We need some name suggestions - new family member! (tacran)

    • Gold Top Dog

I wouldn't use Salvia, but that's just me. It's also a name for a kind of plant people use to get high. Would kinda be like having a dog named Weed or something. LoL, just throwing that out there!

I stand by Halo especially after seeing the pics ;)

    • Gold Top Dog

She's beautiful! I'd love to give that girl a hug, and I do like Thyme for a name.

    • Gold Top Dog

Thanks everyone for the compliments -- she is a very pretty girl!  Thanks also for the great name suggestions.  It's so hard to choose one that feels like it really fits.  Honestly, I don't know how those of you with children select names for them!  If I had an infant, the poor baby would be nameless for a week or more!

We do like Sage (thanks for the Salvia reminder!), but maybe prefer 2 syllables.  I really like the flower names (especially Pansy and Poppy), but I can't get DH to go for those.  The one name we've agreed on so far is Ruby.  It rolls off the tongue nicely when you pair it with commands and stuff -- plus it'll be easy to morph into some silly nicknames if we're so inclined.  Smile  However, we're not 100% sure it's the right one!

Maybe we'll wake up tomorrow with a clear decision!

    • Gold Top Dog

Tracy, congratulations on your new family member!  She is adorable!

I like Ruby!  There is a song by Donald Fagen called Ruby Baby. . .love that song!  Willows first owners had several cats named after cheese too.  Do you like Lacey Swiss?   Or, how about Meadow?

Also, I THINK that harness is on wrong?  If its like what I'm thinking that ring that is to her left leg if you are looking at the picture should be moved over to be centered on her chest?  I might be thinking of a different harness so forgive me if I'm way off!

    • Gold Top Dog
Although it has 3 syllables I like Aria. It's musical.unique, sounds feminine and can be shortened to Ari or Ria.
    • Gold Top Dog

It's funny how some of you are suggesting names that were on my list -- including Meadow and Aria!  It's frustrating that the ones I like don't resonate with DH.  And the reverse is true -- the couple he favored I didn't like much (Norah after Norah Jones and Giada after Giada DeLaurentis -- two beautiful women, but not exactly great dog names!).

I really like Lacey -- but rhyming with Tracy could be a problem when DH is calling one of us! Smile

You're right, Lori --- it is a front clip harness.  The one in that photo is the one from the shelter that the volunteer used when walking her.  I think it's kind of twisted or stretched.  We got a new one that fits better.  Using one is new to us, but I like it so far.

I've got to find the Donald Fagen song -- I don't think I know it!  If that is the name we'll choose, I'll have to learn to sing it!

    • Gold Top Dog
For some reason, I thought of Chloe when I saw her. She's adorable!
    • Gold Top Dog

She is so beautiful!  Her color reminds me of Chocolate mousse, soft light cocoa.  How bout Mocha or Latte??  Or caramel or toffee?  MMMM I need to find some chocolate soooonnnn!!!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Sometimes the difference between husband and wife can be a chasm.  When we got Billy I wanted to name him Timmy and David HATED it.  We're both LOTR fans (long before the movies) and one night after about a week David came in from the back and said 'Well -- whatever we call him, I just found him on the TOP of the 6 foot shelves in the Laundry.  HOW he got up there I have not a clue.  Quite an Adventure for a little cocker!"

I said "The Adventurer?" and we literally said AT THE SAME TIME "BILBO THE ADVENTURER!!!"

Billy as a call name but oh my yes, he LOVED to answr to "Bilbo"

Fwiw -- ask your husband why he reacts to Pansy and Poppy that way.  Where *I* am from a pansy is a wuss -- would be a very uncomplimentary name that might be misinterpreted with her breed.

Poppy is synonymous with opium (Horse, smack) and all that implies.  Those would come springing to my mind in defense of your husband.

Rosie -- I really like.  (Then again, that was Sam's girlfriend in LOTR -- LOL I digress).

Give a few days Tracy -- there's no shame in that.  You can just be direct and say "Come" and pair the name with it later.

For me it's **always** gotta be about personality.  I don't give a fig whether it's a people name or a word -- it's GOTTA fit the dog.  Luna was Luna before we got her and a more ill-fitting name I've never known.

Tinkerbell is SUCH a Tinkerbell -- it is one of the best names we've ever chosen.  And she literally did it herself.

You won't screw up Tracy -- you've taken time to do this.  Don't rush the name.  You'll do 100% right!!! *hugs* (but dang, she's a pretty girl!)

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, Tracy, she's beautiful!  I'm so happy for you guys!  If you're still looking for name suggestions, how about Bella or Tessa?

    • Gold Top Dog

Again, it's too funny how several suggestions have been on our list!  We thought of all the coffee/chocolate combinations, too.  And I really like Bella, but we have two sets of friends with dogs named Bella.  Callie, you're spot on with the Poppy and Pansy references -- exact reasons why Jeff didn't like them!  Smile

When we were considering flower names, we thought of Rosie, but that's another good friend's name.  Not that she'd mind sharing her name with a dog, but it could get confusing since we see a lot of each other!  And Tessa is our little 2-year old neighbor around the corner.  It's hard to find something that isn't already taken!  Wink

Oddly enough, Jeff called me a few minutes ago  -- he was driving and a song came on the radio with "Ruby" in the main lyrics, but he didn't recognize the song.  I went to the station's on-line play list, and it was the song that Lori mentioned in her post (by Donald Fagen)!  I've never heard it before either . . . isn't that a weird coincidence?!  Maybe it's a sign!

    • Gold Top Dog

I like Ruby, I also thought of Heather (as in Japanese Heather, delicate lacy leaves, tiny purple flowers).

I have an Echo. and hindsight being what it is, I think there could have been a better name for her LOL

sometimes I am forced to yell "ECHOOOOO!!"  loudly because my dog has run off LOL.  And if they don't know my dog is named echo, people look at me like I"m a lunatic... "what the hell is she yelling 'echo' for? there's no mountain around here!"  LOL  I got this look on the beach yesterday when she got waaaay out ahead of me. LOL.

    • Gold Top Dog

    Shamrock mommy, LMBO!!!

I once had a dog with a name that if I said quickly or yelled it out it sounded much like a racial slur Indifferent I was HORRIFIED and called him only by nickname when in public.

    • Gold Top Dog

Beejou and Tiffani -- stories like yours are funny (or in your case, Beejou -- rather uncomfortable!), but I guess we're trying to reduce the chances of such embarassment!  Wink  We keep eliminating names because we try them out and realize they sound like something else or are harder to say quickly or loudly (we must sound like idiots -- calling out names and commands for the past 2 days!).

I guess there's no perfect name -- there's always going to be something about a name that could be misheard or misinterpreted!  My husband said to make things easy we should do what John Wayne's character did one of his movies -- his dog's name was Dog!  Big Smile

IT IS!!!  Its on Donald Fagen's album called Nightfly-the WHOLE album is sooooo great.

I was thinking how about Greta?  I've always liked that one.

    (is pronounced GREH-tah)
