    Dog related random chatter

for today...here's my entry...feel free to add on,

The other day, my Mom came by and dropped off a bag of the kids clothes. She didn't come inside, she had the flu and well, we aren't speaking right now. Hubs went outside and got the the bag from her. He set it on the table in the living room...

Cleo had been excited when the doorbell rang then calmed down when no one came in. But later she was walking past the bag and like STOPPED dead and whiffed the heck out of it...then started obsessively looking at the front door and then at me, and then the front door. LOL!

I told her "yes Cleo grandma gave us that bag and she was here but she's gone now, and isn't coming inside for you to accost..." Cleo cocks her head at me and sniffs the bag AGAIN and then just goes and stares at the front door. LMAO.

    Crazy dog!

I'm fascinated by the ebb and flow of "who's the boss" in my multi dog household lately. Who's the boss probably isn't the right term, it's more like who is the bossiest and most grouchy at the time.

Lily and Abbie go back and forth, most of the time Lily will give Abbie (the grouch) respect, but every once in a while Lily gives Abbie the middle finger and they scrap it out. Last night while Abbie was laying on the floor chewing on a bone, Lily ran right up to her, made lots of ruckus and stole the bone right out from Abbie. I couldn't believe it. Even though Abbie initially complained, she actually let it go without much of a fight.

Neiko NEVER does anything to get Abbie upset. He gives her a wide berth 100% of the time. he's a total wuss. But last night, he and I were goofing around on the couch, Abbie jumped up and wanted in on the fun and he actually told her off. At first, he was unsure of the telling off part like "I don't know if this is such a good idea" then he gave way. But a few mins later he came up and pushed her buttons again. This time they actually did scrap it out for a split second until he backed down - obviously regretting his moment of bravado. They were back to playing tug with the stuffies within minutes so no worries. It was just interesting to watch it all go down.

A few months ago David left a bottle of Tums on the floor by the futon -- the pug easily got the top off and ate them ALL -- wintergreen colored poop is STILL poop (and it's not helpful to the liver either) -- it looked like wintergreen chiffon .. however it smelled like ... poop.

So do you think if I frame the quarter Dr. Bailey took out of Muffin this morning mabye I can convince the husband his Tums habit is an expensive one?

Billy on the other paw is simply CONVINCED now that you go to Dr. B's office and you feel better.  He felt REALLY crappy when we got to the vet yesterday ... the vet gave him a shot of Cerenia and you shoulda seen Billy's face - "If you stuck me there must be it's gonna help huh??"  My dogs just plain have been to the vet too often.

I nearly had to pry him out of there with a crowbar yesterday -- he gets attention, fawned over and "feels better".

I really think I'm often "just a car".

Gina I'm sure you got a lecture from Cleo that it's not nice to "hide" Grandma and next time she needs to come IN.  AFter all -- a Leonberger has needs!  (And "accosting" would be high on an alphabetical list at least)

A week from Friday I get my puppy back!! I have certainly missed him, although I can't deny that there are some things that his absence has made some things easier (like traveling, staying late at the office, keeping the house clean, not going outside in awful weather, etc.). I do love the little guy, but gosh if having a dog as a young and un-settled-down person isn't HARD work!

Rascal's been having a good time at "camp" (in laws' house). I hope he settles back into our normal routine here without too much stress!

Sully's new crate finally got here. It's a bit bigger than the old one. It'll be his "home" crate and the smaller one will be the "away" one. Smaller, easier to get in the car and carry. I think it's a sound plan!

Hopefully he won't freak out when we do the switch later LOL!

It is hard work having a dog when you are un-settled! Shoot sometimes it's hard when you are settled! Hopefully he will fall back in to his normal routine when he gets home :)

    Jewlieee
Hopefully he will fall back in to his normal routine when he gets home :)

It has been my experience that just as soon as the human gets the routine down....the dogs change it!  Do you suppose it is to keep us on our toes? LOL!

I LIKE this dog related random chatter!

Willow, our eldest Golden, is 9.5 years young. Her most recent bedtime behavior is hanging out over the beds - standing there hovering a like a cartoon vulture - waiting for her brother or sister to get up and move over, or off of the bed altogether. Each night it's the same routine. Everybody beats feet into the beds for night-night, while she kicks & rolls around in the living room. When she finally comes in, all the spots are taken. Soooo, she stands there with her head hanging very low, sunk way beneath her shoulder blades, staring. Most of the time, someone will move for her. Usually it's Myrika (our Shepherd) who really likes to sleep in the living room anyway! What antics, I swear.

Sully knows he cannot bark outside...well, not much. So instead he moooooooaaaannsss and groooooaannns his displeasure at the dog on the other side of the fence. It might be MORE annoying than barking!

    • Gold Top Dog
Oh my gosh, Gina, Rascal does that too! It's not as moan-y (him not being a hound, and all), but he does this sort of growly warbly noise. I agree, probably more annoying than just outright barking! It took me the longest time to figure out what that noise meant.

Do you get the, "I'm not barking, because I'm a good dog, but I still want you to pay attention to me" fake sneeze thing, too?

    • Gold Top Dog

lol! the fake sneeze thing. Dakota used to be the queen of fake sneezing for attention. my aussies don't do it that much, but Neiko is a mumbler and grumbler.

Abbie also mumbles and grumbles when she's laying down and I nudge her to get out of my way.

    • Gold Top Dog

nope no fake sneezing...that sounds like fun tho LOL!

I've got four dog crates in my vehicle.  Gabby rides in a crate on the back seat, as does Twister but he's got his own crate, of course.  The two big dogs ride in crates in the very back.  Gabby has decided that she wants to ride in a big dog crate.  She's been jumping in her crate for months but now won't and goes to the back of the car and sits down.  This morning, to see if that's what she really wanted, I opened the back and opened a crate and she jumped right on in.  lol

You're going to need a bigger car jackie ;p
