My husband said to make things easy we should do what John Wayne's character did one of his movies -- his dog's name was Dog!  Big Smile

Billy was "Boy" (as in "c'mere Boy" for a week.

You'll find it and it will be perfect.

Do you like Karma?  Or has anyone said Tiger Lily?  Or just Lily?  I had Winnie on a short list for myself but I'll let you have it if you want, LOL!

How about Dixie? (I don't know-Dixie cup, LOL!) Its kind of cute.

I think Bon Bon is so cute.  But, your husband probably won't like it.

I tend to like two names-maybe because my name is Lori-Ann-it sounds normal to me, LOL?

Daphne or Stella?  (I'm going to name her yet!!)

    • Gold Top Dog

Congratulations on your new love.  :)    It took us months to settle on a name for Gabby.   Your new girl is lucky that you've decided to keep her and no matter what name you settle on, she'll always be Lucky. lol

    • Gold Top Dog

     hahahaha Tiffani!

    Lori, I love Stella!

    • Gold Top Dog

Johnniette is quite popular these days!  Wink

I had another idea.  How about Flower?

    • Gold Top Dog
Flower would be cute! I just saw Gin Rummy and thought Rummy maybe?

...When we were considering flower names, we thought of Rosie, but that's another good friend's name.  Not that she'd mind sharing her name with a dog, but it could get confusing since we see a lot of each other!  And Tessa is our little 2-year old neighbor around the corner.  It's hard to find something that isn't already taken!  Wink...

You know, Susie has a nice ring to it.  Wink  I haven't heard of a dog named Susie in ages.

Ok -- now *I* am lost in music.

Wake-up Little Susie (Everly Brothers -- NOW you know how old I is!!! *grin*)

    and

    Suzie-Q (the Creedence version)

I honestly really DO like Suzie or Suzie-Q -- 2 syllables, great call name - good "short" nickname

You guys are all making me smile with your great suggestions and nice comments!  We're all very like-minded -- Flower, Daphne and Dixie were three I suggested (along with Dolly), but Jeff wasn't a fan.  Lily was our neighbor's dog who died very young, so we'd feel bad using that.

However -- Callie's musical references are fitting.  In fact, after the weird coincidence of hearing Lori's favorite song by Donald Fagen shortly after reading her post, we thought of other "Ruby" songs -- the one by Kenny Rogers and Ruby Tuesday (the Stones), for example.  It's a good name for singing to her!

Along with that, it's got two syllables, is easy to say, can match with fun nicknames, and both Jeff and I like the sound of it.  So . . . we've got a Ruby!  Smile

Thanks again for all your suggestions.  I promise I'll learn how to post photos soon.  And I know I'll be looking for advice on other areas of the forum I haven't visited in a very long time!

     yea for Ruby!

As it happens it's Tueday (and I like Melanie's version of Ruby Tuesday best *grin*)

She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter if it's gone
    While the sun is bright
    Or in the darkest night
    Now she's loved!
    She came and stayed!

    Good-Night, Ruby Tuesday
I-Dog hung a name on you!
When you learn with every new day
    I'm sure gonna kiss you...

Don't question why, she loves us so
Shell tell you it's the only way to be
    She just can't be chained
To a tree where nothings gained
    And alll things lost
    At such a cost

There's no time to waste, I heard her say
Live your dreams before they slip away
    Loving all the time
    Chase sunbeams
And you will have some fun
    Aint life too grand?

    Good-Night, Ruby Tuesday
I-Dog hung a name on you!
When you learn with every new day
    I'm sure gonna kiss you...
(No, I promise I won't quit my day job!! but the refrain will make a GOOD "her song";) and it just fits so well since she got her name on a TUESDAY!!!

"Good ... NIght ... Ruby Tuesday

I-Dog hung a name on you!!

Ruby is a great choice!  Years ago I used to dog sit for the most beautiful Golden named Ruby.  She was just the most beautiful and nicest dog you could want to meet.  She just had one problem!  She wouldn't leave her driveway until her family came back.  I couldn't walk her!  And, she would not drink out of a bowl!

    • Gold Top Dog

Callie -- thank you so much for the custom-made lyrics!  I'm going to print them out so I can try to commit them to memory.  You are very sweet and clever to have written that for us!

Beejou -- thank you for the song link.  I've not heard of that one, so I'm glad to have another to add to our repertoire!

Lori, if our Ruby only has the problems your client's Ruby had, then we'll be very grateful!

Thank you again everyone --- I'm sure I'll ask for more guidance as our transition with her moves forward.  Tonight she showed her first fearful behavior -- it was the first time Jeff used our gas grill on the patio.  She was afraid of it to the point that she hesitated going outside each time he went to tend to it.  We think it was the gas hissing sound since she's walked by it dozens of times when it's off.  And the heat didn't seem to be a trigger because she's not afraid of walking past the kitchen oven when we're baking something.  As DH said, it's part of the puzzle when you don't have a dog's complete history -- so we'll work on figuring it out and helping her!
