Well, it looks like this is my goodbye thread.

This isn't about being critical, it's to educate.  Anyone who hangs out on this forum for any length of time will, hopefully, be exposed to the reasons why it is so necessary to spread the word.  The Internet has made it possible for us to do that, but it has also made it possible for puppy mills to put up cool sites that make them look more responsible than they are.  It's still necessary to look for titles, working ability, evidence of genetic testing, etc.  I think everyone should just cowboy up, stay here, take their knocks, or dish - but continue to learn!

Spiritdogs, now you are very smart in my eyes.  But we are just a drop in the bucket and one person can extend the message 100 fold with their voice.  I give you the floor again to tell us if BYB and puppymills were eliminated, what are the choices for JQP and will there be enough puppies to satisfy demand.  Maybe another thread in the dog section.

Sadly, I do not think that they will ever be totally eliminated.  Too many people are willing to satisfy the urge for instant gratification.  Few are willing to wait a year or even two for the right litter from a reputable breeder.  They want "Fluffy" NOW.  And, as you probably well know, many are not happy with the scrutiny they get from shelters or rescue groups - asking "Do you have a fenced yard?" or "Have you owned this breed before?" or "Could we see permission from your landlord?"  Designed to educate, these questions only serve to send many JQP's right to the pet store, or to the Internet where their Visa card can get them the dog they think they are entitled to, no questions asked.  And, I don't think that ignorant people will start spaying and neutering so fast, either.  I fear that we are not in any danger of not having enough dogs in this country to go around - after all, we euthanize thousands and thousands for lack of a home...
I'm not sure what the answer is, but I think education is a good start.
