He will be sorely missed. I also feel sorry for his wife and children. Especially his little boy who will never know his father other than in documentries.

That's so true, and so sad.  However, if I may look at a silver lining, a lot of children who lose parents to illness or injury before getting a chance to know them are not so lucky.  They have to learn about the parent in question through stories and photographs.  This little boy will have well over a decade's worth of TV programs to watch, in which he will be able to see, hear and watch his father, learn his mannerisms and his voice, and be inspired by his dad's natural ability with animals.  Not all children will inherit such a legacy from a parent.

This is so sad. I read the news on my MSN homepage, and came here to see if it had been posted yet. What a loss for the animal community, his friends and most of all his family.

The boys were really upset when I told them this morning.  We have a sort-of nightly ritual of watching The Croc Hunter on Animal Planet after dinner - the whole family loved it. Such a larger than life man, gone too soon.  I hope that his wife and his colleagues are able to continue the work that he was clearly not finished doing.

It must be so difficult for his family. The silver lining, IMO, of all of this is that Steve died doing something he loved and lived his life to the fullest. If only everyone was so lucky.

Hubby told me last night when I was working on music.  My first thought was his kids and wife.  You know his spirit is at peace but I feel for the souls left behind.  I wish them the best.

My son called this morning to tell me and i could hardly believe it--a stingray barb in the heart.  I had always figured a croc would get him.  He was so funny and so full of life.  This is a sad day in the animal world.  His wife was from  Oregon it said on my AOL news flash.

I was so incredibly sad to hear about this..Mark woke me about 4am and told me when he read it online..When i woke up this morning i actually cried...He was such an amazing man....My kids and i loved watching the show whenever we saw it on..One of my dreams was to go there and visit the Zoo and meet him...He will be sadly missed...I'm thankful it was quick and i'm sure he didn't know it even hit him...I pray his family can find some comfort in that...God Bless them all...

Wow, how shocking.  Im so sorry for his friends and family, and hope they take comfort in that he died doing what he loved.  Better IMO than a plane crash or disease.  While way too soon, he was where he loved to be doing what he loved to do and hes lucky in that sense.  Freak accidents do happen and his death will remind lots of people around the world to enjoy each day they are given.  His legacy was a big one and he will be missed.

Steve will be missed by so many people and animals. I am sorry for his family. What a great person. I felt his passion each time I saw him interviewed or on his shows. He is with his mother now, but how very, very sad.

I haven't been around the hlast few days, so I literally heard about this five minutes ago when I walked back into the house. The tv was on, and I heard them mention Steve Irwin's death. I was so shocked that I called my mom to see if that really was true, and sadly, it was. Brett and I watched The Crocodile Hunter a lot, and I feel really bad for his wife and kids.
