a taping o f "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" in Portland a couple years ago. She said it was really fun to "see" some voices she'd been listening to for so long. She also said that there were more funny moments than what ends up being in the show when it airs, simply because they edit out lots of stuff to fit the show in the time frame they need for air play.

It is cold today --- woke up to temps in the low 30's and definitely needed my scarf and gloves on the drive to work. The heating system is so messed up in our office building that I still have my scarf on, and I'm wearing a fleece jacket while at my desk. Thankfully I have a small space heater under my desk!

finally getting back here. Spent three days in the kitchen and yesterday recovering! But, come thankgiving all in need to do is put the turkey in the oven, make the stuffing and the garlic mashed. Pies are done. Squash and sweet taters done. Five loaves each of pumpkin. Zucchini, cranberry and banana nut breads done. Oh and the baked beans. The two cranberries I'll do tomorrow. Now least anyone think this is way too much food for three people. ...a loaf of each bread and a dutch apple pie went to the guy who lives in the other side of our duplex. Figured since he had to smell those heavenly aromas fo r three days he was probably drooling. Then I have a neighbor who is a single mom with three kids....great mom and great kids....who works three jobs. She got sweet taters, pinwheel and butternut squash, one of each bread, two apple and one pumpkin pie. Left out a loaf of each type of bread...all gone already and that leaves one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas. However had to stop so I didn't have to duct tape the deep freeze to keep it shut.

I did come up with a barrier for the car. After cleaning nose prints from the windshield and slobber from the front windows again I hadto come up with something to keep Dixie in the far back when I need to go into the store. The crate takes way too much room. The acid test will come later when I go to the allergist!

Sounds like everyone is keeping busy and having some fun.

Very cold here but tomorrow is supposed to get up to 45 so looking very forward to that. And so far not a single flake of that nasty white stuff. Phew! I do wish I could trust Dixie to stay home alone. The little battery operated heater I have on the car for her isn't going to cut it whw winter really gets here.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone just in case I don't get back again before then!

Good morning all,  I loaned my laptop to my Mom for a bit so I haven't been able to catch up.  We have another computer but I rarely get on it, Ron uses it.  I guess I am gonna have to break down and get with the new "smart" technology.

Waiting to hear from the Vet.  Today was Garth's neuter appointment.  He weighed 60 lbs..mostly all legs :).  Took him in before work and will pick him up when I get off.   He was a very good boy this morning especially considering his normal routine was all messed up.  He is normally a pest when I am getting ready so he is usually outside that time of morning.  I got hubby up early to keep him occupied  while I got ready for work and wouldn't you know it....Garth made a lier out of me.  He laid down at  hubby's feet and went to sleep...really where is that other dog that wont leave me alone long enough to dress, ha!

In case I don't get back on here

I am thankful for all my "Doggy Friends" :)   Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday, I may go to Glenda's that's where all the food is.

We may very well have a number of visitors....and that's just fine. Always room for one or ten more!

OK, I give up. UNCLE. Dixie 1 Barrier nothing. and even worse, Dixie 2 seat belts 0! The first seat belt she got to she was inside a crate but managed to pull enough through to have a grand old time. That was a back belt so I wasn't terribly upset with her. However, the barrier failed the acid test yesterday. She defeated it in less than 5 minutes. Since the doc was running late I watched her from the window and yep, under 5!

Sadly, she ate part of another seat belt. Came out of the docs office and discovered that the DRIVERS seat belt had been partially chewed through. DS ordered one after work (he keeps claiming her as HIS dog) but went out this morning and used GORILLA tape since the duct tape wasn't holding it until the replacement arrives. Seriously?????? She is NOT a chewer. After temporarily mending the seat belt, cleaning the nose prints off the windshield and rear view yet again, as well as the slobber off the front passenger windows, I retrieved a large plastic crate from the basement and installed it in the back of the car. It has as much usable space, but is just enough less wide to allow the small rear set to remain in place. I don't like having a crate in my car, but, I don't like cleaning off the windshield and replacing seat belts either. She wins. Taking bets that she'll hate the crate that isn't nice and open........

Last year we had a huge snowstorm on Thanksgiving. This year our high will be 56! Hands down liking that better!

Hope no one has to hit the grocery store today!

While I'm grateful for all the usual things, I'm with Ginger....our Doggy Friends ROCK!
