I just tried another rescue, this one for mixed breeds. Turns out they have no room for dogs over 20 lbs. And then I got scolded with the line, "Dogs are not disposable!" in just that way.
Look, I'm just trying to help out a friend who feels bad that her pet has to stay indoors so much. And wanted him to have something she can't provide right now, such as a back yard to hang out in. She hasn't had behavioral problems with him, just feeling bad that she has to leave him on the house for so long during the day. That's why she thought of having him live with the other people.
I feel sorry that I have put stress on other people. "He's not Akita enough." "You don't appreciate dogs enough." Yeah, whatever. If B had not adopted him, he would be at the Bridge by now. The animal shelter has a euth schedule. 7 business days after initial evaluation. So, I guess, I'll keep looking. I had not counted on getting gruff attitude. I get it. There are too many dogs and not enough resources and humans are bad.
Sorry to vent. Usually, I don't. I like to save it up and then blow up, once in a while.
Is our friend, B, perfect? Heck no. Has every decision she ever made been stellar? No. Just human. In my personal opinion of B, she sees her self as a caretaker of others, even if it overwhelms her. If she had left Buck in the shelter, he would have been dead for some months and would never have been hit by a car or suffered malnutrition. If she thought dogs were disposable, she would not have bothered travelling to Durant, OK to find an orthopedic vet who could save his leg. She would not have taken days off of work to deal with this, as well as the 99 other things going crazy in her life.
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent, just a little.
