Wow, Candace, I missed that.  I saw the opening line about msgs from facebook and flooding, but for some reason I thought Farmville....

(Not trying to make light of the situation, just trying to give a small smile.)

Rescue workers will be there - Red Cross will help to fill in some gaps tonight, and the rest that can be done will come in the form of support in the morning and the days that follow.  This article gives me some feeling of relief - no injuries reported, worst damage is a huge hole in a highway, otherwise most of the roads are open again.  If this area is close to your family, it gives some hope: http://www.bclocalnews.com/vancouver_island_north/northislandgazette/news/103786989.html

Callie, once you hit the age, they will send you membership cards...oh, every six months or so.  Sigh...

Lauren, I hope that you had a wonderful day. Congratulations.

Jackie, I can totally understand why you are in love with Gabby. Heck, I'm in love with her, & I haven't even met her!

I'm glad to hear that Kelci's skin is improving!

I hate out front loading washer. It's a total POS. We have had it for almost a year, & we have had to have it serviced 4 times. It has been replaced once, & it is, currently, leaking again. All that I will say it thank god for the warranty.

Cathy, I hope that you have a great visit with your friend.

Grab, I do not understand why the kid's parents weren;t at the game. I, by no means, had the greatest mother in the world, but I can say that she was always at my games. I can't remember her ever missing game. She sure as hell wouldn't have been too drunk to come to me if I were hurt. That's just nuts.

"Dry up" vibes for Kingcome. Candace, I am praying that your friends & family are all safe, & that the waters recede quickly.

Oh the things that I could do in a garden by moonlight.....

I was supposed to be going out tonight, but I opted out of it. I'm tired, & just need some time to relax & unwind.

This morning, Cher & I went to train. She had great obedience & tracking sessions, & she was super excited to see our helper. We've got two more weeks before she can resume normal activities, so she didn't get to "play" with the helper. I cannot wait for her to be a normal dog again. This limiting exercise bs if for the birds.

After training, we went to two different bridal showers. I would have preferred dual root canals without anesthesia...

Paige, Port Hardy is on Vancouver Island. Its close to Kingcome, but Kingcome is on the mainland. Its an inlet, on a river that produced from glacier runoff. Right now, the people in Hardy are focused on friends and family in Kingcome. Evacuation is in progress and people will be brought to Port McNiel and Alert Bay, which are about an hour south of Hardy. Its only about a half hour flight, maybe less on a chopper, I'm not sure, I've only flown on the sea planes, but there are 106 people to evacuate.

Several houses have been damaged, though as far as I know, every one of them is still standing, due mostly to the fact that they are built to withstand flooding. I'm not kidding when I say that in some areas of the village the water level is 9 or 10 feet high at least. Is not just standing water either. Its rushing river, and many porches have been torn off. What's dangerous is that there are chunks of ice being carried downriver, and trees that were barely hanging on by the roots before the flood, have been ripped free and are jamming themselves against houses and power lines. When it floods on a regular basis, the things that come floating down the river are crazy, but when the river literally consumes the village, its down right treacherous.

This flood, as I understand it, depends on the tide going down very soon. From what I understand it should start to go out shortly, but I'm not sure. Even if it does, the damage is going to be devastating.

Pretty damned serious flooding.  Don't anyone say the PNW has inconsequential weather.  The flooding we had when I arrived outside Seattle was only about 6'.  I can only imagine what "9 or 10 at least" must look like.... scary as hello!  Man, the news articles I could find don't even touch on how bad that is.  Jimminy crickets.  Calming vibes for you, strength and quick recovery for your family.  ((hugs))

Kingcome won't be covered in the news I don't think. Its a very secluded area, not exactly front page stuff if you know what I mean. It is only permanant residence to 106 people currently. And quite far from any sort of highway or road at all for that matter.

ETA: Mostly everyone is safe in Alert Bay now. I think about 20 people stayed behind.

They're getting out! Everyone is getting out! I am so very grateful to everyone that sent vibes. I bet if we sent out vibes for world peace we'd have it by Tuesday... joking aside Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

Prayers for my little (12 yr old) brother would be very much appreciated (if you haven't seen this on my fb), he was hit tonight during his football game helmet to helmet hard after he was already down. Ambulance took him to the hospital, he hurt his neck. He's in a neck brace right now an we're waiting on xrays. DH and I just got back from the hospital, and my brother seems OK just in pain. WORST NIGHT EVER.

Oh no! Prayers for your brother, Stephanie.

And continued good thoughts for your family and the village, Candace.

It's not uncommon for parents to be unable to attend the games here. They do go to the home games, and the ones that are about 40 minutes away, but many of the games are 3 1/2 hours away, so working parents usually just can't make it there weekly. Unfortunately everything is so spread out in the desert.

Steph, we're sending good thoughts out.  That sucks that he was hurt after he was already down.

Yup, it was an illegal hit; he was already down, the whistle was blown, and helmet to helmet....not to mention the kid that hit him was 2 years older (this is my brothers first year on "A Squad";) and 30lbs heavier. Ugh. My brothers not a big kid, he's my height (5'4";), but maybe 115lbs, if that.

Mny of the parents were crying and/or upset.......which scared the s* out of me. I was the first family on the field besides the coaches and EMTs. This was a home game, but my parents were stuck in the bleachers.

Apollo was there, too, the poor dog was nervous wreck, he had no idea what was going on, just that everyone was upset.

........from what I hear, the kid that hit my brother was NAILED by our best player- legal hit, just HARD. It made me a little happier. Actually, I can't believe the kid was still playing to be honest. This is youth football...

LORDY!  115lbs vs 145lbs is quite a big deal.  Fourteen years old is like JV High School Football level in my school days - certainly not Youth Football.  Your poor brother!!!  Wowsa!!  When do you find out about the x-rays - ie, confirming the status of bones, etc.  I'm anxious for you.  LORDY!!!  That poor kid!  How is your mom holding up???  Of course you all have extra prayers/good healing energy from me!!  Consider that hug earlier just the start.

Candace, from what I last saw on facebook, it looked like everyone was getting out ok. Hope that's still true.

Stephanie, I hope your brother is ok.  What every happened to not hitting a man when he's already down. I don't know much about football. Does that kid get some sort of penalty, like a misconduct like he would in hockey? If he doesn't he should.
