A dog beyong your means...or dreams?

I actually don't yearn for any particular breed. But, my dream would be to win the lotto and be able to build a rescue facility that is state of the art with heated/cooled kennels, individual runs and the ability to have paid and volunteer staff so that EVERY animal who needs a second chance, who's owners have a baby/move/don't have time, etc, has a loving place to live out their life if a loving forever home can't be found. So that the old guys who's people are tired of waiting for them to die, can have a warm bed and a loving, gentle hand. I'd like to put the local stray centers out of buisness, and be able to put a few select dogs in a few select GOOD HS's, like the one I work with, where they ALWAYS find excellent homes for dogs.........that's my dream dog. Whichever one needs a loving home.

If I hit first, I'll build two, one for me and one for you!

I'm lucky - I just got the breed of my dreams - little speckled workin' dog...a red merle Australian Shepherd.

But, if I had a gazillion (and after I take care of Glenda and my shelters), I'd buy an old farm or ranch, fence it in and fill it with Aussies, BC's, Pyrenees, Collies, English Shepherds, Shetland Sheepdogs, a pack of Beagles, a Dobe, and a Dachshund.  Of course, my current pack would have first dibs on the beds.

Thanks Anne.  I'll do the same for you.  Let's hope ONE of us wins soon!

Okay, I'll play... I have always wanted an Irish Wolfhound.  They are so regal looking and from what I've read they are very affectionate and amazingly intelligent dogs.  I'd also really love to own an Irish Setter some day.  My Aunt had 3 and they were wonderful companions to her.  My husband would like his childhood favorite, a Boston Terrier and after meeting a 4-month old at the dog park the other day, I'm leaning this way, too.  So many dogs, such a little house! Aussies really are my favorite, though, so Ruby's a good fit for us.  Samwise, my Golden, seems to be the epitomy of the Golden personality - he's a big, laid back, sweet, goofy, gentle boy.

Oh I want in on Glenda's and Spiritdogs ticket.

Ditto on that.  Except I've always imagined some sort of reitrement home for dogs.  I want a kennel/home sort of thing for old dogs.  I hate seeing dogs looking for homes, but especially the old guys and gals.  That and the dogs that belong to older humans who die or have to go into a nursing home and can't take their dogs.  Of course nobody in the family can possibly take the dog.  [sm=angry.gif]

I want a Great Dane.    There's a Great Dane rescue in Ontario that posts on PetFinder and I look at their listings all the time and have completely fallen in love with a 1 year old brindle.   But I live in a one bedroom apartment with a cat and dog and a husband who is not at all ready to get another dog for a while.   We'll do it one day, but probably not for a few years.    Also, my mom will never, ever want to visit me against if I have a Great Dane because she is very scared of them.   For right now I just stare longingly at the Great Danes that live around me.

To the one who wants a shiba but is afraid about the cats, as long as the cats can get away they will be fine, unless you get a shiba that has already attacked a cat they will usually be fine.  Neither of mine were raised with cats, if you say kitty kitty they look for ferrets, LOL.  But we moved in with my DH's cat and they get along fine and will sleep all together, then cat never lived with dogs either.

I have also never met a protective shia, I have met a couple of aggresive shibas, but no true protective ones.  Ours hardly ever bark even.  I doubt of any would stop someone from hurting you or stealing your crap.  And almost every shiba I have met are totally food driven, throw a steak on the ground and thye are yours.  All but my male and you can't find a more omega dog in the world.

Now to the topic at hand, my ultimate dream dog is an Irish Wolfhound, I ahve wanted one for as long as I can remember, I think I seen a pic of one on Jeopardy once and was hooked from then on, LOL, soemday.

Right now I am looking at one of 2 breeds for my next dog either a Bouvier Des Flanders or an Afghan Hound, love them both for very different reasons.

I have always wanted an australian sheep dog! They are sooooo PRETTY!!!! I also want another wolf dog, I have made my hubby promise me one when Sasha is 8 but no older than 10 years old. I even have a name already! Natalie!!!! I like the  Russian pronunciation of the name.

I want a Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.  That will be my one purebred purchase for sure.  Other than that, border collies from rescue or mutts.  I fell in love with the breed this past winter and wish that I could have done better by Maggie.  RIP.

Glenda's vision is a lovely one.  While I love for purely aesthetic reasons the breeds I mention, all my pets are rescues and that's the way it will stay.  And if I could actually discipline myself to BUY lottery tickets (like those Wisconsin cheese factory workers -woo hoo for them) and THEN actually won, there's little doubt animals would be the chief benificiaries of my newly ENRICHED philantropic lifestyle!  I'd endow a sort of Best Friends North...

Another vote for Glenda's idea. That sounds wonderful.

I would have to say my dream breed is JRT. I never thought of myself as a small dog person and I loved my Dal dearly and love our lab, but something about those little JRT that I just love. They have great personalities and always make me smile. I would love to have a slew of them running around our house. Unfortunatly I think the cats would go on strike if that happened. [;)]

BTW - I think kennel_keeper has the coolest job EVER!! Wish I could do something like that! [:)]

A dive into the flights of fantasy...

    1) Akita Inu or Basenji because I love new experiences and they sound like a real different dog owning experience.
    2) Dobes are beautiful and sleek and so gentle.
    3) GSD, I especially love those white ones breeders want to kill all the time.
    4) Swedish Vallhund. My mother has one and he is just the sweetest little dear. I have a real soft spot for him and his pixie ears. His breeder is a lovely lady and I'd have one of her vallhunds in a second.
    5) Norwegian Lundehund. Who doesn't want a dog with 6 toes and a spine so flexible it can touch its back with the top of its head??

hmm I want a Great Dane..one that looks like Dyan's Bubblegum..he is such a beauty....Oh well I can dream.. My other favorite breed I have my GSD

Ever since I was a kid and laid eyes on Spuds McKenzie, I've always wanted a Bull Terrier.  Unfortunately DH thinks they're the ugliest dog on the face of the earth, so I probably won't ever have a Bull Terrier (while married to him).

I also would love to have a Newfie, but I think the breed would probably do best in a cooler climate.
