My SIL needs your thoughts and prayers - CoBuHe

Sending lots of prayers. This is such a hard disease and it's so painful to watch the person struggle just to breathe and the panic when they can't get enough breath. (It's what landed my mom in this hospital/rehab for 5 weeks+ this winter.) Barb, you're such a gift to your SIL and the whole family. Lots of hugs

    Barb, any updates?

I was wondering the same thing.  I hope that the news is good if there is an update.

Sorry for the quiet days.  I've had 20 visitors in for a 3 day face to face staff meeting at work.  We've gone 7am to 8pm for the last 3 days.

There is no change in Chyrel's condition.  They didn't even try the weaning process today or yesterday.  The doctors say the next step is to put in the trach (sp).  My niece, her daughter, feels like that is a good next step and we agree and support her decision.  If nothing else, she will get those tubes out of her damaged lungs, and perhaps will be able to communicate.  I can only imagine how hard the discussions will be.  But, reality is that she is miserable.  Who wants to live like this?

It reminds me of when her Mom (and my husband's mom too) had Emphasema (sp?) years ago.  During her last days, she said she wanted to die.  She couldn't handle it any longer.

    Hard decisions for all involved.

Hugs for you and your family!

Oh dear, Barb, this whole situation is just heartbreaking.  My thoughts continue to be with you, SIL & all who love her.  ((HUGS))

This morning, she had the surgery for the tracheotomy (sp?).  She came through the surgery ok....but while in recovery, her lung (or lungs, I'm not sure of the whole picture) collapsed.  So, they had to put the breathing machine back in.  *Sigh*

Rick was able to be at the hospital today with our niece.  They sat in a conference room together for a while waiting for doctors.  It gave him an opportunity to share his personal experiences with his Mom and Dad, which at the time of their deaths, hard choices had to be made.

The doctors continue to say she will come out of this.  Is it false hope?

I ask for continued thoughts and prayers.

Barbara - I never know, but I tend to think any hope is good hope.  But then again, I am a huge believer in the power of prayer and the power of positive thinking.  Am lifting her up -- Thanks for the update.

Barbara I am sorry that the lungs didnt hold up.  Hugs to all of you and I am so glad he was able to share with your neice.  I am sure she already knows that you all are there to lend support.  This is a tough situation, but like Callie, I believe the power of prayer is amazing, I know your SIL doesnt want it this way but there is a reason for everything even tho it may not be apparent...she is still here, there is definately a reason for that.

I'm so sorry Barbara. Is she able to communicate by writing at this point? I can't imagine what it must be like for all of you and especially for her children. My thoughts are with all of you.

You got all the good thoughts I have, Barb.

Is she able to communicate by writing at this point?

She isn't awake long enough to write.  They have her heavily sedated.  And, they have her hands restrained so she doesn't inadvertantly pull out any tubes or IVs.

    Thanks everyone!

Continued prayers and positive thoughts coming from RI. If the doctors say there’s hope, I’d go with it. Hugs to all.

Sending continued good vibes to your SIL and everyone in the family.  I'm sure sitting by and waiting to see if she'll get past the hurdle of the breathing machine is nearly unbearable for all of you.  If she's heavily sedated, hopefully she's as comfortable as possible and will continue to heal to the point where she can be off that machine.  Hang on to any positive news the doctors provide!
