A dog beyong your means...or dreams?

I have quite a few drream dogs. I want a doberman, and I have already told my parents that if I move out on my own I am getting one pronto. They are so elegant looking dogs and I've been told they have great personalities.
I also want an austrailian sheperd. We had one in our neighborhood for a while, he was sweet once you got to know him.
I also want a pom, a great dane, a husky or malamute, a golden, a lab, and a weim.
I just need to live on a lot of land and have a pack, along with my six children I'm going to adopt and a few horses. I'd be in heaven. lol

I thought of another one--an Afghan hound! We saw an afghan puppy at dog class last week and it was precious. The adults are beautiful, too!

As a small child I was infatuated with Siberian Huskys and Boxers. I never got a chance to interact with one but my neighbors down the street has a Husky. And a very good friend of mine had a Boxer. Also an Amstaff and Bulldogs. These are some of my 'dream dogs'. The last two are possible for me but my mom seems to be really afraid of the amstaff and pitbull, and the drool from the bulldog would probably not be in her interest.

    A retired racing greyhound.

This will be my next dog, even if it is a few years off.  I have all the pets I can afford and have time for right now (3 dogs, 2 rabbits, and 2 birds).  I have recently been doing a lot of research about them and have joined a greyhound forum.  I'm learning A LOT about them and I am so excited about getting one.  Before I do I will need to do some serious work in the yard, including fencing in a much larger portion of it with a higher fence.  So all I can do now is dream about when I will have that beautiful greyhound. I'm waiting on my dream dog, a bearded collie! So close yet so far away.

Living on your own doesn't always mean having the dog you want. Sometimes it's hard to get the dog you want when you start off living in an apartment or in an area that doen't always like certain breeds of dogs. Also if you rent there are restrictions on dogs you can and can not own or if you can even own a dog at all. And then there are the other people who you might live with, room mates, boyfriend/girlfriend, kids... all these people will also have an influence on what dog you end up with. And of corse there is always the money issue... I always thought when I have a home of my own... nope doesn't quite work out that way.

I feel very fortunate as I am actually on my 4th dream dog. . .the greyhound! [sm=dance.gif]

I am also completely with Xerxes and Glenda. Like Xerxes I adore the sighthounds (all of them) and like Glenda I have dreamed for years of winning the lottery so that I can move into a bigger place and have 5 greys and also build the "dream facility"  for the greyhound rescue I volunteer with. I would give anything to help the people out who run this rescue out of their home and have to work long hours just to make ends meat for themselves and all the greys they care for.

That said, I also would like to throw a Dane into the greyhound pack!   [:D]

Well, my first love at age 10 were sighthounds but especially Borzoi. I was quite happy when my parents finally gave in when I was 12 and bought a pair of male English Springer Spaniel puppies though. After 16 years with  ESS, they will always have a special place in my heart but I still long for a sighthound. What I've dreamed of is a breed which resembles Borzoi, but is closer to the size of a Springer;  has the trainability of a Springer; but a managable prey drive to safely have with active indoor kitties.
In 2004 I "discovered" what seems to be the answer to my dream dog, the Silken Windhound. After two years of researching the breed and meeting dogs, owners & breeders I'm hoping to get a Silken Windhound puppy by the end of this year[:)]

    I've always wanted a Rottweiler...well I have a Rotti X, maybe I'll get a purebreed later on..

A Great Dane is on my list too, maybe when we're done with renting and buy a house.

ALSO, a GSD. Family friends have always had them, and I fell in love at a young age.

Now that I've been thinking about it some more, I need--

       A white German Shepherd
       An all black German Shepherd
A sable or black and tan German Shepherd
A Golden Retreiver (maybe crossed with yellow Lab, if I come across one)
A black Lab, but I think I'd prefer one crossed with GSD( like I've got now) or Golden Retriever, like I said before. One black and one golden yellow [:D]

I might not have all of these dogs at once though [;)]

When I was a little kid, my dream was to have a whole bunch of dogs ( Labs and Goldens specifically) and to breed them so that I could have puppies all of the time [8|] Shhh....don't tell anyone! But now that I've thought about it more, I don't need to breed dogs, just get the ones I like, and work doing some kind of job with dogs. I'd like to be a dog trainer of some sort. Oh, and I wanted to live on a farm and  breed horses as well. Now I plan to have a horse ( at least one, I have one now) but  that's about it.

My dream breed is the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, always has been and always will be. Besides them, I'd love to have:

    - Belgian Shepherd (Groenendael (black, obviously) or Teruvren (grey)...or both)
    - Hungarian Mudi
    - Collie (preferably a sable smooth, but I love roughs too aswell as all of teh coat colours)

I have my dream dog and will continue to only own this breed......Bernese Mountain Dogs....

    here's another.....

    • Gold Top Dog
    A  long haired German Shepherd

    A Saint Bernard

    A basset hound

    An Irish Setter

But I will always have an English Bulldog
    • Gold Top Dog
I've changed my mind so many times I've just concluded that I like dogs just sort of in general! Mainly big ones.

Our first dog we got just cuz he was pretty and seemed to have a nice temperment. He was an akita x GSD, so after he died, we went looking for another GSD or mix thinking that would be our dream dog. We got Conrad who as it turns out is a bloodhound mix, not GSD (as the pound thought he was) and then I researched bloodhounds a ton and that was my dream dog. I was lobbying for a visit to the local bloodhound rescue (there's actually a vet 'round these parts who specializes in bloodhounds and runs a rescue) when in to my life marched Marlowe, the black and tan coonhound, and now coonhounds are totally my favored dog. I do seem to be favoring the large scent hounds, so I'll probably continue down that road for a while, but who knows what serendipitous dog will cross my path next and make me fall in love with it. [:)]

But I continue to have a fascination with the giant breeds. Danes, mastiffs of various kinds, wolfhounds.... When I see them at the park I just swoon. There's a dogue de bordeaux in our obedience class and I just can't keep my eyes off this dog!
