Maybe its time.....

Am beginning to wonder if I'm EVER gonna be a grandma.......Oldest son is 28, his fiance just went through a cancer thing so maybe by the time I'm 60......youngest son, well, he's almost 27 and not even dating right now!

*makes Glenda jealous of the beautiful babies* My best friend's mom is 41 and just got her second beautiful grandchild, on Tuesday. I've never in my life been so glad not to be blood related to those women!!! Hannah was supposed to be 6 1/2 to 7 pounds, and came out by cesearean after 30 hours of labor, weighing in at 8 pounds, 7 ounces. Her cousin, Annabelle, was a similar experience, and weighed 9 pounds, 13 ounces.

Well, I got a new great nephew in January......that sorta counts I guess.  Except I've not seen him yet......

We're talking about fostering humans again, so if the house we're thinking of...on 300 acres....works out.......maybe I'll have some babies around again.

    Yikes Trish!!  What a picture!!

One of Todd's favorite things to wrap in foil and toss on the grill is an ONION.....that might turn them off to foil!

Grilled onions are EXCELLENT.  Core out the top, pack it with butter and a bullion cube.  MMMMMMM.  Better than sex.

Can I say that here?  [;)]

Hey people, these forums and chats are like real life, there are nice and their are nasty, at 74 I've learned to roll with the punches.  There are people I like and people I don't like just like when you are talking face to face with someone.
    • Gold Top Dog
Thank you to ALL of the people who have offered HELPFUL advice and shared their experiences.  It shouldn't matter how old anyone is, experience is experience.  I have learned so much on this forum - this is my very first dog and I feel so much more confident knowing that I have all these people who can offer assistance in providing a safe, healthy and happy home for my puppy.

The administrators/mediators for this site should really do a more thorough job in eliminating those members who are being disrespectful and rude.  I noticed there is a "Report" link, does that mean we can report people who are making hostile comments?

I think the mix of people on a forum is just like the rest of society.  Any group of people, whether it's a social group, a group of hobbyists, a neighborhood, an office, a chat room, whatever -- they have good and bad in them, those who are always good-intentioned and helpful, as well as those who seem to contribute only negative vibes, whether it's with malicious intent or not.  I guess the trick is to try to avoid those that cause upset of some kind, and to seek out those who add something positive to your experience, whether it's on-line or in person.

I'm fairly new here.  I've read some pretty nasty comments on this board, but overall I think the posts are helpful and supportive.  Unfortunately, the nasty things get more attention (kind of like the bad kid in the classroom who seems to monopolize the teacher's time, while the well-behaved kids quietly go about their business).  I think everyone has something to offer, regardless of age.  It comes down to experience with a particular issue -- and that can come at any age, depending on the number of dogs one has had, what health issues they've had, etc.  I don't care how old someone is when they advise me - I just appreciate the shared knowledge and a kind tone if I require more education than someone else.

Glenda, I think you're a valuable contributor, as are so many others here.  I choose to focus on all of you, not on the few bad apples in the bunch!

I believe that courtesy is for everyone.  It costs nothing to be courteous and people will be nicer to you as a result!  Believe me, you do NOT want me mad at you (just ask DH and DSs!), so everybody needs to play nice!  We can all have different opinions and respect that other's opinions can and will be different than our own.  This doesn't necessarily mean they are wrong, just DIFFERENT. FWIW, I am one of the old farts here (my old computer did a crash and burn and my old name went with it). I have been posting since 2000.

Gosh,  I posted here yesterday in answer to the comment about the moderators and it isn't here.

Jaime does an awesome job, but there is only one of her and she's got a zillion other duties at dog.com.  We are supposedly a group of adults and we really should ACT like adults.  Jaime shouldn't NEED to keep coming into threads and scolding us like a group of naughty pre-schoolers.  Many folks yearn for the "good old days" and Jim.  Well Jim was a heck of a good guy but folks seem to forget that he could be gone for DAYS....he had to work a real job to support idog.  That's not a put down of Jim.  That's a real fact of life.  Jim had to have a life other than work and idog...which is likely why he finally sold the forum.

When folks like Sandra, who has years of doggie experience get flogged for what they feed and called TOO OLD TO CHANGE, when folks like Dyan get flogged because she feeds a formula that uses CORN (gasp!!), when people get told to BUTT OUT, that ticks me off.  That said, it appears that the problems areas have been addressed and we for now don't have idoggers who think if everything isn't there way, the people don't love their dogs enough.

I for example, have too many dogs.  Tell me something I DON'T know.  No sane human being starts out PLANNING to get SIX german shepherds!  But, I feel a responsibility for these little lives that I help to save and MY overcrowded home is a far sight better than an outside kennel and a life on Pedigree and nothing else.  If I walked my dogs like some folks walk theres, I'd never do anything but walk.  I'm already down from a size 18 to a size 6!  And I have a couple who are ALWAYS upstairs and that makes the others jealous....but, I have Sheba who'll hop the fence from a standstill to be with me and Tyler who is afraid of the others, and bringing a couple upstairs at a time is a careful balancing act so that we don't have problems.  So I do that and I split my time between upstairs and downstairs so no one is neglected.

I could rage for hours about some of the stuff that's been said, but what's the point?  The bottom line is that one should NOT judge others until they have walked a mile or so in the others shoes.  Hopefully this thread will help everyone to remember that.

hehehehe..you have too many and I just added 7 more! Of course 3 will be going to Honey's co-owner [;)]

For those of you who are new and see the "conflict" I offer an opportunity for those who are offending to change their ways, being that my previous position before Dog.com was HR and prior to that a manager of several Depts. in a big box company, I am a firm believer that you can't change whats wrong if you don't know it, so it's a 3 strikes your out rule, 3 warnings and your suspended, two suspensions and the third one your gone. Members have the opportunity to change their posting style if they want to stay on the forum, offensivness is not tolerated, it is just recorded until it's time to say "Good bye"

Yep, I KNOW I have too many.....but at least they are loved and well cared for, and by golly they EAT what they are given!! [:D]

No sane person starts out planning to get this many dogs....I'm just too much of a softie!

We want PICTURES of those babies!!

    Bundled britches! Woo hoo!

I've seen it before. Amongst friends of my friends. Usually, the worst of the offenders are younger than 35 and think they know everything and are hades-bent on showing everyone just how much they know and how superior their knowledge is. One person I know helped her father re-wire part of a house when she was a teenager. So, that put her on par with me, a master electrician with a couple of decades of experience. I once had a helper who had been with us for two days and that was the beginning of his electrical experience and he was going to tell my how I did the branch circuit piping in a section of the building a month previous and then he wanted to know when he could have a helper and be in charge of something.

Some of it is just the new wave. The young'uns haven't paid dues and don't want to pay dues. Instant gratification without learning the skills and working your way up the hard way.

When I was young, I had less patience with people and I knew more than I know now.

But my friend, Lee, had a good saying. He's the one who gave me the fudge recipe. "Age and treachery win over youth and skill."

Or as the lady says in "Fried Green Tomatos" , "I'm older and I have more insurance." Excellent movie. I know it's a "chick" movie but that doesn't stop it from being excellent. "I swear, that is the best barbecue I've ever tasted." "The secret's in the sauce."

And you are still a doggy angel, if a bit disenchanted.

Well as one of the young farts...hehe...I have to tell you all that your knowledge and compassion means to me.  Some people just can't handle a difference of opinion and thats sad.  Now I don't always agree with "everything" everyone says, but this is a FORUM.  Its social.  Why else would you be here?

Thanks again to all of you who have thought enough to share with the rest of us.
