Drizzle needs your help

Gallop free at the bridge, Blizzard. You and your cute polka-dotted nosie will be missed.

I'm so sorry you lost your sister, Drizzle. Take time to mourn, but be sure to eat some kibbles and drink some water.

How sad - we're sending comforting thoughts to you and your family, Drizzle.  Run free Blizzard - you were loved immensely and will be missed tremendously.

Oh, DPU, I didn't know... I'm so very sorry! Hugs to you and sweet Drizzle. Hugs to you all... If there's anything I can do...

So deeply sorry for the grief you and Drizzle are both feeling at the loss of your much loved companion, Blizzard; the ache is nearly unfathomable, I know.  Hoping Driz is able to rally a bit more and eat and drink to maintain the strength you'll both need to get through this.

Blizzard, gallop free - you live on in the hearts of those you shared your life with and made an impression on many more - on this board and in a neighborhood where some thought they saw a white horse roaming...

I'm so sorry to read about Blizzard, but I think she had a much longer and happier life than she otherwise would have due to the love and the wonderful care she had.  I hope  you and Drizzle can find some comfort in each other and your memories.

Oh, I'm so sad to read this news tonight.  My deepest condolences to you, David, on your loss of Blizzard.  I know she had a long life with a most devoted caretaker, and even after you told us about her cancer, I knew she remain strong because of the love and attention she received in your home.  She was a beautiful, beautiful girl, and I love the white horse story.  It reminds me of a Harlequin Great Dane I had the pleasure of knowing a few years ago - his name was Hurricane.  The first time I saw him walking with his person, I thought, "Why is that man walking a cow in the school-yard?!"  But we soon had the chance to introduce our dog to him.  Our dog was very large, and Hurricane was the only friend he every met that he had to stretch up to greet!  I remember walking on a VERY foggy morning once, when all of a sudden, this strange shape came out of the fog . . . it was graceful and quiet, but I was a bit afraid for a moment, as was Tonka, who stood still as could be, until we realized it was Hurricane coming to say hello!

I so enjoy reading about your Danes; their names really tickle me.  I am a displaced New Englander who LOVES snow, so Blizzard is a name that warms my heart.  And now I live in Oregon, where Drizzle is an almost daily occurence for several months a year!

I will keep Blizzard in my thoughts and ask my boy, Tonka, to watch for her at the Bridge (he can introduce her to Hurricane, who is at the Bridge, too).  I am so sorry for your loss and the sadness you're struggling with now.  Please read all these words of support to Drizzle and remind her that losing her appetite is perfectly understandable when coping with grief, but that little nibbles will help her feel better each day.  My heart goes out to everyone in your household.  Take care.

This morning, Drizzle refused again to take a meal.  Since Friday evening, she has had only 4 Milkbones and some chicken.  She is drinking water.

I prayer she turns and starts eating.  I know Drizzle is being pulled to go with Blizzard or to stay with me.  Like the white horse story, I hope Drizzle choses to come home.

Please continue to pray and send healing thoughts to Drizzle.  I don't want her to leave, its not her time.

I want life for Drizzle.  Four days without food could send her into an unrecoverable downward spiral.  Blizzard, I love and I miss you but if I have to fight your ghost for Drizzle, then let the battle begin.  This afternoon I force fed Drizzle and I don’t care if she doesn’t like me anymore, its for her own good.  I waited a few hours and then its off we go to create new adventures and new memories, every new day.  Like, I always wanted to take pictures in front of the local Environmental Center.  Done.  We stopped at Burger King afterwards and she took a bite of my Whopper

At this point, whatever works !   I have a feeling that things like this may spark her appetite again.

Drizzle - please eat some more - we're all wanting to read good news about you

DPU she's not going to hate you -- not eating quickly becomes habit.  Once you get past the initial hunger pangs then suddenly you don't WANT food and then you can't keep it down.  Forcing it will give her the energy TO do something, and exercise will spark hunger.

Is there something that really annoys the crap out of her .... like does she have a personal vendetta against squirrels or something?  ANY new experience .. particularly spending time with you **alone** will be beneficial and if she can do something to win your approval it's golden.

I know after I lost Muffin I was convinced I'd lose Foxy UNLESS I did something radical.  So I threw his 17 1/2 year old fragile old behind into BASIC OBEDIENCE.  He'd done it before ... yes.  But thru it I motivated him to get his CGC so HE could go do what Muffin had done.

I used to dangle Muffin's CGC and therapy dog tags in front of him -- mean?  My husband thot so.  But it worked -- it became HIS cause too.  And his next two years were AWESOME.
