I just got a carpet cleaner and I don't know why I waited so long!!  Love it, love my carpet again.

Yeah, with dogs and cats, a carpet cleaner is a must.  Between Shari, Bear, Maggie, and Agnes, not to mention the evil cats, my carpet has suffered.  Since I can't afford to replace it with what I really want right now, my Kirby w/carpet cleaner option has been a doGsend!

I'm writing my first collections letter to an a-hole customer today.  He started off giving us the runaround on a past due invoice, and now he's avoiding us altogether.  Is he prepared to go to court over $800?  We shall see....

Ask him if he can spell G-A-R-N-I-S-H-M-E-N-T

In Texas you can't garnish wages exept for child support.  Here you can take them to small claims court if it's under a certain amount.  We did that once with a customer who wouldn't pay for his new a/c.  Our other alternative was to file a lien on his house but you don't collect until or unless the house is sold.  He did pay us and is still a customer.  He's a strange duck, no offense Corky, and I ran into him yesterday in Target and thought I would never escape.  He should be on the WalMart People site. lol

NICE!  This first letter is threatening to turn him over to a collection agency.  The next letter will be from our lawyer, I guess.  I dunno what the next step is, TBH.  But my mom is an accountant, so she helps me when these kinds of things come up.

Amanda, that guy must be stalking you from your home too or he wouldn't know when you're going to be at the coffee shop at a different time or when you're going to arrive in the parking lot at work.  Creep. I spent a good part of the a.m. with a very nice but gabby city inspector and now I have to get smoke detectors for all the bedrooms and new outlet cover thingys for two outside outlets involving pool equipment and spa jets. I also need to find and sit down with a really good, competent tax person *sigh* - it never ends.

This morning I drew up a "landscaping plan" for my backyard.  I showed it to BF, and he actually seems excited about getting this project started! Usually it's like pulling teeth to get him to do stuff like this, but I think he's as sick of dealing with our backyard issues as I am.  A little while ago I walked into his office and he was trying to look up sod prices online.  Haha!  Go, BF!!  Then he started complaining about what a PITA it's gonna be to prepare the bare spots for sod.  I told him that's what buddies are for. Give them some beer and grill up some burgers, and they're happy to come help out.  I bet if we get two or three of his friends over to help, they'll knock it out in no time.

Heather, be sure not to give the guys any beer until the work is done!  Trust me...Stick out tongue

Wow, you've all been busy today. Fun reading, except for Amanda's stalker. That's creepy.

I'm very glad that I went back 1/2 days. I'm whipped and since I didn't eat anything until I got home, I feel crappy. My temp replacement did an excellent job and even improved some of the processes that will make my job easier. Yay for young, innovative  people :).

I swear I never felt like I went to sleep last night. I know I must have but I remember being awake off and on all night long. DH has been having horrible insomnia. He's tried melatonin and benadryl and nothng seems to be helping. I really want him to see his dr. about it but I know that'll be hard to sell. I worry about him leaving to work a 48 hr shift when I know he's that tired though. Hopefully he won't get called out to any of these huge fires.

Cathy, I'm not surprised you feel wiped out. :(     I'm glad the temp didn't make your job harder and made some improvements.  Send them here when you don't need him.  I hope your DH can get some help for his sleep problems.  I wish I had some good suggestions that you haven't already thought of.  I hope you both get some sleep tonight.

I hope you both get some sleep tonight.

I hate to say it, but since he'll be gone, I'll probably sleep better. That's not usually the case but with his tossing and turning the last few nights, I won't miss him as much as usual. I had gotten the all clear from the dr. yesterday, so that added to some of the sleeplessness Wink

I really should go outside and give Sassy a bath. She's still so itchy and I think a bath with the medicated shampoo would help. We changed her to venison & sweet potato a couple days ago, I've upped her benadryl and started giving it 3x a day plus I'm giving her the Atopica every other day instead of every 2 days. It's going to take time for it all to be effective but I hope it turns around soon.

Ron - how big is Buck? I've seen pictures - but it's hard to tell...

