Shelter open house was yesterday and it went well.  We had 4 dogs and 5 cats adopted and got about $700 in cash donations in addition to food & cleaning supplies.  Everyone loved all the cookies I made - though since I made about 28 dozen and had about 10 dozen leftover, I donated them to the local soup kitchen.

I'm exhausted and am facing a mountain of work, so I'd best get to it.  Julie, I will send you all the snow we get cuz I don't want it.

Great news about the open house going well!

Good luck to all those in Finals week.  My sister is back in Seattle this week taking a final, and also serving jury duty.  She's maintaining her residency there.

I forgot how much I loved Christmas lights and my little tree. It has such a calming effect on my house. I love it! I left the lights on all night

I can picture that and it's inspiring me to get our tree.  My sister wants an 8 foot one, though, since we have high ceilings in this house.  I'm not sure if I'd be able to put something THAT big up by myself.  My 5-6 footers, sure.  Hmm, debating...

Feeling sad that my training friends are having their annual holiday gathering this Friday.  My sister suggested sending me home for Christmas to pack up the storage unit we have there and get the stuff shipped back here.  But that seems to have fallen off the radar.  (Plus it's kinda pointless for me, I don't plan on settling here, so I'd just have to move my stuff again.)  Now, the plan is my 11 yr old nephew coming out (from NH) in January.  His mother's boyfriend (an air traffic controller) insisted he shouldn't fly by himself, so my mother will be accompanying him.  Denver in January.... GREAT time to visit... if you never see snow and find it a novelty.  Say, for instance, if you grew up in FL, a weekend visit to Denver might be cool.  Good thing we're in a big city that always has SOMETHING going on, beyond just the sporting events.

I did go run, and now I'm craving PB. I don't have any bread or crackers so I'm eating it off the knife, LOL.

DH does that all the time. Except he adds chocolate chips. Smile

We're supposed to get a big winter storm starting tomorrow night. I'm actually excited. I think snow makes it more Christmasy. Plus we're going to cut down our tree this weekend and I wanted to pull Willa on a sled.

I have a coworker who walks around the office with the jar and a spoon, eating it.  He got a ration of doo-doo from a fellow coworker who was disgusted. lol

Yucky here today.  Drizzly, cold and just plain not fit for anything but staying indoors. Twister agrees and has no interest in going outside to potty.  He just looks at me from his little bed and gives me the stink eye when I say lets go do your business.

I made taco soup yesterday and can't wait for dinner.  I don't have to cook and it turned out delicious, despite my having to revise my recipe based on what I had in the pantry.

lmichelle, how did your roast turn out?

I would give all ten of my toes, & eight fingers for a beer right about now.  I would give all ten fingers as well, but I'm not sure how I'd hold my beer.

    That is all.

Poor Gracie feels the same way about that weather - she will not put up a fight, though - she comes with me to the door, runs or steps out then immediately turns around and comes in like.  "TAAA DAH!  I did it!  I went out like you asked."  Uhm, no - please pee outside, and don't make me keep trying, going through this routine a dozen times, until 25 mins later you're dancing around the kitchen like you're about to drop a load.

Meanwhile, Patrick will slink down and "hide" all 85lbs of himself in the carpet.  He thinks he's a chameleon who can blend in and you won't notice that only 2 out of 3 have come to the door.  He acts like it's terribly abusive to go outside.  "Oh, dear lord, I've been good, I promise!  Please, PLEASE don't make me go out.  I'll brush my teeth twice a day and take out the garbage for a month if you spare me this torturous pain."  Have I mentioned he has huge brown sad eyes that would make a Catholic nun feel guilty?  All this, unless it's snowing out.  SNOW means a similar routine, only on the outside.... "oh, she can't see me hiding in the snow.  Better yet, I'm deaf.  Yes, they say I'm the Old Man, well, this Old Man has lost his hearing.  Sorry, what's that you say?  I'm pretty sure you said 'Let's SNOW, Patrick', right?"  When he finally decides to come in, he races in and goes "OH MAN, did you see that?  The white cold stuff?  OMG!  OMG!  That's better than rawhides!"

He's a very simple Old Man....

    We got snow last night!!

I am super jealous!! If we got any here, it was just a couple of flakes in the middle of the night that melted right away.  I woke up to blue skies, sunshine and freezing temps.  I'm still cold.  I took DS #2 to lunch at the Putah Creek Cafe in Winters and that was  the only time I've felt warm all day ... in the car with the heater cranked up. I did get to the PO and got the last of the packages I had to mail sent off, so I guess I can get started on wrapping stuff. First, I think I'm going to toss a rice bag in the microwave and zap it for about 5 minutes, then curl up in the recliner with it.  Maybe it will warm up my hands, which right now are so cold I feel like my fingers could snap off.

