What Kind of Dog Has Bitten You?

I've only been bitten twice.  The first time was when I was a child.  I was bitten by my friends german shepard.  My second bite was last year, by a pittie.  She was a rescue, and totally sweet while I was handling her, but then when I tried to leave she bit me [8|].

I have never been bitten but I have owned a chi/jrt mix that was a biter. IMHO, chi's are extremely territorial and agressive (body of a pip squeek but cojones of a GD!). The only thing that keeps them from falling into the same fate as APB is their size. I loved that dog dearly but he couldn't be around small children and god help anyone that tried to pat him uninvited (by him). Unfortunately, he was the cutest little thing and people loved to oooh and ahhh over him.

GSD, same one, twice.  I was about 11.  First time I tried to break up a fight between him and our other dog.  Second time, we came home from dinner out, it was dark, and when the dogs came out of the house, the GSD ran up and bit me in the butt.

The dog was a stray and a troubled soul.  He bit my brother, our neighbor, and another friend.  We didn't keep him terribly long - had no clue about training and behaviorists.  It may not have helped.  My father's answer to everything was to beat the crap out the offending person or pet.  [>:]

was bitten by a dachshund once. bite in the leg in winter (THICK pants) and he broke some skin. no stitches. but injections for 5 days straight [:@]

bitten by jason in the nose when i just got him. well, ok it wasn't a real bite. no broken skin. just a snap at me. (not that i think that's ok, btw)

(was also bitten by my sister's guinea pig once, when it was fighting with the other guinea pig and we tried to seperate. no biggie..)

When I was a child I was riding my bike past the neighbor's house and their wolf/shepherd mix ran out and bit my leg. Tore my pants, scratched the skin...not serious. I knew the dog and had played with her many times, so I think it was something about the bike.

As a teenager I was walking to another neighbor's house to babysit, and their border collie ran out and bit me.  Again, tore my pants, scratched the skin....not serious.

As a young adult, my Grandmother's long haired terror of a chi bit me (and many other people) several times. He was too little to do any real damage, but man, what a horrid little dog!  He would climb up in a lap, fall asleep, wake up, and bite!  I wasn't a bit sorry when she had him put down.

My most recent (and by far most serious) bite came a couple weeks ago from my own beagle, Jack.  He was trying to go after my Husky, and I stepped in between them.  Jack got me instead.

my dog Kota, a mix bit me trying to drag him out from under the bed.  Can't blame the poor guy, stupid owner. [:@]

chow mix as I was putting one of her pups back within reach of her chain.  Guess she saw me as a threat to her pup that had wandered 6 feet out of her chain zone.  had to get my tetanus shot renewed after that.

Another chow mix on a chain that I (stupidly) leaned over to feel ribs because of a report of malnourishment.  I deserved that one and see that now.  Got me on the leg, just a scratch, ripped my pant leg.

little chi, terriors that some guy had that anyone came near the house and they'd swarm the person and bite at pant legs. [8|]

My Tasha bit two people but neither required stitches or charges.  One she'd fallen into the lake and a stranger was trying to pull her out, she nipped her.  The other was a vet tech in the vet hospital that stuck her hand in her cage after her spay because she felt bad for her. [8|]

Kris got bit by Tasha/Shadow, not sure which, when he tried to break up a fight between the two of them.

I've also been bit by a cat, a black rat snake, a water snake, garter snake, corn snake and ball python.  [:D]

I have worked at a breeding kennel, 2 boarding kennels, the Humane Society, doggy daycare and done pet sitting for 3 years and I have only been bitten by a dog ONCE!  It was a beagle who wondered on the kennel property.  The "house dogs" (Belgian Malinois and 2 whippets) popped the latch on the fence and raced out and attacked the poor beagle.  I had only worked there for 2 months and I had NO idea who to break up a dog fight.  I grabbed the beagle's collar (BIG mistake) and he bit me...broke the skin and also went right through my fingernail.  [:@] After that I learned the proper way to break up a dog fight.

3 Dobermans - Chased me down on a bike when I was 5-6.
1 Chow - Grandmothers house, not really a bite... but would have been if not chained.

10-20 toy dogs.... my Grandmother had a new dog(s) every year or so.  Peks, Poms... etc...  They were all mean dogs with short tempers.

I don't blame any one of these dogs though... The chow was the scariest as it would have taken my face off.

Shih tzu, small terrier cross, lhasa, portugese water dog (that was a vicious attack, not just a bite).  Many close calls too that most certainly would have gotten me if I wasn't quick.  The first two were when I was small, the lhasa suddenly went nuts while I was carrying it when I worked in the boarding kennel and the portie had a history of acting nice til you opened his kennel door, then he liked to attack--THAT dog was put down.  THey just forgot to tell me he was that way.

When I was 9 years old, I was bitten in the face by a chow when I went to kiss her muzzle (my mistake, no stitches, just a huge red welt and bruising). When I was 12, another chow bit me as I went to pet him on the back, he was fine letting me pet him then whipped his head around and bit my hand. My grandmothers toy poodle used to love biting me on the back of the calf whenever I turned my back to him.

I now work in a vet clinic and have been bitten by a Boston Terrier and a very unhappy chihuahua, and grazed by a few other small breed dogs. Breeds that tend to make me a tad weary now after working there and seeing which breeds are usually more reactive are, even though I have met some superb ones, German Shepherds, Chows, lhasas, and a lot of the small terrier breeds. Breeds that I have never met an unpleasant one yet are Pits (some are not happy around other dogs of course) Dobies, Newfoundlands and I'm sure others that I can't think of right now. I do not dislike any breed of dog, there are just some I never let my guard down with and am quite cautious around. I still love on all the Shepherds and Chows who allow me too, though! Big Smile

Once as a child, in the face, by a family friend's Siberian Husky (humans were inside the house and not watching) ...I was in her/his space, right up in this dog's face and making direct eye contact and whamo bamo crunch! nice big teeth from the top of my nose to the bottom of my chin...my whole face was in this dogs mouth for a half of a second.  I yanked back and I'm sure the dog did not bite as hard as she/he was capable of.  I let out a blood curtling scream and was rushed to the ER for a couple of facial scrapes but an enormous life lesson was learned.

    Toller (whats that?) 1

The full name for a Toller is a Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever, or Duck Tolling Retriever. They are sometimes mistaken for goldens, but there are differences.

looks like Chi's and GSDs are in a tie for "most dangerous dog breed". I've always thought a pack of Chi's or JRTs would be the ultimate guard dog, much scarier than any pitty or rottie. I'd run away.
