What an absolute tragedy. He may have been offbeat to many but he was such a helpful to the animal world. My condolences and sympathies go out to his wife, children and family.

    How sad...[&o]

I think the article said that his wife HAD been informed...otherwise it would have been incredibly irresponsible for the press to report his death before telling her.  No one wants to find out about the death of their spouse (or any other loved one) by turning on CNN.

It's incredibly sad.  I feel particularly awful for his daughter.  She was with him on the trip and would have had to endure this for who knows how many hours before her mother was able to get to her.

It is indeed, sad, as the loss of a bright life. And, may his exemplary life be a tribute to his memory and legacy.

Recently, I haven't watched him much but did watch all the time a few years ago.

He changed my feelings on reptiles and made me much less afraid of them.  I was always particularly touched by how passionate and loving he was towards his family and also the animals.

What a devastating loss for people who really "get" what he was all about.
I feel so horrible for his family especially, Bindi.

Godspeed Steve, and thanks.  May you find paradise surrounded by your animal friends.

What a horrible thing to happen.  I have always loved to watch him with animals.  He will be missed.

I balled my eyes out this morning. I am so going to miss his silly antics and he had the love and respect for all creatures which I admired from him.

He will be sorely missed. I also feel sorry for his wife and children. Especially his little boy who will never know his father other than in documentries.

    How awfully sad.

Poor Steve. I will remember him fondly. He really did have a passion for animals that not too many people do anymore...
