lol sooo basically pico de gallo is salsa!  I have a jar of that in my fridge, but see, here up north, our saaaaalsa comes as different kinds!  We have "mild" "medium" and "hot"!

And thanks for the tortilla update!  I will look for the package that says "tortilla" :D  And I don't have a cast iron skillet, so perhaps a frying pan or oven will do?

Oh, just do it like all the other non Texans do and heat 'em in the microwave! lol  Salsa in a jar!  **faints from the thought**  Actually, you would have to see and taste the diff but pico de gallo and salsa are different around here.  I guess you are all going to have to come down and Amanda and I will cook up a mess of fajitas and then you will never want what passes for Mexican food anywhere else.  Do you get that I am passionate about my Mexican food?  It's one reason I can't ever get rid of these extra ten pounds. lol    It's actually called Tex-Mex because it differs a lot from true Mexican food from Mexico.  We rarely find authentic Mexican type cooking in a restaraunt here and would probably think it was weird that they called it Mexican food.  lol

    I'm having chicken noodle soup.

In my part of the woods that's called "Jewish penicillin".  It's good for what ails ya !!

    Deb W.

Yes it is, I made it here Sunday, complete with homemade soup dumplings and egg noodles.

And, now to add to my growing hunger pains, I get this email. I can see I have to stop at the grocery on the way home.

Yeah, my parents used to say that.  And horseradish is Jewish Dristan!

ahh Jackie!  I think we have found common ground here!!  The pre-shredded cheese I use is called "Tex-Mex"!!!!

And mmm Mexican food!  But Taco Bell is soo bad for you!  I love though, making my own tacos, using the Old El Paso taco kits!!  It's great because I buy the ones that you get both hard and soft tacos!

Heather, I've tasted Atlanta bbq, & well, honestly, it wasn't nearly as good as Texas bbq.  Of couse, Texas bbq can't hold a candle to Kansas City bbq, but neither here nor there....

What y'all need is some Eastern NC BBQ - now that is some 'cue!  (honestly I think of Texas when I have beef brisket BBQ and it is very nummy!)

Hey L.Michelle the real question is do you say torteeYa or tortiLLa.  DH is English and they say the latter - I trained him right though!

Dawn, Bugsy is worthy of his own cartoon - I suppose I'm the goofball owner - sort of Marmaduke owned by Lucille Ball or Carol Burnett.

Tina I read Marmaduke daily and seriously it is fairly accurate LOL

You have all succeeded in making me even more hungry than I already was Hmm didn't even think that was possible

Ick, I don't like it either.  I was actually referring to North Carolina barbecue.  Big Smile  I keep forgetting ya'll don't know that's where I'm originally from.  Sorry about that!

It's a well-known fact that barbecue is only properly made in North Carolina. Wink  Shredded pork, not beef, with a vinegar-based sauce.

Now, you want the worst of the worst...South Carolina BBQ with that nasty mustard-based sauce. Ick!

Ok, now I'm jonesing for some BBQ and Brunswick Stew.  This turkey sandwich just ain't cuttin' it.

ETA: Thank you Karen, for backing up the NC BBQ thing.

I sure am glad I am having Mexican food for dinner tonight...the only thing missing from this conversation is tequila!  SLURP!

I think Jackie did a pretty good job of summing it all up....but the taco bell comment...ugh....I don't think that is mexican food, just fast food, taco he** is what I call it!  I do like making my own tacos sometimes though with hard taco shells and all the fixins!  Here in Texas, I think a good majority of us survive at least 90% on our tex-mex food so we are rather passionate about it.  Heck, I had breakfast tacos from the mexican place across the street this morning too!

Well, thank y'all very much!  I'm now starving & my only options right now are sammies.  *pout, pout*

I printed that out too. Looks like a great recipe. Now I'm starvng for fajitas and spice bars.

I think we do a really good job with mexican food here in Cali. I grew up in So. Cal. and there were so many really authentic places to eat. They weren't always the fanciest of locations, but the food was yumalicious!! We also had 3 huge avocado trees in our backyard, so guacamole was a common thing in our house. Man, I miss those trees :(

I guess a cold front has descended on most of the U.S. We were around 100 this past weekend and this morning we're in the low 60s and only supposed to reach mid-70s at the high. What a nice change.

We have a Mexican here at work who actually can cook!  So we always invite him to everything and request something "authentic" Smile  Sadly, he is back in Mexico for a week so we are without for now.

Pico de gallo is different from salsa in a jar -- but not so different from the homemade salsas I have tried.  There is much less liquid and everything is in easily definable chunks rather than kind of smooshed together and squished.  Of course, my pico experience is only from Qdoba.

We make our own enchiladas -- but I mix salsa in a jar with salsa con queso in a jar, and use that for sauce.  My coworker is supposed to get his mom's real enchilada sauce recipe for me, though.  apparently Mexican's toss in everything but the kitchen sink into recipes, sometimes there are 50 ingredients or more, but all in very very tiny amounts - like chocolate in things!.

Now this BBQ... seems we really must not do it well up here,  I've not been a very big fan.

Mmmmmm.... almost time for lunch here, now I'm starving!

Cathy, there were 31 recipes in there, I personally am really targeted on the ginger pear gallette.

Mmm, you guys are making me hungry!  I'm home sick again but I'd still be game for Mexican food and/or NC BBQ!

Duh! Thank you. I didn't notice it was a slideshow. I printed out the oatmeal cake and apple upside-down cake too. The ginger pear gallette looked yummy too. I'm so glad the weather is changing and I can start using my kitchen again.