I went to the gym to work out at lunch and it took me quite awhile of doing cardio to even feel warmed up. Then this guy comes and get on the machine next to me and man, he stunk so bad that I thought I was going to choke. It was that smell when clothes get sour smelling. He hopped off to go get something and I finished up and went to a different area of the gym. I had to pass by him on the way out though and man, that was one stinky guy. Ick!

Today I was supposed to be at a training seminar on managerial skills.  I didn't go back after lunch.  I hope I wasn't being too much of an a-hole about it, but all the speaker did was read the handout and throw in a few anecdotal bits here and there.  Then she would stop every few minutes to push a book or instructional DVD the seminar company sells.  There was also this guy who clearly did not want to be there (said so himself).  He kept taking calls and then stepping out of the room, but not actually moving away from the door.  It would have been less disruptive if he'd actually been on the call IN the room in the hushed voice he used to answer than walking *just* outside the door, raising his voice, and bitching into the phone.  So on lunch break I went home to let Ana out and decided that I could probably get more from reading the handout myself without this annoying guy in the background.  The seminar was at a nice hotel that's spitting distance from my house.  I called the front desk and asked them to leave the speaker a note that "something came up" and I apologize for not being back after lunch.  I got several things done around the house instead.  I feel like a bitch but you know, even my most annoying college profs had more to offer than just reading the handouts and trying to sell me self-help books.  I've been to several of these training seminars b/c I get promotions and raises based on professional development and this one was beyond lame.

And scary!  That sort of thing freaks me out when I hear about it because of the stuff you see on TV but I know that most of the time nothing comes of it but still worries me, for you.

Amanda, Deb could show how to drink without any digits but it's not pretty. lol

Just finished putting the drops in DH's ear again.  He says it's making it worse and whining how he can't hear.  Well, go to the doctor, I say.  Sigh.  I am not a big fan of do it yourself medicine but DH would rather cut off an arm than go to the doctor.

My roast dinner last night went awesome!  Derek's parents and nephew came up, and it was really great!!  I put salt and pepper on top and this montreal steak spices on it, then water in the pan and cooked it for about 80 minutes or so, came out great

and i made the roasted potatoes, onions and carrots Derek loves, and yorkshire pudding!

Derek and I just finished the left overs.  If it was just him and I last night we would have left overs for most of the week!

I'm so glad today, because I'm a lot less stressed out about christmas.  My brother and his fiancee are having christmas dinner for the family at their house, about 40 minute drive from Derek and I, and Derek has made it clear that he does not want to travel anywhere on Christmas, and last night i asked what if my parents pick us up? and he said no.  Well i asked him again today, and he said if we can tag along with my parents, he will go!!!  So I'm so happy that's done with!

And I think I will ask himt to call his mom to see if her and his father and brother and nephew want to come up for dinner christmas eve.  Which is my mother's birthday, but i told her that if his parents come up the night before, then we are free the day of, which she says works fine.  Usually my mother will give a hard time if things don't go her way, and Derek is stubborn, so things sometimes are stressful and hard around here.

But yay not as much stress!  except for the winter road conditions lol

I just cleaned my living room and I have dinner in the oven, I'm waiting for FH and our friend Justin to get back from finding us a Christmas tree.  They are out driving on some back back roads trying to find a tree to cut down Indifferent  I couldn't vacuum though - FH informed me when he left that he has shafttails on eggs next to the central vac (the unit is in the birdroom).  I might have liked to know that information earlier, so I could have vacuumed first.  Oh well I guess.  I was too busy parading around in my new purple coat....yea purple.  It's a normal wool, double breasted coat, but I've never owned a real girl coat before....or anything purple! hehhehe.  I usually only ever have ski/snowboard coats.  I also got new winter boots and these cute brown leather flats.  I am so excited right now!

I also got the standard new Christmas PJ's.  I always get a pair of oversized flannel PJ's (christmas themed) this time of year.

Some days I hate the south, OK, I only hate it when it rains or snows, OK I only hte the drivers that don't know how to drive in rain or snow! One highway was riddled with wrecks this morning and the mayor said, and I quote.."we think they built it wrong"...WHAT?

Try people drive to fast and this road is the outer road of the city, so of course it is going to freeze first...geesh. OK rant over.

I got my SS gift out......YAY!
