That's great -- he's getting a good toehold.
Ask them to check spherocytes tho -- his body has to be building blood for the platelets to rise -- but there may still be RBC destruction if that number is static. (it can be tough to tell because RBC's will also 'die' graduaally - -that's normal)
It can take cyclo up to 2 weeks to truly kick in -- this is a SUPERB reading so soon after onset. He's doing incredibly well -- but knowledge is power with this disease. A lot of times they won't check spherocytes unless you ask.
And if you find out -- I would **Love** to know -- spherocytes are the destroyed red blood cells (they actually remain as kind of a little blop thingy) so they can check if there is RBC destruction. But if you can ask -- do the platelets leave behind any sort of signature to know if there's destruction there?? That's something I've never found out. But since you are pretty knowledgeable already they might tell you easily -- it you can ask I'd sure love to know.
A rise of that much AFTER the transfusion was all said and done means he IS gaining ground. That rocks!!
