Good thoughts for Grimm, please

Sorry it's IMT but I'm surely glad you recognized it and got diagnosed fast.  Willow's been thru it (and so has Megan's Pirate -- his was pancytopenia only because it was the pheno that he was on, but it's pretty much the same deal).

Prayers, good thots and holler if we can do anything!!

I've never heard of it. Is it a temporary thing?

that's tough to answer -- he'll be on some massive drugs for a while, There will *always* be the threat of a recurrence & he'll never be able to be vaccinated again, and the rest is purely individual and at the discretion of her and her vet.  It also depends on how Grimm responds to the drugs.

Grimm was anemic this morning and had to be taken to Vegas to the referral center. He's getting a transfusion. He has IMHA now along with the IMT

Thanks :)  I am hoping his young age and, prior to this anyway, good health will help him rally

Sending our best wishes and some hope-Willow is an IMT survivor.  Her platelets went to 12,000 the night she was diagnosed.  She only had a 50/50 chance.

Hi, Emmet was diagnosed with ITP in August and went through two transfusions. At one point he was on 17 pills a day. Now he's on one 50mg pill of azothioprine every other day. Over Labor Day weekend, he stopped eating, stopped standing/walking and developed several petichiae. Several phone calls that weekend and a lot of heart-wrenching moments and contemplation - he was suffering unbelievably - led to an acceptance that he likely was not going to pull through. The vet had me rush him in early that Tuesday morning with the warning that it would likely be time to say goodbye. Emmet's numbers were low (particularly platelets), but in a last ditch effort (and after more xrays) my vet replaced his prednisone with a steroid shot that lasts 4 weeks. Getting him off the pred led to a complete turn around. He's doing great now. Jeannie
