I talk about you guys so often to my DH that now when I'm talking about someone and their dog(s) he says, "Ok, are these real people or internet people?" LMAO!
Tell him to behave or I will send my very REAL pug up there to KISS HIM UNTIL HE SUBMITS!!!! (ohhh that IS a threat, truly that is -- the power of the pug kisses ... better than a 2 x 4!!!!)
Want to add a serious comment tho --
I moderate another little board that's existed MANY years. (like 13 that I've been on it). It's now dwindled to almost nothing -- but it's still a gathering place for more than a few of us. Long ago we exchanged emails -- and essentially used the board to just touch base. folks from ALL over the world -- from New Zealand to SW Canada and all in between from west to east.
It's honestly all about the investment of time -- and the willingness to be a "friend". I've seen incredible long-term friendships -- life changes -- good & bad things. Out of the core group I've met 3 and several of these folks are among the best friends I've ever had. (Rita - that we got Tink from is one of them).
Things come and go -- some boards are popular for a "few minutes" and then wane. This board has gone thru some DEEP changes -- some of them very difficult. But the core group of folks kept the connection and cared.
And sometimes it's about taking the extra time to really communicate ... or to BE silly (and sometimes being silly just to encourage someone). It's one of the wonderful things the Internet has done for us -- taking that extra bit of time -- to either understand someone's point of view (even if you DON'T agree) or whatever.
Things like the swaps done on here -- it's a big deal.
For someone who met their husband online, I can tell you -- when David and I were first evaluating this "L word" (ohh that was scarey) one of the first things was a huge desire to connect. To just send each other a card. It suddenly makes the internet "real" -- cos a real person put the stamp on it.
constructive ... rather than destructive. it all comes down to choices. and fun ...
