Oh, I'm so sad to read this news tonight. My deepest condolences to you, David, on your loss of Blizzard. I know she had a long life with a most devoted caretaker, and even after you told us about her cancer, I knew she remain strong because of the love and attention she received in your home. She was a beautiful, beautiful girl, and I love the white horse story. It reminds me of a Harlequin Great Dane I had the pleasure of knowing a few years ago - his name was Hurricane. The first time I saw him walking with his person, I thought, "Why is that man walking a cow in the school-yard?!" But we soon had the chance to introduce our dog to him. Our dog was very large, and Hurricane was the only friend he every met that he had to stretch up to greet! I remember walking on a VERY foggy morning once, when all of a sudden, this strange shape came out of the fog . . . it was graceful and quiet, but I was a bit afraid for a moment, as was Tonka, who stood still as could be, until we realized it was Hurricane coming to say hello!
I so enjoy reading about your Danes; their names really tickle me. I am a displaced New Englander who LOVES snow, so Blizzard is a name that warms my heart. And now I live in Oregon, where Drizzle is an almost daily occurence for several months a year!
I will keep Blizzard in my thoughts and ask my boy, Tonka, to watch for her at the Bridge (he can introduce her to Hurricane, who is at the Bridge, too). I am so sorry for your loss and the sadness you're struggling with now. Please read all these words of support to Drizzle and remind her that losing her appetite is perfectly understandable when coping with grief, but that little nibbles will help her feel better each day. My heart goes out to everyone in your household. Take care.
