Some people don't have a clue about dog breeds

Forgot another one for Blue. When we adopted him he was listed as a corgi mix due to his large ears.

Cant you see the corgi him.[sm=rofl.gif]

People have said to me (about Bogey, the dog on the right), "Wow he's a big dog.  What is he?  A German Shepherd mix?"

You know, I'm no breed expert, but he doesn't look like any German Shepherd I've ever seen.  He's a Rott/Lab, by the way.

April has been taken for a Maltese, Shitz Zu (spelling), Llhaso Apso (spelling) and once after she was groomed a lady at the pet store what a cute poodle, now that was just too much for me! lol  Actually she is a designer dog, a Peke-e-Tese, I didn't even know that until I saw it on the internet. lol[;)][:D][:)]

I will admitt that while I can identify all but the most rare breeds of large medium dogs, I really don't know much about the smaller, fuzzier dogs.  I usually just ask the owner if I want to know though, rather than guess.

I love this thread!! Roscoe gets dalmation all the time, and I've had more than one person tell me that he must be a rottweiler mix because of his tan eyebrows. [&:]

Bella has been identified as a bluetick coonhound and a borzoi at different times.

First picture is Roscoe the Rottie-mix. [8D]Second is Bella the bluetick coonhound; the ears really give her away dontcha think? [8|]

Bella is definitely Borzoi!  Can't you see it, Jen?

I love Roscoe even if he is a Rottie mix!

Blue is so cute - that face, those eyes!

And Joey is definitely another one of the new miniatures, a mini Great Dane.  Maybe you should tell people he's a Small-Boned version.

That is funny!! When I had Reese, my liver and white Dal, people would come up and tell me that they loved my German Shorthair Pointer!

And I thought all Dal's were a give-in to even the least dog savy people!! [8|]

Here is Reese (hmm, doesn't look like a GSP to me) :

No, he doesn't.  He's handsome and obviously very intent on the task at hand.[:)]

Most of us that have shelter dogs will never be really sure exactly what our dogs are.  We can sort of guess one or two things - like I'm pretty sure Max has shepherd and lab (or maybe shepherd and golden) but unless I'm going to believe that someone actually let a purebred GSD and a purebred lab (or golden) get together, I have to think there a few other things in there as well. [:)] Whatever they are, he's a keeper.

I usually get asked what my smooth collies are mixed with.  "I can see Collie in there, but what else?"  I tell them 'Collie'. Yes, they're Collie x Collie crosses!

My favorite was the young cashier at PetSmart that informed me that Smidgen was a pit bull because of her long nose?  Wha?  Yep.  (BTW - that's her in my avitar.  Do you see the pit bull in her?)

He looks exactly like a Corgi! You posted something about that in another thread this week, so I was going to ask you for pictures of Blue as a puppy. He is absolutely adorable!!

I'll have to search around for the Blue book. I don't have that many pictures of him as a puppy due to the fact we didn't have a camera that much.  Also some got lost due to my brother moving back in.

But I will post puppy pictures of Blue soon.[:D]

You could have really  had your way with them by answering in an australian accent.

I think that shade of brindle makes me think of greyhound.

Course, I don't KNOW what Pofi is - he's a foundling and therefore a complete mystery. My made up moniker of "Great Lakes Counter Surfer" is descriptive in it's own way and I have my theories...

Most outrageous?  Chihuaha. Contain your laughter - my co-worker was looking at a photo and, possibly, there was not really a background object to give any sense of scale or proportion.  Still.  I did GIGGLE!!

I do find it tough to sense the relative size of some of the doggies here - particularly the mixes.  There's a lot of dogs I think might be close in size to Pofi that end up being much smaller - like Jumpin' Joey!  I did think he was a bit larger.

We should pick a ubiquitous object that would be relatively the same size in anyone's home (say a dining room or kitchen table chair...) and try to take pix of our dogs near them for scale and do a thread on that for comparision!

Most common guess at Pofi's breed - GSD.  Also frequent - Dingo!  Lot's of questions about whether I had a dingo - particularly from about 5 months of age to 10 or 11 months.  And Doberman - that one comes up a lot!  Husky - we did think maybe Husky when he was a wee pup.

I have a neighbor who always tells me she thinks he's part Saluki!  She owned one in the past and she just thinks the way he carries himself and his profile....

I think she's seeing sighthound. I'm convinced there is some sighthound in him - he was tearing up the beach with a Whippet last night and everyone was commenting on how similar their bodies moved while running.

I could have SWORN he was a Kelpie mix and I have had people who know the breed say they think so too............but he'd be the biggest Kelpie around!!

Here's a bad pic I took trying to show Pofi's height - standing with DH - DH is 6'3".  My little Chihuahua!!
