Love or Hate It

But it is slightly annoying when people say - religion should be private, keep that religious stuff to yourself. Ghandi and MLK didn't believe that, thank God.

Thanks Becca!  I've been really surprised at the comments and a bit perplexed.  It's almost like people are afraid or feel that they're condemned.  To say that you wouldn't read someone's post because of their religous views seems a bit over the top, and again perplexing.  Can't someone who has a deep Christian faith also have something worthwhile to say about animals?  I haven't seen anyone using religion as a form of nutrition or training, or anything else like that.  I have personally prayed hard when I didn't know what was going on with Sassy and had to watch her suffering and feel completely helpless.

The "in your face" attitude is disturbing to me and not just because I am a Christian, but because it's a predjudice, just like any other.  To think that anyone would be turned off by someone else's beliefs, is sad and so limiting.  When you see someone with a cross or Star of David around their neck, do you walk away?  The signature line that I've thought of the most since this thread started is "nice matters".  I'm not sure who had it and maybe they've since left [8|], but it's just something that kept popping into my mind as I've read the criticisms in this thread.

And hey, Diane, if you DO get a third dog, you can change it from the YinYang to a peace symbol xD!!

Xeph:  Yep....I was thinkin' about that myself.  Yin -Yang wouldn't work any more.  Thanks for the suggestion.[:)] (That's if we keep Fauna, that is!)
    • Gold Top Dog
The Yin/Yang is beautiful and clever, I almost would hate to see it go. But Fauna's way cool. And I'd like to see you turn three dogs into a CND badge - that would sure take some doing. They might not look quite as comfy as when they are curled into Yin and Yang. [;)]

Thanks Becca.  I think I'll see what I can come up with.  Even if you don't keep Fauna forever, I'll see if I can weave a new signature with her included while we have her.

OH, how could I forget Houndlove's Chaucer quote? That made me scream out laughing the first time I read it, and still makes me chuckle every time HL posts. Sometimes it's a funny thing to see in the middle of a serious or highly charged discussion.

diane, You use the yin, yang, yon symbol [:)]

    Yes!  Excellent!

Ixas_girl:  This is cool.  I have to do some research.

I really like siggys...and enjoy individual perspectives or passions.  It also helps me to identify members easier.  I don't have one that I especially like, I like them all.  The large image siggys can be a bit distracting, as well as "large and in charge" ...but there is no size limit on the board.  And, honestly now that I'm thinking about it, I'd almost rather see a large one than to not be allowed the opportunity at all - like some other message boards.  A size limit would be helpful to those who have slow internet connections though.

I just meant that I don't enjoy the quotes for my own personal reasons, but that I have no qualms with them being on the board.

Same here.  I don't have any problem with them at all ... I just don't think they're as much "fun" to read as the dog related ones.

how could I have forgotten the bird-dog yin yang!!!  maybe because I don't see it enough!! LOL[;)]

I love the bird dog yin and yang, too! Every time I see it I stare at it, FASCINATED [:D]

I don't think that disliking the religious sigs shows prejudice.  Coming from a mixed religious heritage, and now practicing a non-Christian spirituality, I grew up and continued as a tolerant person of differing faiths, ethnicities, etc.  But, I think that there is much too little separation of church and state these days, and maybe that is what makes me uncomfortable seeing faith messages everywhere...  It is that very separation of church and state that keeps us from legislating prejudice after all, isn't it?

A religious sig expresses personal views...ok...and some people don't agree with those views....ok....

A sig that says how much someone loves Cocker Spaniels is a personal view. Now, I may dislike Cocker Spaniels, but saying that I dislike or am fed up of seeing sigs that talk about Cocker Spaniels is a little....well.....overly sensitive.

People have a complete right to express their opinions and beliefs as long as they do not insult others....so a general, inoffensive religious sig in my mind is no different from an "I am proud to be a herding dog lover" or "I am proud to be of such-and-such an ethnic descent " or "I am proud to like vanilla ice cream"....

    My 2 cents.

My favorite is the Chaucer hound sig ;)

The religious sigs don't really bother me.  I'll admit, I've seen some pretty close minded religious bumper stickers that have offended me, but nothing on this board has ever elicited that kind of response.  [;)] They may not be my favorite, but as long as they are not blatantly offensive I don't mind them at all.  People are allowed to express their views and sigs should be an outlet to do that as long as the feelings of others are kept in mind.

I also don't find the Darwin fish offensive.  I actually kind of like them.  A person has just as much right to say "I believe in evolution," as another has to say "I believe in God."  Just my two cents.  There are way more offensive things plastered on cars these days.  Personally, the abortion ones drive me nuts.  Just what I want to look at on my way to work! [8|]

Back to the topic, the sigs I really like are the Lakota proverb one.  I like that one more each time I see it.  I also like badrap's sig.  I like the ones that show people's dogs/pets.  As long as the pics aren't too big.

Ok so I killed my other sig. Hope this one is not tooo big.

Also, I agree that there should be a size limit.  I think it's a little, um, self-serving to say things like, "My dog looks bad in small pictures, so deal with it," to justify having a huge Sig picture.....

Having bigger pictures is not self-serving. If you put a picture of you dog on your sig what would you rather have a bad picture or the same picture thats looks much better????

I personally like everyone sig no matter how big or small. Quote or no quote.

The quote stays as I will only go so far.
