You can just search on his user name and pull up all of his threads.  Unfortunately, many of his "moments" happened in the middle of someone elses thread.  He was a master de-railer as well (goes with needing to be the center of attention?).  Anyway, he would be thrilled to bits with this thread!  I feel like we're talking about someone who's passed.   I totally agree with Gina.  He offered no real contribution other than to stir up debate over Doodles. 

Terri, it is just a small token of my appreciation, to a fellow Patton fan,  that wouldn't be public knowledge at all had the darned PM thing worked.

I really feel that if you follow the rules, you will be allowed to play here, no matter who doesn't like you. I should be the poster child supporting that position

 
Are you trying to take the title away from me? There's not many of the regulars here that I haven't ticked off. But my intentions are honorable and by the rules. I guess you might just get the title, though, because you've pulled some stunts that I couldn't. I think have too much of a deadpan delivery and some things could be, and have been, taken wrong.

For the newbies, "Betsy" was an advocate for abused children, a lawyer. Her day is arguing. And arguing by re-interpreting everything you say to her advantage or prove her point. And she can never lose an argument, ever, amen. While her debating skills might be necessary to sway a jury in a case, much of it was disruptive here, though she did follow the rules, mostly. More than once, she would ask a question or start a thread, someone would answer, and she would proceed to shred their thoughts to itty, bitty bits. For what? So she could "win" the debate. An example: If you said you walked your dog once a day, she might return and say that you were remiss in caring for the dog because you didn't walk him/her twice a day. Not those exact words or that subject, but that general MO. It didn't matter what you said, she was going to "win." Many of her debates never actually settled, people just left the thread, only to go through it again somewhere else. And, many times, IMHO, her statements or style were not helping anyone. But then, all we have is opinions. As long as you don't call names or harass or use profanity and try to stick to a subject, anything can be debatable.

Really?  Anything in particular that you can recall?  The only thing I can think of where I tested the boundries was that "employment debate" thread a few months back.  I had to really be careful there.  LOL.

For a while, you would use the term "service" to euphemize having carnal relations with a woman. I thought that would get you more heat than anything but, evidently, not. Of course, there's all the "mean" things you say to Angeltrudelle but she's wise to your triflin' ways.

I think Joel's greatest (maybe only) contribution to the forum is he showed us that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously.

LMAO.  I will see if I can come up with some enlightened way to combine them all into one glorious post.  Or you could just join me on USENET, alt.politics.  We talk about all kinds of interesting stuff and you can even call me a "dumb *hit" if you want to.  Not that you should and not that doing so will get you a whole lot of respect, but you can do it.  []

Not that I have any right to chime in, because, well, I wasn't around when he was here, either time... but, I can see the humor in *some* of the posts I unearthed.  Although, his depression meds post was just out to get a rise...  his dirty, stinky fish story from his dog was pretty cute..  If only his residual impact had been USEFUL to the masses, like Mic or Glenda or Gina...

Politics makes our scraps look like hugs and kisses. There were times people made political statements on here that I felt were uncalled for but I let it go and so did most others. And I don't mean Joel, either. I'm trying to reduce my stress. It seems like the only thing politics serves is politicians. Sometimes, though, even anarchy is too organized.
