Shawn, you are truly a hero today!

    I second that!

And I am appalled that there's a chance this horrible man won't face any repercussions for what he did.  I seriously hope AC does take action.  I know you won't relent on this.  This puppy may not be able to see after this, but I know he can see that you truly are his guardian angel.  And it sounds like your vet is amazing as well.

Jackie, I hope that dirty cattle trailer has some sharp rusty metal in it, lol!

Oh, Fortune would be a wonderful name for this little guy.  It gets my vote.

Only just seeing this thread, and HOPPING MAD about that idiot owner and seething at the prospect he will get off scot free!

Sending lots of good vibes that they can save his sight and Kudos to you for rescuing him.

Hmmm, names.... I'm trying to picture this little guy in my head and I'm thinking Biblical, J.... so.... Job, Jonah or Joshua.

More biblical names: Ike (short for Isaac), Timothy, Titus

More "J" names: Jim, Joey, Jupiter

He's gorgeous now.  Does he even trust people?

He LOVES people. Especially kids. He was the biggest, most loving, gentle and sweet dog I had ever met.

Which is why I love dogs so much (especially rescues)- they're truely amazing.

Geeze, NC has some of the worst animal owners I've heard of.

Care2Adopt - you are an angle! I'm fairly sure that after rescueing the pup, I would have dunked that mans head in motor oil and held it. You are a wounderful person!

I'm sending good thoughts to your rescue puppy!

BTW - isn't Cody the Dobie that the NC Dobe Rescue wouldn't take?? I saw the story of a Dobe on CL that the rescue wouldnt take.....was that him.?

Man I just read this I can't believe how stupid some people are. Thank God that you were there to rescue this little guy. I hope he continues to do better and that his eyes get better. Thank your vet for all of us and give the lttle guy a hug for us.

Stories like these make me sick to my stomach.... imagine all the dogs out there enduring this type of torture who aren't lucky enough to be rescued!!! That poor puppy is so fortunate that you were there to rescue him.... BRAVO for you!! I would have done the same thing without even thinking....

I truly hope he doesn't lose his eyes......

I'm glad to hear that the pup is doing ok!

I can't imagine NC has the market cornered on neglect and abuse.

Hey, I go through Gaston every year on the way to Shelby!  There's a huge sheepdog trial there Memorial Day weeked.

Those pictures of Cody are real tear-jerkers.  I do love to see the happy ending.  He's a very handsome dog.  I hope the future is as bright for the new pup.  How about Scott - as in "scott-free"?

By the way, on the "dipping" - in the UK, farmers who weren't very smart would take their sheepdogs and dunk them in the sheep dip after running the sheep through, to kill the critters on them.  Now ask me what was in the sheep dip tubs.  Formaldehyde.  Farmer's wearing GLOVES and submerging his dog completely, eyes, ears, and all, in tissue-killing formaldehyde.  Dogs come up deaf - I wonder why?  Angry

So obviously NC dog owners aren't the only claimants to stoopid-ness.

WOW I hope the puppy is okay!!! That's insane.

Cody looks great, awesome job on saving him!!!!!

Little Pup is doing OK this morning, but the vet is pretty postive at this point he will be blind. But he is eating and wagging his tail and playing a little with the techs, so he can come home so long as I keep up the flushing and keep him on his meds. His whole vet bill was paid by vet techs, friends of mine in rescue, and the vet, so all I have to pay for is his meds, whoo hoo! Also, one of the vet techs totally fell in love with him so hopefully she will adopt him.

Get this. HE DOESNT HAVE MANGE. He had one TINY spot of hairloss and it turned out to be flea reaction not demodex. Idiot owner.

I am thinking so far on the names: Chance (For second chance) Trooper (for all hes been through) Karma (for what should happen to that guy, although this sounds like a girls name) and I saw another name on here I liked that someone suggested I will have to go back and find it :D

So i'm going to go pick him up around lunch time. I will post pics then!

Thank goodness this puppy has you for a neighbour!

    I can't believe some people

Isn't it amazing how such a tragic event can bring out some really genuine heroes?  You, Shawn, and all the folks at your vet's office...that is what you are...heroes.

Puppies can be pretty amazing - maybe with continued TLC he'll regain some sight. We had a rescue puppy that a drug-crazed dude through out a window (second story). It was to distract a cop who'd come with a warrant for the drug possession, etc. Needless to say it worked temporarily though they caught the guy ultimately - and it was unlucky for him that the cop "happened" to not only be an animal lover, but even connected with rescue of the exact breed of the puppy (I actually don't believe in chance). The puppy was a Border Collie and she ended up playing agility and flyball though she was troubled early on with some growth plate issues - amazingly she was fine later. Oh, that happened in another state, not NC - LOL!

Sorry Becca if my comment about NC was uncalled for but goodness I've never seen such insanity.  And as I said there are also incredible, wonderful things going on to try and turn those tables.

Great news about the pup and I hope the vet tech does adopt him.  There was an amazing story here where our SPCA decided to rehab a pit that had half it's face missing from fighting, been forcibly bred etc. and even with these horrible infected wounds she was wagging her tail and happy to see everyone.  I think she's been adopted now after they put her through obedience class and got her healthy.  Dogs are amazing!

    Great work!

Some humans are just... I dunno, idiots!  How awful for the pup.

I am glad he's ok, other than sight.

The name Breeze just floats out at me.  Because he's now free (like the wind).

I hope that he is adopted and loved soon :)
