We need some name suggestions - new family member! (tacran)

So is it Ruby for sure now?

I thought of two: Puddle and Gracia (Grey-sha)

Tonight she showed her first fearful behavior -- it was the first time Jeff used our gas grill on the patio.  She was afraid of it to the point that she hesitated going outside each time he went to tend to it.  We think it was the gas hissing sound since she's walked by it dozens of times when it's off. 

Or it could have been that she saw a flare up or something catch fire on the grill -- OR she could simply be afraid of fire or the *smell* of the gas.

 Or if it is the hissing, perhaps it's the sound a snake has made? Or some other similar noise that has scared her in the past.  Ya never know! Get out a clicker and start shaping her to not care about it!  If you want or need some help in that front, I'm totally willing to help. :)

Janice -- we did decide on Ruby officially.  In fact, one of the other reasons we liked the sound of it is because I've always liked Rupert's name, and Jeff enjoys seeing photos of him when I show them your threads. 

Leslie -- we thought of a snake sound, too.  Or perhaps a cat that hissed at her.  She does have a couple small, thin scars on her muzzle, so she may have gotten too close to a cat and got a nasty scratch.  We may recruit your help with clicker work.  This morning Jeff took her outside by the grill with a big bunch of really yummy treats and put them around the grill, under it, lifted the cover off, opened and closed it, etc. (feeding her the treats the whole time).  She initially kept her distance and stretched her nose to it as close as she could, but she moved closer to get the treats after a while. 

We think she hasn't been exposed to a lot of things outside the basic home, so we'll be working on carefully exposing her to more things as each day goes by.  I'll be sure to separate threads for this stuff now before this one turns into a novel!  Our first obstacle was her name, and we're grateful for all your input (and musical pointers)!!

Tracy, don't worry, as soon as she realizes what kind of yummy stuff the grill produces she will quickly get over her fear!!  Willow also had fears and uncertainties about things like the toaster(the toast popping up used to send her flying out of the room while growling).  But, after awhile they get used to them.

 it could also be the sight of your DH at the grill - may be holding tongs or something?

The first time Bugsy met his golden retriever friend (they met as pups and are similar age) the DH at the house came out of the garage with some tree pruner and B was terrified.  We were shocked, however he still has a bit of weirdness if someone holds something long and thin in the air.  It isn't too bad now but it is clearly something he doesn't like
