Slightly OT.
When I was 5, Grandma and I were walking and a GSD came out in it's front yard and toward me and I freaked. The owner called the dog to halt and she did. Then, he let me pet her. After that, I thought GSDs were cool.
When I was 10, I was chased by a neighbor's Doberman but I outran him, losing a sandal in the process.
The only dog bite I have received is from Shadow, a Siberian Husky/ Lab mix. And yes, it was my fault. I had him sedated in order to clip his nails. I got the quick in a few places and the vet told me I could use a direct pressure bandage. I used gauze and medical tape. After he started waking up and walked around a bit, he was drinking some water and I saw the bandage coming loose on his left paw. I didn't want him chewing on that. So I reached around his left side with my right hand to try and remove it and he got me good. Stress fracture of the main knuckle of my index finger and a puncture wound on the palm side of that knuckle. I called the vet again to make sure that we didn't have a rabies problem. Self-treated with iodine, hot water, and a direct pressure bandage. That knuckle ached for a good 4 weeks, which is how I know it was broken. But it was not broken bad enough to require reduction and pins, so no doctor visit. I learned my lesson. He was not fully aware, possibly sore, and thirsty. I should have left well enough alone.
