Is the exhibit worth seeing? I'll be in Minneapolis for a few days in June.

Kate:  I saw the original exhibit at the MOMA in NYC when it came through  . . . . that must have been at least 25 years ago.  It was very, very interesting then and I understand they added a lot more things and updated information, etc.  If it was that good then, it's probably a worth while trip now.

I know nothing about wine.  All of you red wine drinkers, can you recommend something I can serve this weekend when friends are coming over?  We're having rib-eyes on the grill.

get a malbec or shiraz - malbec would be my choice by a long shot but both go well with grilled steaks. DH's current favorite is Layer Cake - its a very meaty red

I also go Malbec or Shiraz, but depending on whether or not your friends are wine drinkers or not, you could also go Cabernet Sauvignon which seems to be a popular well rounded choice.  I would suggest going into the liquor store and asking for someone to help you pick some wine.  Tell them the price range you want and what you are serving it with and they will help you out.  That is how I always find my favorites, and I am usually looking in the $10-$15 range.  Get a couple bottles of different things to serve and try.  Depending on what size glasses you serve, you could get from 2-4 glasses per bottle.  Probably closer to 4, but at home, I have a heavy pouring hand!  If you want to just go to the store and pick one, I always like Yellow Tail and Jacob's Creek.  There are some others too but it's been a few months since I got to peruse and buy wine so I can't think of the other names!  ;)  I have a new found love for Malbec's though!  I am not crazy about Merlot's and when in a group of people who drink wine regularly who each bring a bottle, I rarely see them served.

I really need a new vacuum, but I can't bring myself to spend that much money on one, especially since we don't even have carpet to suck hair out of.

LOL, you can tell I don't travel with the in set of wine drinkers.  Deb, just put some red food coloring in the vodka and tell them it's a new wine you've discovered.  Put it in a ceramic jug and you'll really make points for your discriminating taste. Wink

We had a Kirby guy come by the house the other day but I shooed him away.  I can't imagine spending that much on a vaccum and DH would surely pass out in shock.  He was pretty shocked at the cost of the Dyson.  I have heard great things about the Kirby.  Funny that I get calls from people all the time wanting to buy filters and belts for their Kirby vaccum.  Apparently when they google it our company name comes up.  lol  Just gotta love the internet.   Our company is located in Kirby so I guess that's why it comes up.  Some get pretty ticked when I tell them we're an a/c company and no, I don't know where they can get stuff for their vaccum other than looking on that company's website.  duh.

It's funny, because I really don't have discrimating taste either, you can serve me something super cheap, and it might be a little bitter or have some bite for my first sip, but I can grow to like it pretty fast!  I just know my preferences.  I will totally drink Merlot if it is my choice, I just never buy it.  I am not a fan of white wines, but again, if it is my only choice, I will drink them too, but you will NEVER find me drinking any sort of Zinfandel!  Yuck!

Sarah, you obviously know tons more about wine than I ever will since I couldn't tell the difference between a Zinfandel and a whatever (can't think of any others, lol).  Wine gives me a headache and especially red wine.  My niece got me a bottle of white wine a while back and it was pretty good but I don't remember the name of it.  It was some off the wall brand from World Market with Texas in the name. :)  I was just teasing and didn't mean to sound like I thought you were putting on airs about your wine knowledge which is miles above mine.

Jackie, I understand the shock of the expense, but if you figure they last at least 20 years, mine cost me about $55/year.  And having pets, the shampooer has paid for itself, esp. between all the cat puking episodes as well as the dog diarrhea and incontinence I've dealt with in the past several years.

Well, duh, esp. if you drink a gallon of it. Devil

PS: it is probably due to the sulfites in it.

alright, I'm awake.  I left my cell phone and my D3 pills at home.  I know when I'm dragging after 16oz of coffee that I've forgotten those pills.  I thought they were just supposed to help my bones and maybe have an effect on my heart (my friend's Dr prescribed them for her heart condition)... but never thought I'd end up feeling much more energetic/alert w/them than without.

Apparently, there was a "fight" for me here at work.  Two different sources really wanted to bring me on, and one got their paperwork in sooner than the other and therefore got me first.  Both are long-term committments, one longer than the other, one more geared toward what I want to do for full-time work/career.  So, I gotta make some decisions.  Meanwhile, in a completely different area, I have another interview half-way in the works.  It's all in response to my request for a "push" from the Universe. lol

Speaking of the Universe/Higher Powers,etc... who's ready for the Rapture this weekend?? Sorry, I want to put lol at the end, but I don't want to offend anyone.  I still haven't read why this particular date was chosen... Anyone know?

Tina, I read a while back about sulfites in wine causing headaches for some people.  And when you drink a gallon those sulfites add up. LOL!

Too late for me to invest in a Kirby vacuum since we already have a Dyson and a Bissell carpet cleaner.  I do agree that having something that lasts that long is a good investment.

Paige, I was wondering about the cause of the rapture myself. I've got plans for Saturday and this could really mess them up.  Congrats on all the interest in hiring you!  You've got to be feeling pretty good about that.  I know I would. :)  PAIGE, you aren't taking your friends heart medicine are you?  Maybe it's just the way you worded that sentence.  I have no idea what D3 is btw, so maybe it's harmless over the counter stuff.  Off to google it.  Anything to put off the boring work I should be doing.

The eaglets in Iowa are getting so big!

ETA, whew just a vitamin.  Sorry for yelling at you Paige. :)

     congrats Paige

the 'rapture' better not be this weekend because I'm off to the beach - the world can end after I get a few days at the beach

    • Gold Top Dog

I was told the end of the world was coming that day since that was what we had picked for the wedding day.  So since that has been postponed, rest assured that the rapture is also in the process of being rescheduled.  Feel free to enjoy your weekend as usual Wink

I'm strictly a white or white zin girl myself.  I got really sick on red wine years ago - still not sure if it was the wine or the chocolate caramel turtle cake I was having with it or the fact that I had something like three helpings of each. Tongue Tied World Market has an amazing chocolate wine, but it's something you'd be more likely to polish off after dinner instead of with it. My generation invented wine coolers, so if I have red wine I'm more likely to lace it with 7-UP and/or fruit w/fruit juice.

Is this May or did someone roll the calendar back to February???
