Some people don't have a clue about dog breeds

The only one I've ever had was at the retirement residence... Tux and I were visiting and one lady asked me: "Do you race him often?"  I said "Pardon?"  She said "Your greyhound, do you race him often?"  I just replied no - it was easier than explaining....

(Tux is my avatar ... very greyhound-ish...)

I get a lot of people that ask when he's going to attack me though ... apparently everyone knows the urban legend about Dobermans' brains swelling larger than their skulls and when that happens they attack their owners.... *sigh*

I'm 6'6" and Shadow is 26 " to the shoulder points.

The chair to my left is a normal steel frame chair you would find around a swimming pool. It was inherited from a friend who had appropriated it from a swimming pool.

Ron, I was trying to attach a photo to show the size of Sunny. She is bigger than she looks. I am a computer fool, though, so I am putting in our dogster link--if you scroll down you can see a shot of her on the bed with my fiance who is 6'2'' and 250 lbs.

Sunny is bigger than she looks in your sig photo, but I think that's because she's got a pretty, dainty featured face, and maybe the angle of the shot!  In the dogster pic you pointed us to, she appears to be more the size I would expect of a Maremma!  She's really quite lovely!

I'm guessing Shadow and Pofi are relatively close in size based on the standing with a tall guy shots!  Pofi is about 75 lbs and 27" high at the withers.

People don't believe sometimes that Millie is a doberman because her ears aren't cropped. And Max, he gets lots of breeds, but the best one most recently was Rhodesian Razorback. I wasn't even aware that breed existed.

I had no idea Pofi was that big. I always thought from your avatar pic that he'd be about 40 lbs. Sure is a cute chihuahua!

he he I love it when people actually say that Jetta is a bichon and NOT a poodle. But, even the ones who know her breed pronounce it wrong. They say, "look at that Bee john freeze!!!

    This is a good one:

We have a long-haired chihuahua mix. His colors are black, tan and white. I can't tell you how many people have guessed that the "mix" part of him is.......Bernese Mountain Dog!!! LOL!

    All I can say is................OUCH!

At this dogster link, you can find my "purebreed dachsund."  This was told to me by a man once. He asked if he could breed him to his female doxie LOL.

I said he's a minpin (and an oversized one at that!) lol  He argued with me and said whoever sold him to me pulled a fast one LOL  Okkkk...

    Oy.

My bichons I get a lot of "look at the poodles" as well.

I don't even know for sure what Joey is.  But I really get irritated when people call him a schnoodle.  I answer with, "I don't know.  He's just a well loved mutt."

I also hate it when people ask me where I bought him from.  Even if I knew where he came from originally, I wouldn't tell an idiot that would buy a mixed breed/designer breed.  Even though I didn't get him from a shelter, but rescued him, I always tell people that I adopted him from a shelter.

My mom used to tell people, he was an ewok (from Starwars) and Toto mix.  For some reason my mom thought that was hilarious, but now that he's my dog and I get asked the "what breed is he?" question all the time, I'm thinking about using ewok/toto mix too.

I was at the shelter once and there was a male Australian Shepherd, but he was listed as a Cattle Dog. I went to the front and told them of the mistake and they insisted he was a cattle dog. I didn't want to argue with them, but I felt it was very clear that the dog was an Aussie Shep, NOT a cattle dog. I mean, the dog even had one blue eye. It looked pure bred, it really did. They wouldn't listen to me so I went back later that day with a picture and description of Aussie Sheps and I also had my cattle dog with me. I showed them again and explained that I wasn't trying to be rude or difficult, but if someone was going to adopt that dog they should know as much as possible about the dog's breed and this dog was CLEARLY not a cattle dog of any kind. Finally, she goes and gets the shelter director and he took one look at the dog and said it was an Aussie Shep.

    Lisa,
This is the best pics I could find to give you an idea of Joey's size.  My Ex is about 5'8 but broad shouldered.
