Well, it looks like this is my goodbye thread.

Any guitar is fine as long as it`s a Martin. Dude do I look like I would play a recorder or flute?

Nothing wrong with playing the flute. Ian Anderson does. When he was questioned why he took up the flute he told how he started out playing guitar. Then he heard Eric Clapton play and decided to give it up. What other instrument could he play that impressed the young ladies? The flute. And there you have the start of the most unlikely instrument to be used in a rock fashion.

I wanted to add that, before he started singing for AC/DC, Bon Scott was in a woodwind quartet playing the recorder.

This is true, and all those are great musicians. I`m  more of a Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Bros. John Fogerty type of guy. Gotta remember I`m kinda old. Traffic, Cream, etc.

I like them, too. How about "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown"? Or Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen?

Molly Hatchet, .38 Special. The Who was my favorite band for the longest time. And the Guess Who. Uriah Heep. Deep Purple with Ian Gillan. Not many people know that they had a singer before him, David Coverdale. Another favorite is Steppenwolf. I saw them a few years ago. The only original members left are John Kay and the keyboard player. The rest of the band wasn't even born when "Born to be Wild" came out.

A saying that my friend Lee would use is a latin phrase, "illegitimus non carborundi."

I think you mean "illegitimus non carborundum" (Don't let the bastards wear you down) which is a very applicable here.

However, it is a pseudo-Latin joke, not real Latin.

I'd rather have a Taylor, or even a Seagull.

But I live near Nazareth. Pa home of Martin.
    The Weight by The Band

    I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.

When Robbie Robertson was writing that in the 60`s he looked in the sound hole in his guitar and saw Martin made in Nazareth, Pa and used the town in that song.

A local station was doing a tribute to them, with interviews and such.

I don't have an expensive guitars. Mine are copies. A Memphis Les Paul. A Hondo Flying V, my favorite. And a cheapie acoustic I bought at a flea market.
But I do have a Roland GS-6 digital effects rack unit that brains my Fender 85 amp, which puts 200 watts.

As always, secure in your manhood. [;)

The pup is already born and now it needs a home.

For all the lurkers, this is exactly what puppy millers and byb's count on - that you will feel for the pup and "rescue" it.  Unfortunately, every time someone does this, the pup mills get money to fuel their operations, and more dogs remain in substandard conditions, or are born with genetic defects.  Those defects can lead to extraordinarily high vet bills over the life of the dog, such that some owners must euthanize for lack of funds to care for the issue, which may require expensive treatment or surgery.  We are not in the business of simply making people feel badly - we want them to enjoy the company of their dog, illness and disease free, for a long lifespan.  This isn't about being critical, it's to educate.  Anyone who hangs out on this forum for any length of time will, hopefully, be exposed to the reasons why it is so necessary to spread the word.  The Internet has made it possible for us to do that, but it has also made it possible for puppy mills to put up cool sites that make them look more responsible than they are.  It's still necessary to look for titles, working ability, evidence of genetic testing, etc.  I think everyone should just cowboy up, stay here, take their knocks, or dish - but continue to learn!

That's what I did. When I got Shadow, I knew nothing about ethical breeding, the whole 9 yards. And rather than try to defend his breeding or origin, or the notion of having him breed, I learned from others, or a statement would cause me to read something elsewhere or look it up. The same with training. It starts with the notion that I don't know everything and some things are worth trying or investigating if for nothing else than pure curiosity. Just the same, the only way I would get another dog is either from a breeder that follows the ethics we appreciate, or from rescue or a shelter. Which doesn't mean I am indirectly supporting mills and byb's. It means I would be rescuing an animal from certain death.

But I think I'm at my limit with a dog and a cat, who get along well. Plus, my fuel pump just went out, so I have to take the day off and spend a chunk of money.

I don't corner the market on rescue, but, I have certainly done my share and I have to agree with this statement.
Pure bred dogs have come through my kennels as rescues, but, the insanity keeps on going[8|]

2 of mine I know came from bybs (different ppl), 1 I suspect came from a puppymill, the 4th I have no idea about          I still think of all of them as rescue/rehomes - I know/knew the bybs and attempted to talk-them-out-of breeding their dogs (to no avail [&o]) -the dogs I have from them were because they ending up with "left-over" dogs & I accepted 1 from each to care for.  I know the history of @ least 1 parent for both these dogs, I saw health certs. for all parents, & in the last one's case (thanks to learning from ppl like you all here)  I know the g-parents history too & more.
These furbabies are in their forever home - barring any tragedy.  I have a vet that also works rescues and will help me find funds or accept a payment plan should I fall to hard times.  I have learned some home care that works & he approves.  I will hold each as they draw their last breath should that be chance be given to me.
I do not think that supporting ;puppymills or byb is the way to get a baby but I will not close my heart to the love 1 of these can give should I find my heart & soul drawn to a certain baby.
