Prayers for my Bugsy please - it was not cancer

    • Bronze

Sending lots of hugs from one "Bugsy" to another.  Here's hoping if it has to come out surgically, that they get all of whatever it is, and that all turns out fine.

How's Bugs today?  Is it getting any smaller?

We're sending good thoughts to the big guy!

Lori it is slightly smaller today - but he is heavily benadryled and that should reduce it slightly so it sort of confirms it is MCT (in my mind anyway)

Thank you all for your support - I am so fortunate to have such a wonderful online community in addition to my local network displaying their concern and affection for my boy

He's been very chilled all day- between a very busy day and very late night and the lack of AC in 96* weather he is content to lay around.  Its hard to not start noticing some other things that can be related once you are hyper alert

DH & I demo'd tile all day so that kept us busy and tired

The Benadryl can mellow him out, too.  Keeping my fingers crossed for you all.

However, Karen -- if it *was* in fact, a sting (and man, that's exactly the place on the butt they DO get stung occasionally) then a lot of benedryl could reduce the lump a bit -- but if it was a nasty sting just benedryl may not completely reduce it either.  So I'm gonna say the jury is still out on that one.

Checking in to see how Bugsy is this morning. Sending lots of hugs and continued good thoughts!

I understand you wanting to be prepared for the worst case scenario Karen and I'd be the same way. I'm still praying that it's something else. (((Hugs)))

Continued good thoughts for Bugsy and ya'll.

It is really hard not to look at the worst case scenario. I went thru it about a month ago and barely breathed until the histopath was back. During the waiting,  I ended up telling myself, until I know for sure, I know nothing. Sometimes we focus so hard on the bad that we push aside all the other less dire possibilities.

Would you consider getting a second opinion on this ?

Thanks everyone - there's not been any change so I'll be calling the vet first thing to get an appointment to get the blood testing.  I've been reading some on MCT's and spoke to a couple of people who have been through it and he certainly has a variety of factors that lean toward him being susceptible to them. So while I believe it might not be a MCT it sure seems to be.

DH is very stressed about it and I am but I just keep thinking practically. We have to do the blood work, then if that points to MCT, we have surgery to get through and recovery.  They'll biopsy and we'll find out whether it is benign or malignant and if the latter, it will be staged. I want to stay calm and relaxed so that Bugsy stays relatively calm and so that I can be thinking clearly as we move through the process.

I am not sure what else it could be at this point.

All your vibes and support are so appreciated and I am sure that they will help us through this as smoothly as possible

Bugsy aka dogzilla aka Bugsaduke sends kisses to all of you

Continued vibes and prayers from us.  Give the big love some kisses from me.

Karen, I've been following your updates, continued good thoughts for you, DH and bugsy.  Fingers crossed for a successful removal on Tuesday!

Sending positive thoughts for clean margins all the way around and a report that says it is not cancerous. On a positive note, if it ends up being mass cell, a friend of mine's dog had mass cell cancer on her side and I think it has been at least 3 years now since the surgery.

we had blood work and had it aspirated today - they did not find mast cells but did find abnormal cancer cells.  They say this likely means it is a soft tissue sarcoma (which is a category not a specific diagnosis).

He will have it removed tomorrow morning and it will be sent to the lab to find out exactly what we are dealing with.

Thank you again for the prayers, vibes and support.  It looks like we need them.

Meanwhile he was full of fire this morning.  We had an awesome swim at the lake, he helped me with some yard work- by help I mean he pelted me with a wubba while I did work, imploring me to throw it for him - which of course I did, he found lots of things he shouldn't have and played keep away.  And most of all was very good at the vet - the tech finally said OK that is enough kisses LOL
