Oh this isn't what I wanted to see -- "both" is really difficult, but can be dealt with.  I'm gonna PM my phone if it will help you.

Saying prayers for you and for sweet Grimm. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this and hope the treatments will work.

I posted the Candles page in the IMHA thread for Grimm (and a hallelujah, one of the other dogs is doing *much better*!!) -- but I figgered I'd put it here for Grimm too!  Hang onto that blood Grimm!!

How is he responding to the meds and transfusion?  Hopefully, the platelets went up quickly for him.

Just checking in to see how things are going. Give grimm some scratches for me!

We brought Grimm home this eve. They didn't want us to as his platelets are still low, but I think being home vs 2 hours away will really help him. In addition, he's held steady at the 11,000 he's at, vs dropping, for two days.  His PCV is low, but has remained the same as well.  He's eating and happy to be home. We have him set up in his crate so that no one roughhouses with him.

So far he's doing well with both.  His transfusion was of packed cells, vs whole blood (what they really wanted to transfuse). Apparently they called in four people with donor dogs and no one could/would come in, so he got the packed cells. A bit annoying, as dogs can receive one transfusion without being typed. We could have used Aesop here for whole blood. Ah well.  (in addition, we asked if we could bring Aesop to have him typed so that we'd know and got a big negative on that tooHmm )

You can get blood at Hemopet (http://www.hemopet.org ) -- strange they were so difficult about what should have been easy, particularly with your own donor.

One of the things we found really beneficial was to ask for a full "super chem" panel EVERY time -- simply because altho it's an extra cost, being able to compare all the liver/kidney values as well as everything else, can often give you a huge leg up on finding infection or problems before it would be visible outwardly.  These dogs can run pancreatitis and a whole host of things easily so just knowing what amylase and lipase are along the way gives you a huge clue when something's off.

Ask them to check for spherocytes since you're still iffy on the IMHA dx.  I don't know if platelets that have been destroyed show like red blood does.
