Some people don't have a clue about dog breeds

Well I have 1. wolves 2. huskies 3. GSDs and the newest one.....my boys are cattle dogs! [&:] Nice curly tails on those cattle dogs!

I get pretty defensive when people incorrectly label my dogs. I'm proud of my Norwegian Elkhounds. If you don't know what they are, don't shout guesses at me, just ask! I'll happily tell you all about them.

Well it's not as far off as some of the guesses above, but I've had people tell me that Maggie is an Australian Shepherd.  When I correct them and say she's a cattle dog/border collie cross they insist that, no, she's really an Aussie - since when have you seen a medium coated, ticked Aussie??

lmao... Wow I guess there really are a lot of stupid people out there[:D]
Yeah some people have asked if Bailey was a Dingo a couple times a while ago... It was hard not to just burst out laughing[&:]

I have this conversation almost daily with random people:

Person: What kind of dog is that?
    Me: It's a dachshund.
Person: Oh {in a disapointed tone}, I thought it was a weiner dog.

I had Buddy for a few days and brought him into PetSmart to pick up a few things.  The lady passing out samples was commenting on how cute the puppy was, blah, blah and then asked if he was a pit bull.  Ah, nope.

He is a boston terrier/corgi mix that looks more like the corgi in the body and the boston in the face.

I always assume that people don't know what kind of dog Winston is, so when a man walked up to me and said "Is that a Havanese?" I almost forgot how to speak.  We keep him in a puppy cut so he doesn't have the traditional long wavy silk hair, but usually people just say "What kind of dog is that?"

I saw the cutest mix the other day.  Corgi/JRT.  JRT head and face, coloring and body length of a corgi.  I asked if that's what he was and she said "you nailed it right on the head".  Guess I'm getting pretty good at guessing dogs.  :)

When I told a guy at the dog park that I thought Max was a GSD/lab mix, he insisted that he was a purebred Belgian Malinois - he absolutely knew this because his friend's girlfriend is a breeder and he could tell.  Ummm. OK.  If you say so.

Fuzzy dogs mom, there's a belgian malinois in my agility class.  She looks nothing like max.  Well except for body color.  Her face is all black, she has no stop and long fur on her hind legs.  (not aussie length but longer than a pit)

People are always asking if Ruby is a Border Collie.  Much as I love them, I could never keep up with a BC (Ruby gives me a run for my money as it is).  I guess they don't notice that SHE HAS NO TAIL!  So many people think that Aussies only come in 2 colors - blue merle and tri-color.  Her dam is a Red solid and her sire is a Blue Merle.  I feel fortunate to have gotten a Black solid.  She's special. One of the workmen in the house the other day guessed that Samwise was a 16 month old lab.  He's a 4 month old Golden who is currently growing into an adult coat.  He could not believe that he was that young, though.  Asked me if I was sure. LMAO

I don't mind it when they make weird guesses, but when you TELL them the correct breed, and they argue with you about it, that's just strange.

Who was it who posted they took their goat into petsmart and had people asking "what breed of dog is that?"

When I went in to the Humane Society to help my dad pick out his new dog (he knew he wanted a dog but doesn't know much about matching lifestyles) I picked out a great "Sheltie" (according to the HS) pup for him.  This is what he looks like (ish):

I think he's actually more of a Border Collie, Australian Shepherd mix.

Some one had once asked me if Cookie was a dalmation. No Ma'am, definitely not...[8|]

I have to be a little lenient, she was hanging out  outside a local bar...she might have been a bit intoxicated...

The biggest mistake I've heard about Buster was when we got Buster from the Animal Rescue League and they had him marked as a german shepherd / pittbull mix.   What???  He looks NOTHING like a german shepherd.  I now firmly believe that he has pittbull and greyhound in him, but absolutely no german shepherd.  Most of the guesses from the public are either pittbull or greyhound.

Sunny (pictured below) has been incoreectly identified as an albino golden retriever, an albino lab, a white golden, a white lab and a pyrenees and a kuvasz. The last 2 I don't mind because her breed is closely related to a pyr and a kuvasz. What I hate is when people argue with me that there is no such thing as a maremma sheepdog. They should not ask if they are going to doubt the answer. It is annoying but funny.
