Need prayers for little puppy

A neighbor's dog had a litter and one little one wasn't opening her eyes.  They named her Magoo.  She eventually did get the peepers open and was fine.  Everyone loved her name though!

Just seeing this.  All I can say is Wow.  Just wow.  How could someone be so stupid!  Dip...honestly!?  I was watching a rerun of House last night and a girl had an infections in her nether regions because she was using the "Jelly" as a contraceptive.  Turns out she was using Strawberry Jelly...ya, that's what this reminded me of.

Thank doG  you happened to be in the right place at the right time.  I can imagine how awful that scream must have been.  Its not too many things that will call my dogs away from their raw either.  The cops would have been at my door for an assault charge rather than theft of a puppy though...well, maybe both.  But Jeez!  Can you send him up my way after ESpence gets a piece of him?  You could name the pup Slugger after what I'll use to beat some sense into his idiot previous owner.

I'd name him something weird I think.  Like Diesel or Toxic or Dunk...hehe, I like Dunk.

Greased Lightning? :) I'm glad the pup will be ok...

This is why I should check idog every day--I missed this yesterday!

Let me have this guy for an hour or so.  I can think of several painful things to do to him.  I will start with hot motor oil...on his cajones!

I LOVE the name Trooper for him! You vet and crew are to be commended for helping with this little guy.  You are this pup's guardian angel.

OMG!  I havent been here all week.  Just saw this.   Thank goodness you reacted so quickly to save that little puppy.   He will be such a good pet knowing he was saved by an Angel.

Can I help? LOL!  That is the least  that he deserves!

I like the name Diesel, but Trooper and Fortune are  good ones too.  Magoo kinda strike me as well.  I pretty much no help with names, cause I like  them all.

He is back here and doing OK. I took a vote up at the vets office for a name and Trooper won, so Trooper it is! (Grease Monkey was second, but I thought it was kind of mean) He is bumping into things a little but I dont think the vet was right that he has NO vision, he follows toys when I throw them and when I was taking his picture he was looking towards the flash when it would go off. His eyes also suprised me: they are wide open (unless exposed to bright light then he shuts them) and normal colored, I guess I expected them to be more...traumatized.. looking. I took some pics but havent had time to upload them- will do tonight and post! The vet tech that fell in love with him is going to try to convince her husband to let her have a second dog, and if so hopefully Trooper has a new home!

This is just great news!  Yay Trooper!  I love that name.  Fingers and paws crossed that the tech's DH lets Trooper go home with them.

Wonderful news!  Yay Trooper nothing but the good life for you from now on!

Just seeing this thread and started crying at the thought of that poor puppy.  As someone else put it, thank GOODNESS he has you as his neighbor.  Trooper sounds like a perfect name for him.  Thank you for all you do for the animals in your area.  I actually recognized that picture of Cody (as a Dobe rescue owner/supporter).  I hope your efforts continue to save other dogs and that you can educate your neighbors and anyone else who will listen about the dangerous situation that happened here.

KUDDOS to you and special hugs to little Trooper.  I know he has an angel here in you, and many others around the country sending him good thoughts and prayers.

Make a scent HIS.  Get something that's an essential oil -- peppermint, frangipani ANYTHING ... but the more unusual the better.  Put a dot of it on a tennis ball -- show it to him and then roll it a couple of inches.  "Get it Trooper" -- he will -- roll it at him a couple of times until he 'gets' that it's a toy.  Then roll it further and further away -- he'll get it by smell and it will teach him TO locate things by smell.

Why can't we euthanasia people like this (puppy owner). To me it would be poetic justice.

I am SO glad you were able to save the puppy!! Reading what happened to him was horrifying. Sad I'm glad that he's doing better and in safe hands now. Even if he doesn't regain all of his sight, he is alive and will have a happy life now!

Oh my gosh!  Just reading this whole thread for the first time..from beginning to end. I can only say thank God for you,,,, you saved this puppies life and probably taught the puppys original owner a lesson...even if he gets away with it...if he truely thought he was doing the right thing...he knows better now.

I give you so much credit for saving him and I'm so impressed with your vet clinic for donating so much also to help this poor puppy live.

I'm just amazed at this. I'd really like to know what he was thinking when he decided to go and pull something like that. I fail to see just how putting motor oil on and injury would help or how it could treat a dog for mange. I'm shocked that someone could be so cruel to a little puppy. It's disgusting. Anyhow, it's good to hear that the poor thing lived, but it's a shame about it's eyesight. Hopefully he'll be able to see some, if not fully. Best wishes for you and the poor pup.

If you look up at the beginning pages you'll see that I explained that - it does *not* work at all well, but it is a very popular 'folk' remedy for demodectic (sometimes called "red" or "puppy" mange) having partly to do with the mite's predisposition to *eat* oil and the sulphur and chemical properties of the oil hoping to 'smother' the mites.

People in low-income situations, and who don't have the benefit of education often make very poor choices.  Lack of money or education doesn't make it right -- but it explains the 'why' of the poor choices.
