Is it Friday yet???  I can't wait for this weekend.  I get to go see my BFF!!!

Every year my dad's side of the family does a "Christmas" in Charlotte a couple weeks before actual Christmas, and while I do NOT look forward to that (ugh...am I really related to those people??), the great part is that my BFF lives in Rock Hill, SC, right outside of Charlotte.  So I use the family obligation as an excuse to spend the weekend with her!

We're going out to eat sushi and then see A Christmas Carol on Friday night, then Saturday night after I get back from family hell, we're going to watch Christmas movies, eat popcorn, and drink lots and lots of wine.  Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze in a little shopping, too.

Agh Derek just told me he just realized his permanent resident card has expired, I've been reading up on how to renew it, and it doesn't sound like the easiest thing to do, a lot of paperwork.  Luckily I work for a lawyer, so if a statutory declaration is needed it will be easy enough to get that done.

And it will take about 2 weeks! to get the application form in! darn!

OK I only hte the drivers that don't know how to drive in rain or snow! One highway was riddled with wrecks this morning and the mayor said, and I quote.."we think they built it wrong"...WHAT?

WHY do I look at Mindless Chatter just as I'm about to drink a soda?  And I had *just* cleaned my monitor... lol

Karen, I'm so sorry you're still feeling sick.  Are you sure it's food poisoning?  Poor you!

Just got off the phone w/BFF... I'm so excited for her new pittie (still awaiting home visit, but, ya know...).  They have to wait until after Christmas because the dog is on a steroid because of an allergic reaction, which puts off her spay surgery.  What I am MORE excited about is my friend is an attorney who works with law enforcement.  She started to tell me about the program they're working on so she (and others in her position, etc), can educate law enforcement officers about the signs of dog fighting.  She mentioned a situation where officers were unaware that items noted in a particular situation were evidence of dog-fighting, and thus overlooked an opportunity to levy a charge and/or fine.  I cannot wait for her to own this pittie - she is going to be SUCH a strong voice for them!!

He said it, I swear! This is the outer loop of the city, we are talking country setting, hills, valleys and not a lot of traffic, and in the winter I wouldn't touch that stretch for a million dollars. Toss in a colder than predicted night/morning, people who drive to fast and some snow/sleet/rain mix and you get trouble. I blame the people, not the road...geesh.

I just got off the phone with my sister, she lives on the Wisconsin/Illinois border and my folks live about 20 min south east of her on the Illinois side. I was teasing her about having all her survival gear at the ready and if she was out tuning up the snow blower. She asked when she should expect me for my turn at shoveling. I took a pass.

Seriously though, everyone in this storms path, please take great care.

Man talk about an exciting evening.

I was in the studio recording my shift when DH burst in (he NEVER interrupts me) and said that a car had just hit the house in front of us.  Originally, the first station owner lived in this house and had the radio station, basically in his back yard.  There is a fairly busy road that dead ends into the street that the station is on.  The driveway is dead straight ahead.  The guy said he couldn't stop......so he shot across the cross street, hit the truck that was angle parked in the peoples yard, pushed it sideways against the house and then barreled into the back corner of their house.  The SUV didn't go THROUGH the wall, but lets just say that the corner is no longer terribly straight.  No one was hurt and the driver didn't want the police called, but the wife DID call.  I smelled alcohol VERY strongly, so that may be why they didn't want the police involved.  One of the two men involved was later holding a towel to his head, so it's possible that he was hurt, but we were trying not to get into their business. I did move my car so they could have some light from the headlights on things.

So, almost 2 hours later we were able to leave....the police, ambulance, paramedics and flat bed tow truck finally left and we got out before the wrecker came back for the homeowners truck.  It was clear that the frame was bent and the tailgate was pushed in a good 6".

I was sitting on the front porch waiting for Tyler to potty and a car stopped on the far side of our driveway. I could tell it was a fire department vehicle. And then it turned into our driveway.  Put Tyler in the house and went to see what was up.  They had an "accident" and wanted to be sure that they hadn't done any damage.  AH, dawns the light.....the EMS vehicle and the fire truck had shot right past the station earlier and had to turn around.  It took the fire truck much longer.  When turning around they managed to hit the power pole at the foot of our driveway and mangled the phone box pretty good too.  I mentioned that I had been at the station when the accident happened, had seen the trucks shoot by, and that my son told me that the fire truck was stopped in front of the house because traffic wouldn't let it through.  Apparently that fact made the fire chiefs night...that's what he told me anyway.  The truck hit the pole etc TRYING TO GET THROUGH with flashers and sirens going enroute to a call and the danged traffic refused to yield!

I'll tell you, that totally ticks me off.  I don't care that the phone box needs fixing...the phone and internet work and the phone company is coming out to fix the box before we get 1/2 inch of rain tomorrow.  What ticks me off is that people don't have enough sense to get the hell-o out of the way of a freaking fire truck!  THEY didn't know where the truck was headed and even a few seconds delay can cost a life for crying out loud.  Not to mention that it's against the law to NOT yield to an emergency vehicle.  I'm just steaming over that.

