Hi, Emmet was diagnosed with ITP in August and went through two transfusions. At one point he was on 17 pills a day. Now he's on one 50mg pill of azothioprine every other day. Over Labor Day weekend, he stopped eating, stopped standing/walking and developed several petichiae. Several phone calls that weekend and a lot of heart-wrenching moments and contemplation - he was suffering unbelievably - led to an acceptance that he likely was not going to pull through. The vet had me rush him in early that Tuesday morning with the warning that it would likely be time to say goodbye. Emmet's numbers were low (particularly platelets), but in a last ditch effort (and after more xrays) my vet replaced his prednisone with a steroid shot that lasts 4 weeks. Getting him off the pred led to a complete turn around. He's doing great now.
