    Happy Anniversary!!!

And thanks for the chocolate Jackie :)

Happy anniversary, Mr. & Mrs. Cathy!  Sorry DH isn't feeling well.  Everyone I know who has ever gotten a flu shot has gotten sick.  I've never had one (and don't intend to get one) but the last time I had anything even remotely resembling the flu, I was a freshman in high school.  Not gonna tell how long ago that was!

Thanks for the tip about a letter from the doc, Glenda.  I have to see her today so I'll try to remember to ask her about that. I seem to wind up with jury duty a couple of times a year, and they really tend to freak out at the courthouse if anything sets off an alarm. I do have a prescription for a handicap placard for the car that will be good for 2 months but hopefully I won't need it that long.

    Happy Anniversery Cathy!

Deb, last time I was in MI I was hardpressed to find too darned many Dunkin's.  MI used to be thick with them, but a year ago most seemed to have shut down.  Maybe the cops have found a new donut place?

Ugh.... I'm home from the dentist. What a fricken ordeal my one tooth has been, and the saga continues. I had a root canal last, it was done wrong, it was redone, the crown came off, the supervising dentist (cause I'm going to the dental school) said it was one of the worst crown he had ever seen. It was made by the guy who did the first bad root canal. They can't reuse it because it's been off a few months, and also, it's so badly made it would just keep coming off. I love this.  I need to fill out the form and hope they'll give me grant assistance, and I need to go after the clown who got me into this mess (instead of just saying he couldn't do it, and referring me to the endo department at the dental school in the first place). Apparently, my dentist is now in the area of the school for the best students. Two students a year get selected for this,  and she was one of them. At least I have one of the best. The supervising dentist said I'm a horrible patient, so one of the options for how to make a crown work on my tooth, they won't do it. I cringed at the sound of a pick touching my tooth. He didn't  mean it in a mean way, I know that, just in a way that trying to do some sort of surgery on me wouldn't go over well if I was bothered by that. My actual dentist knows I'm horrible. She dealt with me last year, and she dealt with me today spitting the xrays out as soon as I heard the beep so I wouldn't  puke on them. I was feeling sick on my way there. She should remember she's going to have lots of fun doing the fillings. Hopefully I qualify for the grant this year, because I've spent enough money on my stupid teeth.

Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Cathy.

I wish they would post the racing schedule for the flyball tournament on Sunday. I know I need to be there first thing in the morning, because Luke has to be measured before the racing starts, and it'll move quickly, but I would like to have an estimate of when I can expect to  be done. Then again, if Luke runs a race or a few, depending on the team's time, he might get a ribbon (that I might be able to stay to take, and might have to have someone else pick up for him if he does get it). I'm also waiting to see if he's in for a tournament in December. Given the tooth related expense, I was going to go out there anyway, but I may not if he can't be used at all.

Everyone I know who has ever gotten a flu shot has gotten sick.

When I worked at a hospital, we got free flu shots, and whenever I got one, I got sick (or at least felt really lousy for a few days).  I stopped getting shots when I left that job.  In January 2011, I was the sickest I've been in my adult life.  Went to urgent care, got scolded for not getting a flu shot.  They stuck something in my nose to test for flu virus -- it was negative.  When I was still dying 5 days later (102 fever), I went back.  They said I had the flu, but a strain that wasn't in the test.  I confirmed with the doctor that had I received the flu shot, I wouldn't have been protected because I caught a strain that wasn't part of that year's immunization blend.  So, I decided I wouldn't get flu shots; it's a crap-shoot.  I wash my hands like a fiend and hope for the best!

    Glad you're feeling better, Paige.

Happy anniversary Cathy and Mr. Cathy!

Deb, your references to cops and Dunkin' Donuts is funny to me.  In CT, those shops are on every corner.  When I've made similar references to cops and Dunkin' Donuts here, no one gets it because Dunkin' Donuts are a rarity out here.   We had ONE in the entire city, and it closed a few years ago.  There are Starbucks on every corner here . . . but somehow the image of cops hanging out at Starbucks just doesn't work!

****passing chocolate to Steph and Tums to Sharon before I go****

There really aren't donut shops here anymore. Krispie cream opened last year here and it is shut down already. You can get donuts at most 7-11 type places though so maybe that is why. Bagel shops are all over the place.

Happy anniversary mr and mrs cathy!

Sorry you are under the weather still paige but glad you are on the mend

I have never gotten sick from a flu shot and don't mind getting them. Last year was the first year in a long time that I didn't get one.

Ok I have met the limit of my memory of what I meant to respond to lol

I am on a mission at work to get a state_wide safety issue addressed. I feel my bull dozer attitude coming on which is never pretty.

I just realized that abbie and i and pretty close to being sar deployable. We have 4 tests to get through and none of them should be a problem. It will take longer to schedule them. So, I am kind of excited! It has felt so far away for so long that I was surprised when I actually looked at my check off sheet and found we were on the home stretch
    • Gold Top Dog

Yay for you and Abbie. Whatever happened to the idea of you moving out west?

I've never had a flu shot but that's mostly because of my fear of needles. I'd probably go for the nasal mist type but it's been years since I've been sick, so I just don't think of it. DH doesn't get a choice and based on a special I saw recently, I can see why. Him being sick and then working with those with a compromised immune system, could be very bad. Now if all the firefighters would stay home when they're sick, things would be even better. Hmm

    • Gold Top Dog
I can see why they would be required to get the shot. I know they don't hit every strain but it is better than nothing imo. i know this isn't the popular opinion but I hate it when people come to work sick and spread their flu germs around.

Moving out west prob isn't happening within the next 5 yrs but you never know. I am keeping my eyes open at work for future movement.

The 3 ring binder reviews on amazon are hysterical! Way too funny.

    Ditto

I've been getting flu shots for many years and have never gotten even the slightest bit sick.  Reminds me I need to get mine.

I got the flu shot once and it made me wicked sick..I actually had a disagreement with one of my HCA teachers over it. She says you can't get sick from the shot..I called bull..Then I found out I'm required to get it for work..Whoops..

    • Gold Top Dog

Hey guys...I am here and fine Deb, thanks for thinking of me.   Yesterdays storms were quick and very weird.  We managed fine in our neck of the woods :)  We had our CPR certification renewal classes today.    I did like our instructor this time. New guy, very informative.

Happy Anniversary Mr and Mrs Cathy

I started this post at 1:15 and just got back to it. We got slammed this afternoon.

    Have a good evening all.............

    • Gold Top Dog

Flu shots have never made me sick, although hubby says he did...but that was way back when they were giving live vaccines.  They insist that the dead vaccine that they give now will not make you sick.  I wonder if those who do get sick had already been exposed to the flu virus.  I believe it takes about 3 weeks to build up an immunity.  And like others said, there are other strains not covered.

Anyone had the pneumonia shot?  Unfortunately I am eligible for that one this year...watch me come down with pneumonia...  I had that as a young teen and never want to go there again!!!!

Ditto for me too. In all fairness, it really stinks for the firefighters to get sick. Each 24 hr shift is the equivalent of 3 sick days. So, if you're out for your shift (48 hrs), you use 6 sick leave days and they only get 10 a year for the first several years.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah, because firefighters don't do anything that requires peak physical condition. Huh?

Three times I have gotten the flu shot and three times I have gotten violently ill, 2-3 weeks after the fact.  If I don't get the shot, I don't get the flu so who the heck knows?

Sorry, but donuts from 7-11, even coffee for that matter, just don't cut it when you are a devoted Dunkin fan......
