Whats the Most Extravagant Thing You Bought For your Dog?

i bought their dog beds at l.l. bean, and they were pretty expensive, but i had a gift certificate, so does that count?

they wear $40 collars, but expect NEVER to replace them... so.. hmmm

how about this:  the most expensive thing i give them is MY TIME[:)]

I fenced in my yard, with a lovely 6 foot wood privacy fence.  That is the most money I've spent in one chunk.  It was before I had a dog, even, but that is why I did it:  so I could get a dog and he'd have a yard to play in.

Of course he also has a zillion toys and treats and beds and food and supplements and vet care and boarding and doggie camping gear and collars and leashes and bowls and all of that day to day living stuff.

But really, I think the biggest extravagance I give to him is my time.  That is very valuable to me at this point in my life, and he gets a LOT of it.

Those collars are lovely. I was at that website the other day looking at collars, I didn't know it was a fellow iDogger! How do you make those printed collars? Are they nylon collars with fabric on them? If so, what kind of fabric? I'd like one, but I'm wondering it it's covered in fabric if the fabric wears away after a while...

The most expensive and extravagant thing we ever got Pofi is....................................................

    Tee hee! How very true!

A 60 acre farm with two ponds, seventy sheep, three ducks (used to be 40, oops), and a chicken (used to be nine, oops). They have to share it with the kids and hubby, but there's plenty of farm to go around. [:D]

I rarely buy a dog bed, and if I do, it's cheap. I have two $7 kitty beds, from Big Lots, that they LOVE. I have one $14 on sale bed from Petsmart that's been restuffed about a zillion times. I have a lot of fleece blankets. Such is life with an incontinent dog.

I like collars, but I typically don't spend a whole lot on a single collar. I've spent $35 or so on a collar and lead set.

I think my best expensive purchase was a $17 toy from Helping Udders. Emma LOVES that silly thing, more than any other toy. We play with it every day.

i mentioned the behaviorist b/c i think most people outside of a group like this would call it "extravagant" to take my dog to a PhD psychologist.  [;)]

I find it interesting the different 'definitions' of extravagant that we all have.  Some of that is by necessity.  Some of it is by personality.  Between a super chem blood panel, thyroid panel (to MS), urinalysis culture& sensitivity, and enough cyclosporine for the next month yesterday's vet visit was almost $800.  THAT was just a "check up" for Billy (the IMHA dog) and Kee (and Ms. Luna who is a "cheap date" and only has to have her nails clipped).

I don't pay $40 for my own shoes much less a dog collar -- I'd probably choke if I tried.  But my soul would scream "what if I NEED that money to pay a vet bill??

That's not to shove anything in anyone's face ... it's just interesting to me how differently we all live and what's important to each of us.

And yeah, Jenn -- you're right.  Most people WOULD consider it 'extravagant' to go to a degreed behaviorist -- but it's what you perceive you need to do.  And my bet is you probably make considerable sacrifice to do that.

A lot of people in my shoes would never have put the money into Billy's IMHA that we have (and would consider it money foolishly spent) but the only way I *can* justify it is to be super frugal in other ways and know I've done the best we could.  If you asked my mother she calls me 10 kinds of fool to my face (and she still tells me to "put that one to sleep and get a healthy new one!').

But that IS one of the best things about the internet -- it gives each of us an appreciation (if we let it) for how the other guy lives and just why he makes the decisions he does.

Ooooh, *note to self, go to Big Lots at earliest convenience*. [:D]

I just want to say that I spend what I do on Ella's collars because I've tried petco collars and she breaks right out of them.
I even got a collar from earthdog.com and she backed right out of it.
I buy her collars made specifically for bully breeds. I have to. I have a VERY strong, determined girl.

And I mention what I spent on her vet care because for half the skin issues I've brought her to the vet for, outside of the dog lovers here, most would not have even bothered taking her in for.

And the trainer/behaviorist, oh yes, my dog NEEDS that. Well, not absolutely needs it, but if I want her to be a therapy dog one day, she does.

And see -- that's exactly my point.  Billy wouldn't pull to break a collar -- oh my noooooo - you've gotta HAVE your collar to get to Dr. B's (his favorite place on the planet) -- different needs, different personality, different "stuff" --

btw, off topic but I just bought a ton of leashes off this guy:
[linkhttp://www.ryansproducts.com]http://www.ryansproducts.com[/link] (edited to make the link work) --- they are the adjustable handle leads like I love, and he makes them himself.  Most of his stuff is horse stuff, but he was awesome to deal with.  My only 'ebay' purchase of my life, to be honest but I'm thrilled with them.  NOT bully breed tough tho, but very similar to what I paid $12 for at Petsmart and can't get any more (and these were like $4 each).  So I bought 9 leashes -- which will last Billy ... a while.  (he wouldn't break a collar but he'd chew a leash in a heartbeat!!)

    [linkhttp://store.ryansproducts.com/6bigdogrolew1.html]This is EXACTLY what I make![/link]
And will be selling at our local doggy day afternoon AND I donate to our local rescue for their bully breeds.

His are very INEXPENSIVE. I've been told by horse people to sell my leashes for $15-$20 AT LEAST.

    Those leashes will NEVER break.

I bought the dogs their own sheep.  We live in the suburbs so they live on a farm with my friend and her flock of 65.  They get weekly herding lessons too.

    I'm sorry, Billy!
But you're very handsome, if that's any consolation for accidentally letting your mom in on the secret!
