I am still in shock over his death. I loved watching his shows and it doesn't seem real to have him gone. He was an amazing guy and will be missed by all.

Go with God,Steve. I was so shocked to hear of Steve Irwin's death. I know he died doing what he loved to do but that doesn't make it any easier. I have been crying off and on all day. He had such a wonderful feel for animals especially the ones most of us find the least attractive. He was their champion. He was a real hero to me and I hope someone will continue his wonderful work at his zoo and in the wild. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Steve, Siouxie (I am not sure how it is spelled) is waiting for you at the Bridge, along with the  untold numbers of wild animlas you have helped.  There is a special place waiting for you.  RIP.[:(]

Its such a tragety, our country at the moment is devastated.
Its just awful, someone that young with a wife and two young children to be killed in that way.
    He will be missed greatly.
He's done so much for our country, hes kept and maintained Australia Zoo, he was utterly devoted.
I feel so sorry for his Wife Terri, and his children Bindi and Bob.
    Rest In Peace Mate.

Animals all over the world lost a great 'spokesperson'

This is such a tragedy and everytime I hear the story I am so saddened. He was a great person and did so much for others. All my thoughts and sympathy go to his children and wife. [:(]

"Crikey" Steve will be missed by all. He was one of a kind who had a zest for life and animal conservation. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends. G'Bye Mate!

Australia's lost one of it well known icon's, and a person that done sooooooo much for conservation. A sad day for many people. I feel for his wife and kids. His wife was notified before it was released to the public.

His wife and kids were in Tasmania hiking at the time when they received the call. He was filming for a documentry he was doing with his daughter, but she was not with him thankfully.

My first thought was a Croc but no a sting ray. He lived his life to the fullest, he died doing something he enjoyed.

    RIP.

The thing that bothers me most about his passing is that he seemed to me to be the kind of guy i could really get along with and talk to.He didnt ever let celebrity go to his head, and knew that all the attention was for the animals. When his show first aired,my family would watch it non stop, and look forward to the next episode, even marking the times down so we could all watch together. My wife always said that she would love to go to Australia and go to that zoo,and maybe even be lucky enough to meet them.

We havnt watched it so much in the recent past, but if an episode came on,we would stop clicking and watch.Through his show, you would see his kind of goofy and happy side, but you could also see him serious and candid.

I am not the type to get upset over the passing of any celebrities. Most have let the fame get to them and i just cant seem to relate to anything they have to say. This guy was different tho..He didnt try to be someone he wasnt, and its good to see people like that get exposure, especially while working for the animals like he did.I hope his work continues with the same vigor.

To put it plainly, this just sucks.I am sure he is in a great place now,and i hope for brighter days for his family left behind...

Someone elsewhere was wondering if perhaps he could have been saved if he had left the barb in, as is suggested for a stabbing...until a doctor could attend to it.  I suspect not, because of the toxins involved.  Just wondering if someone here with medical knowlege would know the answer to that.

I heard about it this morning and I instantly thought of his wife and children. I saw them on Oprah once and his little girl was up on stage with him and she was so adorable. She looked liked she just adored her daddy and she already knew so much about animals! You could tell this man loved his family, animals included.

I was shocked when I heard the news yesterday afternoon.  He was the same age as my DH -- I immediately thought of his two young children.  I saw the Oprah episode, too, and Iwhen Oprah asked his daughter what she wanted to be when she grew up, she said, "I want to be like my Daddy."  But as someone else said, both kids will be able to keep his "living self" close to them with all the video/TV, etc.  That is definitely a treasure very few people have after a loved one dies.

As my DH said, it's so tragic that someone who did so much good for the animal kingdom had to die so young, while so many creepy, lousy people who do harm to them live long lives.  Imagine what kind of education and enlightenment he would've brought all of us had he lived another 44 years.

For sure, he has a very special group of scaled, feathered, winged and legged friends greeting him.  Maybe he'll continue his work in the after-life.  Godspeed, Steve, and condolences to his family and friends.

I guess he knew pulling it out was the best option for himself.  He was very very educated with all sorts of animals and the show was about the dangers of the reef ironically enough.  I suppose the toxins were to get him had he left it.

I've never been so effected by the death of a celebrity before.  I've been crying on and off since Monday and everyone thinks I've lost it.  I didn't know him but it was so great to have him in the world.

There was a lot of information from people who were there on CNN last night.  This is the place they would like any donations to go.  [linkhttp://wildlifewarriors.org.au/index.html]http://wildlifewarriors.org.au/index.html[/link]

I haven't spoken to my mother about it yet. If she doesn't know, she's going to FLIP when she finds out.
She was ABSOLUTELY in love with this man and his work. He was the only famous person that I've ever heard her talk SO much about and she recorded ALL of his shows. I almost got her the Steve Irwin talking plush doll one year for her birthday.
I'm afraid to talk to her about it. I know she will cry.
