Whats the Most Extravagant Thing You Bought For your Dog?

I have spent quiet a bit on collars & leashes, but that is mainly due to the fact that I have so many.  I guess that the most extravagant thing that I will be doing for one of my dogs, is taking him with me on vacation this summer.  Bevo & I are both going to Belize & Costa Rica!

LOL...probably an all expense paid trip for one lucky gal to be attended to and pleased every two days by a handsome stud!

Hmmm -- I'm not one for 'stuff' either (I don't shop for ME either), but probably the most 'extravagant' thing -- well, I didn't consider it extravagant and that was Billy's 6 transfusions in one month last year and his 3 week stay at "Chez University of Florida" (Billy highly recommends the abiance and the excellent staff).  It was about a $7000 summer last summer (and I'm still spending not quite a housepayment on Atopica a month **but we're weaning off!!!!!  another drop this weekend!! RAH!!!!**).

David mutters because I'll order sweet potato (no cinnamon, no sugary butter) with my rib eye at Outback so I can take half of it home to use as a base for tomorrow's dogfood (by the time I add some more veggies to it).  But I *like* sweet potato (and I don't like the junk on it anyway).  I order the steak cos I want it -- but they'll benefit from the leftovers more than I will! (makes sense to me anyway)

aside from vet bills, the most money I've spent have been on things I consider investments - her training and her food.  Other than that, just the accumulation of dog beds, blankets, mountains of toys, the usual.

BUT - tomorrow is her birthday... you're inspiring me to do some spending...suggestions??

I buy my dogs Transfer Factor and one of them CAS Options. I spend money on gas to take them places.

I do buy chicken and make their jerky but wouldn't ever spend $30 on treats. They have had the same leather collars and leashes for years, and the same stainless steel dishes. Average cost of a toy is less than $2.00.

Well lets see getting Bogey (Standard Poodle-Black) groomed every 3 months, $75, 4xs a year, petsmart- ears and nails 6xs a year $16(a visit), $20 average spent while I wait for him to be done, Treats and toys proably $10-20 a month, food, vet, misc, catalog ordering, collars (I love Rhinestones!![:D]) sweater, jackets etc. oh and 1 really cool raised feeder/toy box (expensive but worth it!!)  I don't want to add it up- scary[8D]   I'm cheap when it comes to myself proably because there is no $ left.  It seem like everyone else who loves their dog----Dog Comes 1st!!!!!!!!!!

I try not to go overboard. I still can't get over spending $35 for an ortho. bed for my senior dog. I just keep thinking that I could have made one myself for much cheaper, but oh well. She likes it.

The only other thing that I really spend a lot on are bones and treats.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who equates spending money with love.  I'm cheap with myself too.

We DID buy an RV.  At that point we had Thor and Sheba and Misty the cocker was still with us.  Camping with two large dogs and a cocker is wayyyy different than camping with SIX large dogs.  So it sits in the yard.  Very expensive lawn ornament that hasn't sold and likely won't this year either, not with the price of gas at 3.29 and rising.....

One winter I bought April a fleece lined green coat, it cost about 40 dollars.  That same winter I bought myself a winter jacket on sale for ll.98.  What is wrong with this picture. [:D]

Just an FYI-If you are talking about the CET Hextra chews, my dogs love them and I have noticed a difference in Dixie's teeth...You can get them WAY cheaper through Amazon.com and other sites on the web.

Just last weekend, I spent around $160 on a behaviorist to work on Daisy's dog reactivity.  Other than that, our biggest expense is her meat for the raw diet.  But since I was taking her to the vet every couple weeks for itching and butt chewing before that, its well worth it.  Not to mention the fact that the tarter on her teeth is already gone, so no expensive dental care.

The only thing I would consider extragant are the two orthopedic beds that I bought for $55 each.   They're very strong, great quality.   I've had to replace the internals a couple of times (my prior dog had CCD and lost her bladder a couple f times) but I do that by buying the orthopedic pads for a full size bed at Target for less than $20 each.

Other than that the big expenses are for food and vet care.   I think thats where the love shows .... quality food and quality care .... its easy to make her happy (a little game of tug, running around in the grass, cuddling on the sofa) .... keeping her healthy will mean that she'll have more time (longevity) to BE happy [:)]

Just my [sm=2cents.gif] but I wouldn't consider things like vet care, flea control, orthopedic beds, obedience school, behaviorists, high quality food, etc. to be an extravagance.  Those are things the dog really needs.  For me, an extravagance would be something Max doesn't need, but I want for him  because I think it's neat. Does this sound like too much?  We are planning on buying a house so Willow can have a yard of her own.