Many years ago, when firefighters still rode on the back of the trucks, a truck in my hometown was enroute to a fire.  A car ran a red light and broadsided the truck, bending the rear axel and driving a fire ax through the head of one of the men.  Even if my Dad had not been a firefighter, that would have hit me hard.

How dare people?????  The ambulance that they don't get out of the way for COULD be carrying one of THEIR loved ones.......the fire truck COULD be racing to try and save THEIR house......

Sorry, I'd better shut up.  Thanks for letting me rant.

Oh Glenda, you're singing my song. DH is a firefighter and I worry far less about him being injured in a fire than I do about him being injured while responding to a call. The stories he tells me make me cringe. I don't understand why people aren't more respectful. They ran a PSA here a few months ago where they showed a couple driving and the fire truck coming up behind them. The wife said they should pull over but the husband said "they can go around". As they pulled into their development, the medic and fire truck were in front of their house and they were loading the guy's sister into the medic. I'm not sure it made a huge difference, but it was very well done.

It's soooo cold here already that I doubt many of my plants will survive the night. I hope the citrus growers have better luck though.

So I finally got around to loading iTunes onto my laptop tonight.  I bought the laptop like 3 months ago when my home desktop died.  Ya, I'm a slacker.  Anyhoo, when I signed into iTunes, I had about $15 left to use on it!!  I must have added a gift card or something and forgotten about it.  It's like found money!!  Now, what songs to add....that's the hard part!

    • Gold Top Dog

We can sing it together then!

I have a 6th sense for sirens.  I always here them before anyone else in the car and I pull over FAST.  Stupid people tick me off big time.

    • Gold Top Dog

DH used to be "that guy" who didn't pull over for emergency responders.  After he had a pretty serious accident, he has developed a new attitude.  Now, he's the first guy getting out of the way.

My MIL rearranged my china in the china cabinet, which I am not thrilled about.  It was my grandmother's stuff, & while I had washed everything last weekend when we brought it home, it was arranged just as my grandmother had left it.  She also polished the silver, which is nice.  Tomorrow, she is planning on "streamlining" my kitchen.  If she survives this week it will be a miracle...

I am absolutely terrified about Wednesday's biopsy.  I know that it's most likely nothing, but I can't stop thinking "what if it isn't ok?"

    • Gold Top Dog

I don't remember what state I go through, I want to say it's CT, that the signs say slowing down and moving over for sirens is the law (as it should be). I don't know how they'd catch you for that, unless maybe an extra cop went along sometimes for that purpose, or if one is sitting out to catch speeders and sees you do it. If it's not an actual crime, it really should be one.

(((Amanda))) - I truly understand and I know that for me, I had to tell myself I'd get thru the first step and then if necessary, I'd deal with the 2nd step, but I wasn't going to try to take it all on at once. The unknown and what-ifs can be overwhelming so try to stay focused on getting the biopsy done and know that you're strong enough to tackle the rest later, if necessary. I'll be saying prayers that it's nothing to worry about.

The MIL stuff would send me to the moon though. My current MIL is a dream and wouldn't dream of doing anything like that. My ex-MIL was a really nice woman but she had that "oh my, let me fix this up for you" attitude. I kept my mouth shut but it hurt my feelings that she treated me like I was inept. It sounds like you're dealing with it really well though. I'm sure she's just trying to find a way to be useful.

I learned a good quote a long time ago that goes something like... only worry once.  Don't worry before you know the truth.  If it was nothing worth worrying about in the end, then you suffered for nothing.  If it turned out to be trouble, then you'll have worried twice.  Esp when it comes to medical issues, you don't hear any of us sending "worry" vibes, right?  Give yourself the benefit of positive vibes in your self/body.

Um, time to get your MIL O-U-T of the house so she doesn't have time for such nonsense.  When you saw the china cabinet, you should have dragged out your best pitiful acting skills and said wistfully "oh, wow... Since this was my grandmother's, I'd set it up just the way she did, as a tribute to her.  I will have to get used to the new look...."  It absolutely puzzles me what compels someone to take over another person's house and re-arrange things when "help" was never asked for.  It's not like you signed yourself up for an episode of Hoarders.... Hmm

So, someone gave me a stuffed dog toy that is supposed to be a Doberman - but the legs are super short and it's kinda chubby in proportions.  Looks like the result of a Doberman/Corgi breeding.  Well, when you squeeze it, Snoop Doggy Dogg's voice says "Bow wow wow.  Yippee yo, yippee yeah."  It's disturbing when this comes out of Henry's mouth.

Edited to add a pic of the Corgiman... Dogi?  Pardon the eyeballs - low light in the living room, and no flash was worse, so the flash over-exposed everything.

    • Gold Top Dog

WOW!  Your "corgiman" is an interesting specimen!  I can honestly say that it's ears are even worse than Cher's!  ( I didn't think that anything could have worse ears than she does.)

    I LOVE Henry!  He's a cutie!
