Willow was in a fight!

Lori, how's Willow this morning? Are you Ok? (((hugs))) I'm thinking about you and Willow today.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, how is our girl Lori?

I have to agree that there is nothing funny about this situation.  This was NOT a case of the little dog "not backing down", this was an unprovoked attack and not even remotely funny.

Lori, I am so very sorry Willow and your hubby had to experience this.

Many years ago, Shari was attacked (also unprovoked, the dog tried to kill her) and it made her nervous about any dog approaching her for the rest of her life.  Shari did not defend herself - her natural instinct was to run away.  I've lived many places and always tried to walk her in familiar neighborhoods where I knew the dogs, but there are still only so many ways to get in and out of your own neighborhood.  In her later years, she was bitten in the face by a loose dog that lived half a block away from us.  We were minding our own business taking our morning walk - it was like 6:30a and the dog ran across the street to get to us.  I contacted animal control, and the owner started keeping it tied up.  Too bad for the dog, I know, but it was obviously dog aggressive.  And Shari always got car sick, so driving somewhere else for our walks was really not an option.

I hope you, Willow, & hubby are feeling a bit better today and that their injuries aren't too severe - physically or emotionally.  (((Hugs)))

LOL! I am sorry I got to laugh because I know how you feel but I have Jacks and they get attacked by bigger dogs either loose or tied to a F'N foot stool. Lesson to be learned.. don't walk the dogs in the neighborhood go elsewhere ... park, trial or whatever. but I have to applaud that Jack that's what a terrier is all about, no fear and who gives a rats *** on the size. My Scout will not back down to any dog and I have to watch out for that. That's why there are terriers in this world.

Huh?? Confused How old are you?

Lori,  I hope all is well with Willow and her injuries aren't bad.  Gosh, people just don't know their own dogs sometimes it is sad.

How awful!  I have been in a similar situation when I was walking Zack and a neighbors dog got loose from its owner and went right for Zack and knocked him down to the ground.  It was very scary.  I hope you, Willow and your husband are ok.
    • Gold Top Dog

How awful!  I've never been in a situation like this and I hope I never am.  It must have been terrifying.  I hope all three of you are doing ok.

    • Gold Top Dog

Gosh Lori, it goes without saying, but I should have said it anyway.  Sure hope that DH is ok as well.

    Please update us on both.

And everyone?  Let's all remember the rules of engagement.....about personal attacks and all?

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, Lori, but if Willow had charged up to the terrier like that there would be an outcry.  SHe might even be dead by now, and the papers would be full of how vicious and untrustworthy Chows are.  Yet when little dogs do it, pepole think there is something "cute" or "funny" about it.  Drives me MAD!

yeah. People go on and on about vicious pit bulls and chows, and guess what breed of dog has bitten me and attacked my dogs over and over- JRTs. And the owners don't care, they think it's "normal" and/or funny or somehow the fault of the other dog. They don't realize they are very lucky my very large dogs haven't killed their little untrained uncontrolled terrorists. The time I had to peel one off my Danes throat and then it tried to kill me so I had to kick it repeatedly in self-defense- me and my dog standing there bleeding the owner of the crazy animal was screaming at us.

Thank you all SO much for supporting me through this!

She seems just fine today, THANK GOD!  Well, I should say quite sore and limping a bit.  But, she's putting all four paws down today.  And, all systems are OK, pooped and ate fine.  And, her color looks good, I don't see any bruising so looks like she's doing OK platelet wise too.

Her vet was booked solid today but we are going to take her just to make sure with another vet in the practice in the morning.  I'm sure it's not necessary but I'll feel better.

I went to Petsmart and bought all the rest of the Direct Stop they had and we won't be leaving the house without it from here on out.  I can't bare to stand by while she's attacked again. . .and I know this will occur again.  And, I work from 2-10pm so DH takes her out each day and he does like to walk her.  I don't want him to get hurt either.  He's doing OK too, a little sore too, but he's good.

Glad everyone's doing ok ! I have been on the opposite side of the situation, unfortunately, with my minpin boy. JRTs and minpins have a very similar temperament and Gobie has very high prey drive and is male dog aggressive. So this one day, a man is walking his golden boy in front of the house in the neighborhood, just as he always does. A very sweet golden, very happy, as I've patted him on the head and talked with his owner. I was very aware of Gobie hating this dog for no good reason. He bounced against the frontscreeen door (he's a good 15lbs, oversized) and it popped open! Zooooooom full speed ahead across the yard and he leaped into the air, attaching himself to the top of the dog's neck and hanging from the flowing red hair, whipping his head back and forth in an attempt to subdue this very large, quite perplexed golden retriever LOL. Ok well I wasn't laughing at the time, and the owner was laughing as it was happening but I was mortified! The screen door had been locked and he managed to bend it enough so the door popped open. Doh! Golden was fine, owner was in stitches. I later walked down to his house to make sure all was ok and apologize again. Anyway, very sorry this happened to your dh and Willow! Glad they're on the mend!

They don't realize they are very lucky my very large dogs haven't killed their little untrained uncontrolled terrorists.

Happened to us once, several years ago.  And, the little terrorist didn't live to tell about it, quite unfortunately.  One too many times, this JRT and his cohorts of unleashed buddies antagonized my dogs behind our fence.  The JRT came in through the wrought iron gate and Buddy got a hold him.  It was awful.  The owners of those dogs have not let the remaining dogs run loose again.

So glad Willow is doing ok and DH is too.

    • Gold Top Dog

Lori, I'm glad Willow is ok other than the slight limp and that your hubby is ok too.

Lori, I'm just seeing this thread now. I hope Willow is doing better, poor girl. If that'd been Apollo I'm not sure he would've had the restraint Willow did.

    On another note...

Totally, 100%, unacceptable on your part, jdata. Dog fights aren't anything to laugh at- you should know that. I don't buy into the "tenacious terrier" excuse for owning a poorly behaved dog. If you can't train and handle your dog, or at the least manage it for the publics safety, whether it be 5lbs or 100lbs, you have absolutely no business owning it- period.

What? A terrier is all about attacking an unprovoking dog out of the blue? Riiight.... I don't think that's acceptable at all. **sheesh**

    EXACTLY. At least you apologized!

I am glad Willow is OK today :) poor gal.

Terrier people so often seem to enjoy the aggressive behavior of their dogs. The dogs are supposed to go after rats, not run up behind unsuspecting dogs and attack them. I have a dog with a scar on a hind leg from an oh so brave rear attack. My dog responded by slamming the dog into the ground and growling instead of killing and the terrier owner was laughing not realizing my dog was bleeding and could have killed the little dog instantly. So again we see a breed being blamed for owner idiocy. I think any dog that exhibits any kind of propensity for dog-dog aggression should be culled from all breeding programs regardless of the dogs breed or other excellent qualities.
