His platelets are 14,000 today, the highest they've been all weekend :)

His pcv is holding steady at the 21 mark

    That's great -- he's getting a good toehold.

Ask them to check spherocytes tho -- his body has to be building blood for the platelets to rise -- but there may still be RBC destruction if that number is static. (it can be tough to tell because RBC's will also 'die' graduaally - -that's normal)

It can take cyclo up to 2 weeks to truly kick in -- this is a SUPERB reading so soon after onset.  He's doing incredibly well -- but knowledge is power with this disease.  A lot of times they won't check spherocytes unless you ask.

And if you find out -- I would **Love** to know -- spherocytes are the destroyed red blood cells (they actually remain as kind of a little blop thingy) so they can check if there is RBC destruction.  But if you can ask -- do the platelets leave behind any sort of signature to know if there's destruction there??  That's something I've never found out.  But since you are pretty knowledgeable already they might tell you easily -- it you can ask I'd sure love to know.

A rise of that much AFTER the transfusion was all said and done means he IS gaining ground.  That rocks!!

Glad to hear he's holding his own and home.   Good vibes continued for the little guy.

    grab01
(in addition, we asked if we could bring Aesop to have him typed so that we'd know and got a big negative on that tooHmm )

What?!  That does not make any sense at all.  You'd think they would be totally psyched that you probably have your own donor!

I'm glad you got to take him home.  That is great news!!

do the platelets leave behind any sort of signature to know if there's destruction there??

I've only been told about bone marrow tests to indicate production but never have heard anything about destruction indicators.  I'm assuming there isn't anything since she's always had a CBC done and nothing else when they check her.

I'm late seeing this thread, but I'm sending lots of strong, healing vibes to Grimm (and to you, as you deal with the worry and stress).  Luckily, I haven't had first hand experience with this diagnosis or AIHA, but having read about what dogs like Willow, Billy, and others went through, I know it's quite a roller-coaster.  I hope Grimm continues to show the progress you've reported so far.  Gentle ear rubs to Grimm!
