    Tuesday Chitty Chat

Sunny day, blue skies...should be a good one.

Off today.  Kelly and I are going with her mother to the Science Museum for the King Tut exhibit.  Should be interesting.

I have been on a shoe trying on...buying....wearing around the house.....returning odessy for the past three weeks.  I currently have a pair of Earth shoes on that I think are too narrow.  I'll try them for a couple days, but I don't think they will be staying.  I did find a pair of great hiking boots for Yellowstone.

Glenda, Kelly is totally jealous of your garden.  We have a tiny one by comparison.  Tomatoes, beans, peas, cukes, garlic, potatoes, some sort of squash.  We got it all in the ground on Sunday and then the evening news said "FROST".  Went back out to cover things up.

    See ya!

Someone smack me awake please.... I am about to have a little fainting spell of sleepiness....I need to WAKE UP!!!

    SMACK!!!  Feel better?

Mindy, my garden isn't planted yet.  We still have to rake it out and re-install fencing, but even then, the only thing going in right now are my frost resistent.  My garlic was planted in the fall, the onions a couple weeks ago and green onions in a huge, deep pot about a month ago.  Those are pretty close to being ready to use.  I have 5 kinds of squash (can you tell we like squash?), potatoes ready to go in, corn, peas, beans, carrots, watermelon, cantalope, pickling cukes, cabbage, brocolli, spinach, three kinds of lettuce, green peppers, jalepenos, LOTS of tomatoes and probably a few other things that I've forgotten.  BUT, I've been warned that only frost resistent stuff should go in before Memorial Day, so garlic, onions, taters and the cabbage family stuff will go in by the weekend, the peas and green beans and of course the salad fixings.  I need to find a bale of straw "just in case", but it also makes for a nice all around protection.  THIS is how spring fever displays itself in me!

Mom and I were talking last night.  Sis will spend hours and hours in her flower beds but doesn't like growing food.  I'm the complete opposite.  I enjoy the flowers, but would rather put the work into something edible.  Guess she got Mom's flower gene and I got Dad's farming gene.

OK.  I need to get moving so I can go into work to get some down time!  Being in the office is enforced no physical labor! Wink  My muscles and I are definately not on speaking terms!

    Have a great day everyone!

Speaking of gardens, we had bruschetta with tomatoes and basil last night.  Always tastes best when you grow it yourself. :)

Wake up, Paige and smell the coffee!  Coffee

Deb, to guys like Mr W and my DH, a paper shredder is like a new set of off road tires. lol

So, apparently I've gone off the deep end. In addition to making a major stove purchase (granted we really did need a new stove), I ended up buying the vacuum/carpet cleaner the guy demoed for me last night. Ugh! This is NOT like me. You have to kick me repeatedly to buy ANYTHING for myself outside of bare necessities. Our Dyson is barely 6 mos. old (I am in the process of attempting to resell it)! But, I vacuumed TWICE yesterday before the guy came and the amount of DIRT this Kirby vacuum pulled up was amazing, disgusting and disturbing all in one. I can afford the payments on it and can likely get it paid off sooner than when the payments are scheduled to end. Seriously though, what is wrong with me?!

I also made my final payment on my car today! I'm just spending big money left and right. It'll be nice to have the car titled in our names, considering at the end of the summer the significant other is purchasing a brand new vehicle (his car has served him well but really really needs to be retired).

Sharon, I had a feeling when you said a demo and sales pitch for a vacuum, it was for Kirby.  I have a Generation 3 that is about 18 years old and still going strong.  I paid $1100 for it, but the shampooer part has been a complete lifesaver.

I hope you got a good price on it.  A friend of my DS recently went through this experience and the sales rep was so desperate to make a sale that the vacuum that started around $3400 was down to about $1600 before he finally gave up.  The rep even spilled the beans that they make commission on the mark-up and the vacuum was really worth $1400 and he couldn't go less than $200 above cost (hence the $1600 final offer).

I was raised with Kirbys so I wasn't a hard sell at age 26, but knowing what I know now, if I buy another, it will not be at $2000 above cost.

They do suck up a butt load of dirt and in the 18 years I've had mine, I've replaced only 2 belts and the beater bar once.  You can also find Kirby OEM parts online and the bags are much cheaper than your local distributor will charge.  You may already know that bags and belts are not sold in any stores like Target, Walmart, etc; off brands will not work in the Kirby (trust me on this).

I know nothing about wine.  All of you red wine drinkers, can you recommend something I can serve this weekend when friends are coming over?  We're having rib-eyes on the grill.

Is the exhibit worth seeing? I'll be in Minneapolis for a few days in June.

Tina, I got a great deal on it. He gave me one that was used twice as a demo (at my house and his appointment before me) for the cost of their refurbished model (nearly $500 off), plus an attachment that sells for 59 dollars for free, a free bottle of spot remover and a year supply of bags at no cost. The attachment thing (the brushes spin so great for dog hair) really works well on the stairs and on our couch. I'm definitely not having buyers remorse, just wondering what the heck has gotten into me lately with spending money! My Mom loves hers and the guy who came to my house was the same one who sold my Mom hers.

I stay away from Merlots - but that's a personal preference (I haven't had a merlot I liked). I personally am fond of Jacob's Creek Shiraz Cabernet. It's got a good body to it but is also smooth to drink. I think that red would pair well with rib eyes.

I'm not much of a wine drinker but I like Yellow Tail Merlot.  :)

get a malbec or shiraz - malbec would be my choice by a long shot but both go well with grilled steaks. DH's current favorite is Layer Cake - its a very meaty red

Well when I can grab a bit of time I will post some before and after pics of all the work we had in the yard, it looks wonderful and now we have the finishing touches, planting, and 'staging' to do.  They will come back next week and put the fountain thingy in.  DH was going to do it but he happily passed it on to them - this is a good thing.

Bugsy is happy I'm home.  We went to the lake this morning and he was great then we were surveying the work which apparently set off a major zoomie session LOL. I went for a run without him and met his two lab girlfriends and they came charging up to me - its wonderful to be loved Big Smile and my furrry vizsla niece keeps getting out all the toys I brought her and looking for me (so I am told) Its official, I'm the crazy dog lady!

Jackie I am jealous that you are already eating from the garden - my radishes and lettuce are ready but tomatoes and peppers are only teeny.  nothing on the squash or eggplant yet

OK I sooooooooooooooo need to dive into my work - have a great day all