In the pics I have posted thus far, he is between 62 and 64 lbs but he weighed 70 lbs before B had sent him to live the other people. I haven't had a chance to measure his height but I want to say it's between 18 and 20 inches to the shoulder, at 7 months.

For the record, the first and second vet also spotted him as Akita, though they are not self-described or recognized judges of the Akita breed. I imagine the made such statements, tests aside, from being vets for about as long as I have been alive. But they could be wrong. However, at the shelter, he was listed as an Akita mix by the staff. So, only one person, the rescue contact in Houston, feels he's not very much Akita.

After I posted this morning, I remembered a local rescue called Lezee's Legacy. They handle even problem dogs, such as a Rhodesian Ridgeback with behavioral problems. The last time I saw them was at an adoption event at the Petsmart in McKinney, Texas. I might give them a try I wouldn't want to give up on him now. One of the original treatment options for his broken leg was euthanasia because of the idea of a large, heavy dog like him suffering problems from walking on 3 legs. But the vet was committed to saving him and his leg and it has worked out well, so far.

And thanks for the help and support of everyone here. The good wishes go a long way.

I just tried another rescue, this one for mixed breeds. Turns out they have no room for dogs over 20 lbs. And then I got scolded with the line, "Dogs are not disposable!" in just that way.

Look, I'm just trying to help out a friend who feels bad that her pet has to stay indoors so much. And wanted him to have something she can't provide right now, such as a back yard to hang out in. She hasn't had behavioral problems with him, just feeling bad that she has to leave him on the house for so long during the day. That's why she thought of having him live with the other people.

I feel sorry that I have put stress on other people. "He's not Akita enough." "You don't appreciate dogs enough." Yeah, whatever. If B had not adopted him, he would be at the Bridge by now. The animal shelter has a euth schedule. 7 business days after initial evaluation. So, I guess, I'll keep looking. I had not counted on getting gruff attitude. I get it. There are too many dogs and not enough resources and humans are bad.

Sorry to vent. Usually, I don't. I like to save it up and then blow up, once in a while.

Is our friend, B, perfect? Heck no. Has every decision she ever made been stellar? No. Just human. In my personal opinion of B, she sees her self as a caretaker of others, even if it overwhelms her. If she had left Buck in the shelter, he would have been dead for some months and would never have been hit by a car or suffered malnutrition. If she thought dogs were disposable, she would not have bothered travelling to Durant, OK to find an orthopedic vet who could save his leg. She would not have taken days off of work to deal with this, as well as the 99 other things going crazy in her life.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent, just a little.

Heather, just let me know if you need some Texas backup on that customer......We all have guns here, even the good guys. lol

Crud, Jackie, I missed this post earlier, sorry!  Yeah, Texas backup would rock!  You bring your guns, I'll bring mine, haha.  And our dawgs!!!

Aw - I'm sorry you're having such rough luck Ron. Callie has a pug contact in Texas, maybe she has some suggestions? I wish I could take him - but he wouldn't be happy in our crate setting - just not fair for a dog of his size.

Well. Kitty and I are back from the ER. He got locked outside last night - and must have gotten in a fight with a neighborhood cat. Poor guy has some punctures and scratches. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE my ER vet? They are the best, seriously. I'm going to bring them all starbucks next week. This is the same cat with the tail issue - same one that wont let ME do anything to him - but LOVES going to the vet. They can do anything... Confused Now we just have to have him test for FIV/FLK in 3 months... since he's not vaxed for that (being an inside only cat...) Fingers crossed that it doesn't absess...

Vent away, Ron!  That's what we're here for, and please know that we all know you're doing what's best for Buck.

Erica, sending healing vibes for poor Kitty.

I just talked to my friend about the fescue sod.  While not cheap, he can get it for us for waaaaay less than we thought we would have to spend.  WOOT!  I measured the yard today...we'll need 11 pallets (5500sf).  Woah!  Just goes to show you how eyeballing is NOT the best way to measure something (are you listening, fellas?!!, lol)
