Willow was in a fight!

I am infuritated right there with you Lori!  It just burns my hyde that we can't have a peaceful walk in our own neighborhoods because of ill mannered dogs; and moronic owners who allow it.  I have to avoid a great portion of my walking area because of it.

I do hope you guys can focus on putting some fencing up so Willow can go outside and play around safely.  It really does make up for it.

That post by someone on this thread who found humor in this situation floored me.  I'm sure I mis-understood the intentions of the remarks.  Surely.

I'm sorry to hear about Willow getting attacked. (I was just thinking that you guys had had a hard time recently with Willow too.) I hope Willow doesn't have to suffer from too much damage or effects because of this attack. Give her an extra cuddle or something for me (I don't know if she likes to be cuddled).

I agree with pretty much everyone else, nothing is funny about a dog attack. Especially an unprovoked attack. For all you know the other dog could die from complications and their idiot owner could blame Willow.

This is just horrible.    I simply don't understand people who do not leash their dogs when out in public areas.    Prancer, is ALWAYS on leash except in the fenced in backyard.   Its for her protection and the protection of any other critter she might decide looks fun to chase or harrass (squirrels have rights too !).

Lori, I hope you and Willow and your husband recover quickly from the physical and emotional trauma.   Hang in there.

Ugh, Lori, how awful.  What a lose-lose situation.  The same thing happened to Coke and Kenya.  They were both on leads and they walk nicely on a loose leash on the sidewalk (I don't even let them go on other people's yards even on leash).  Before I could think this car that had pulled up started to open and this Beagle came at us like a ball of furry and immediately attached herself to Coke's legs.  Then it started trying to jump and latch onto his neck but luckily he is tall and this Beagle was fat, plus his coat is very thick.  I was never so thankful my dogs aren't reactive, I can't imagine what I would have done if they were.  Probably have to kick the Beagle off and rip the owner a new one.  As it was, the owner came down screaming at her dog, yanked it in the air by the scruff of her neck and marched off without even apologizing or making eye contact with me.  Of course if my dogs didn't just shrug it off and keep walking, they would have been labeled the big bad vicious dog.

Lori, that's awful, I'm so sorry. I guess I'm glad for Willow that the attacker was little, and didn't seem to do too much damage, but little or big NO dog should be allowed to get into that situation where it attacks/frightens/endangers another dog. Poor you, poor DH, and poor Willow.

Lori, I'm so sorry, & I hope that your girl is ok.

I absolutely hate people who can't control their off leash dogs, & the "they are tenacious terriers" is not a valid excuse for an owner being irresponsible.  I have two "tenacious" dachshunds, but they are not allowed to attack other dogs.  EVER.

LOL! I am sorry I got to laugh because I know how you feel but I have Jacks and they get attacked by bigger dogs either loose or tied to a F'N foot stool. Lesson to be learned.. don't walk the dogs in the neighborhood go elsewhere ... park, trial or whatever. but I have to applaud that Jack that's what a terrier is all about, no fear and who gives a rats *** on the size. My Scout will not back down to any dog and I have to watch out for that. That's why there are terriers in this world.

I am sorry but you are completely out of line and should be enbarrassed that you even said this in a dog forum...it is in no way funny that a dog got attacked...what kind of person are you??  Do you have no heart.

Lori - I am so sorry this happened.  You are right, you shouldn't have to leave your neighborhood to walk your dog just because of igonorant owners!  Calming thoughts to you, DH, and Willow.

Thank you guys.  I'm so upset, I'm just rattled. . .

I knew she was hurt when she didn't get up to greet me at the door when I got home. There doesn't seem to be any bite marks or blood.  But, she cannot put any weight on her right back leg.  She's hopping with only three. . .

I'm just sitting here eating!  I'm SOOOO scared this is going to cause a relapse of her ITP.  I'm SO afraid. . .

DH was so upset he didn't yell much to the lady.  He said a car passing by stopped to ask if Willow was alright and people are usually not compassionate to the bigger dog so you know this dog was the troublemaker.

    • Gold Top Dog

Gosh that sucks!  Good vibes coming her way for a minimal injury to that leg and no relapse for sure!

We have a house right down from us with a bulldog that they don't leash and my DH has twice had to *kick* the dog to keep it from coming after Maggie (my reactive dog - she's fine if they don't charge and as long as they stay 4 feet away, but if not, well it's not pleasant) and the people still don't get it.  They added a dachshund a few months back and it's even worse - it charged me when I had both of my girls and a foster out and I screamed bloody murder at the owner since 3 30lb dogs (one reactive) vs. a young dachshund is NOT a good mix and luckily she caught it before it got to us.  My heart was racing on that one for sure.

I feel very sorry for the dog that came after Willow and also for Scout.

Also wondering what "backing down to any dog" has to do with this at all.  The dog started the attack.

I'm so sorry Willow had to go through that stress. I can't fathom why anyone lets their dogs off lead if they're reactive or prone to running off. I hope her leg isn't too badly injured and that she recovers quickly.

I am so sorry Willow had to go thru something like this and hope her as well as your husband have a speedy recovery.  I know that where we live is in the city limits and the local city police department has an animal control officer.  If something like this was to happen to my dog I would definitely get in touch wih him/her and make them aware of the situation going on in the neighborhood with aggressive dogs and unresponsible dog owners.  Justa thought but maybe you could see if there was one thru your local police dept or something.  Maybe even animal control in general.  It is neverok for a dog to attack another dog and just be written off as thats what their breed is known for.  Thats how these breeds get a bad rap from people because of ignorant dog owners.

    How's Willow this morning?

Give her lots of hugs or cuddles or belly rubs or kisses from us, all of them or just the ones she likes please!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow, I am so sorry!  I only just saw this.  I hope Willow is feeling better today.  Biggest hugs.

It's true that terriers are known for being prone to dog aggression and being very tenacious.  That does not negate the fact that dog attacks are NEVER funny and NEVER acceptable, NO MATTER the size of the dog!

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, Lori, but if Willow had charged up to the terrier like that there would be an outcry.  SHe might even be dead by now, and the papers would be full of how vicious and untrustworthy Chows are.  Yet when little dogs do it, pepole think there is something "cute" or "funny" about it.  Drives me MAD!

I really, really hope this hasn't caused problems for Willow... honestly, this is the least funny scenario I can think of.  I am thinking of you.
