I bought Baily a soft (yet durable) flourescent frisbee today.  I figured it'd be good for playing in the snow.  It won't bury itself in the drifts and is very brightly colored.  He won't play with it as long as his ball is still around.  I put it in the house and he just moped around the yard until I got it....He's so single minded........

I checked Pan's teeth last night to make sure everything was coming in nicely (he hates having me check his mouth) and noticed that he has an overbite like Nikon.  Is that normal?  Nikon's never got better and now is a definite fault (in fact he is at risk of being "banned" from the SV studbook if I present him for a breed survey and the judge thinks the overbite is too big).  Maybe I'm just paranoid, but after Nikon I went with *totally* different lines/type and dogs that are KKL1 (top breed survey) to stack the deck in my favor, I just don't want *another* big overbite.  I would never "return" Nikon or sell him b/c of that but it is frustrating when you spend years researching dogs/breeders and countless dollars and hours invested in training and showing and end up with a dog that is really everything you want as far as temperament and conformation but can no longer compete...

I've never had a bite go off after 10 weeks. One good rule of thumb is...if you can insert a matchhead between the top and bottoms when closed (on a small up) the dog will always be overshot.

Just something an old houndsperson told me. Bite's aren't a big deal in hounds really, but no one likes the look of an overbite. Lack of underjaw is somewhat of a detriment cosmetically...I would imagine in a Schutzhund dog the bite is more important?

Bummer, maybe he is going to come around fine, it really would depend on the lines and what his parents mouths looked like and what he looked like as a small pup.

I think G is developing a cataract in her right eye.  I see a small roughly circular spot on her eye when she looks up at me in the training room - only that eye.  Been there more than once (ie, not an eye booger or something similar.)  We have a vet appt coming up, so I'll ask.

Yeah the matchhead is actually what they use when the do the breed survey.  If the bite is not absolutely perfect, the dog is not KKL1.  If the bite is more than a matchhead apart, the dog is not eligible for KKL2 and must be "banned".  Nikon had one stuck in his mouth when he was 13 months and the judge excused him from getting a dental certification (I just wanted proof he had *all* his teeth in case of an accident in training, but luckily the judge excused him rather than note the overbite and put it on the pedigree).

This degree of overbite really makes no difference in Schutzhund.  Nikon's is purely cosmetic.  There are some dogs that need some sort of intervention b/c the bite causes other problems in the mouth but for Nikon that's not the case.  I do think his overbite makes his jaw a bit undershot and I don't like that look either.  I really couldn't care less about the bite when it's purely cosmetic, but it needs to be a perfect scissor bite as far as the standards go.

How long do dogs teeth?  I know Pan's top teeth are new b/c they are very shiny and bigger, but maybe the bottom ones aren't new yet?

I have copies of Pan's parents' breed surveys so I'll check their dental charts...

I always find the canines go last. the incisors first, molars...then canines. Just in my experience. Most of my dogs have been done by 6-7 months. In time for shows. I don't show them til all their adult teeth are in.

why has Bugsy returned to the speed eating of his youth and trying to lick the finish off his SS bowl?

If he keeps this up we'll be back to having assorted objects in the bowl with his food

You feed him out of a bowl? Is he on home cooked or raw or something? (Can't remember)

orijen fish is our staple - he usually eats from a bowl and then some is in a dispensing toy - I need to put some in a bowl because of the supplements he gets.  But over the last month he is hoovering it up like when he was a pup.  Going to have to slow it down LOL

Sully has started asking to be picked up and held like a baby...upside down. He runs up, puts his two front feets on yer knees and raises those hound dawg eyes to your face and ASKS.

And you MUST pick him up, because he's just too cute to say "no" to!

I've been home, sick, today, & Shooter has been right there next to me all day.  He's never a loyal, snuggly little guy, so it's a little worrisome.

This evening, I was eating a cup of yogurt.  I had the rattie girls out, sleeping in my lap.  I looked up at the tv for a minute, & looked back down to find both of their little heads in my yogurt.  They are so rotten!

Bugsy keeps having reverse sneezes when he wakes up

Ari keeps making me run late in the morning lol. She's turned into such a snuggle bug at night and first thing in the morning. Our morning routine is she throws herself on top of me, and I rub her ears. Any deviation from that routine is met with pleading puppy dog eyes and grumbles lol. She also grumbles at the alarm clock now on occasion.

Abbie has discovered that if she stays in when the other 2 dogs go outside, she gets special attention. I think I'm being manipulated.

Tee hee! Rascal does that too! Well, he groans, not grumbles. Quite the way I feel when the alarm goes off in the morning ;)
