Goodness gracious thank you for all you have done for this pup - sending some healing vibes its way!

As for the idiot owner - North Carolina animal idiots strike again Angry

    Oh my....

The thought of that poor puppy's fate, if you hadn't been the hero, brings tears to my eyes.  I have a very, very hard time comprehending how anyone can listen to their puppy scream while "treating" them.

I do hope that your neighbor has a "learning experience" of some sort.  Is there any chance that he might retaliate?

OMG, I am so sorry to hear about this poor puppy! Thanks to you though this dog might have another shot at life. I will be praying he pulls through. I would have done the exact same thing in your situation. Things like this make me so angry and makes me really hate humans.

I can't even imagine... all the best thoughts in the world to that poor little dog, who I'm certain is one little puppy who is very, very grateful to you. I hope the animal cruelty charges progress appropriately.

That is so heartbreaking!  Poor puppy doesn't stand a chance with an owner who thinks sticking nose, mouth and eyes in oil is safe or reasonable.  And why why why does anyone get a puppy/dog just to chain it outside?  Living, breathing beings ARE NOT YARD ACCESSORIES!  Ugh, major soap box of mine.

Do let us know how the authorities are going to handle this situation.  You should be commended for saving a life, not condemed for stealing property!

Wow, just wow!  I have no words that I can type in here about your neighbor.  My heart is just shattered for the pup.  Healing vibes coming from PA.  Please keep us informed on the pup's progress & if we can help in any way.

Just got a call from the vets- little puppy is doing OK but she thinks that there may be too much damage to his eyes to save them. She has been repeadtly flushing them out but at this time she is not optimistic about his vision. The police took the man up there to look over the dog and the vet apparently chewed the man out pretty decently. The guy signed the dog over to the vets and they are treating his care as a good sam case and are donating most of the cost of the work done, she said she would just charge me for what medical supplies had to be used. Animal control came out and took a report and supposedly left to talk to the vets but they haven't been back. I highly doubt that charges will be filed but I will continue to badger them. Animal control and I are VERY friendly, since when I did rescue we took all our dogs from Animal Control. I live in Gaston County. They have the WORST gas chamber kill shelter of any shelter I have ever visited in my life. We're talking 20 diseased and injured dogs in runs with barely any cover, one bowl of food to fight over and no water supply. They even keep their cats all huddled together in outdoor dog runs exposed to the elements. They have a 90% kill rate. Their technology and knowledge can be described as "eight track technology in a blue ray world". Needless to say, we've dealt with disapointment in the rescue community here.

Puppy is going to be staying at the vets a couple of days until he is ready to come back here then he will be placed in a good home. I am working on getting pics but my cell phone camera doesnt want to cooperate!

He needs a name. Any suggestions? He is all black with a white spot on his chest. Looks like a little chow mix.

On a side note, this is a previous rescue from gaston county. This is Cody, who we rescued from gaston county shelter where he had been languishing for 3 weeks in a run with other dogs while absolutely no special care was given to him. When I took him home, he couldn't walk, we had to carry him to the car, he had wounds infested with maggots, and we later found out he had been shot. He also weighed 32 LBs, if I remember correctly. The last pic is him a year later and in his new home, where he weighs 95LBS.

He's blue by the way. You couldn't tell what  color he was he was so skinny.

    after three weeks with me

Scars. We called these his beauty marks. Amazingly, with prep H they COMPLETELY went away.

    And lastly: Healthy and happy.

Just wanted to show you what kind of idiots we deal with here on a regular basis. Cody was an owner surrender. Despite a HUGE petition, daily calls, newspaper articles on Cody, etc, no charges were ever filed.

I'd like to help in the transport!  I hope he doesn't mind riding in a cattle trailer that hasn't been cleaned out in a while.

Care2adopt, I thought we had it bad where I live as far as AC but your description of the Gaston facility is sickening.  I hope this little pup's vision can be saved but if not he will adjust.  The Vet deserves big kudos for donating her services for his care.

You are one of my heroes and I don't say that lightly.

I've been checking this thread for an update.  I felt so angry and sickened by the former owner's actions that what I wanted to say would have come out censored.

Shawn, you are truly a hero today! Angel  I think you should name the pup after you!

Those pics of Cody - unbelievable.  He's gorgeous now.  Does he even trust people?

He LOVES people. Especially kids. He was the biggest, most loving, gentle and sweet dog I had ever met. Everyone who met him fell in love with him. One of the people who donated to his care drove down to see him (She found out about him on dobermantalk.com) and he leaaaned against her and put his big blue head in his lap and just "hummmmmmmed" for an hour while she loved on him. He was so gentle. He didnt like other male dogs, but he liked everything else. There used to be a rescue site for him, www.helpsavecody.com that was filled with blogs, pictures, stories and day to day progress reports, but I closed it down just a few days ago, ironically enough. If you google "help save cody" you will get a ton of cached pages you can look at though, LOL.
