My SIL needs your thoughts and prayers - CoBuHe

My sister in law, Chyrel has been living with COPD for 10 years plus.  The last couple of years she has been living in a nursing home.  She was admitted to the hospital a couple of days ago due to lung failure.  This wasn't the first time she was admitted to the hospital...but this time is the worst.

She is on a breathing machine now and we aren't entirely sure if her lungs will be strong enough to do their job.  The doctors have her sedated too.  We think her time is getting very close.

Most of you know that I'm a spiritual person...not so much religious, but spiritual.  I believe that the life we live now is a phase and that when we die, we transition to the next phase.  Is that phase Heaven?  Maybe.  Do we come back in another life to learn more lessons and teach?  Maybe.  She and I have had this conversation many times.  She leans more towards the religious...but we do agree that there is life after death.  She and I both have experienced things that help support our beliefs.

Anyway, I ask you for your thoughts and prayers so if it is indeed time for her to transition, she does so in peace and without suffering.  I also pray for her two adult kids and ask that they are given strength as they cope with the difficulties ahead of them.

I don't honestly know if its her time right now or not...but if it is, we could sure use some bonefide, proven to work iDog vibes.

Tomorrow, I'll take off most of the day from work and go sit with her.  I just want her to know she is surrounded by love.  I'm going to take a book and read to her.  I think she will enjoy that.

Thank you my friends.  I'm not posting this on Facebook, as my niece is on there, and its just too painful for her right now.  She, of course, is not ready to see her mom leave just yet.

I'm going to go sit with her today.  They have her in a drug induced coma.   I'm going to read to her today.  I have the strongest feeling that she knows we are there with her...When I held her hand yesterday, he heart rate went up.

Barb I am much like you, I want you to know that your SIL, her family and you are in my prayers.  If it be time for her, then  I hope it is a peaceful transition.  Prayers for strength for her children.  Enjoy your day, I am sure she knows you are there.

I agree with you 100%. Reading to her is a wonderful gift. Gentle hugs for all.

I spent several hours with her today and I'm so glad I did.  I was able to receive reports from three doctors:  Her primary care doc, the cardiologist, and the stomach doctor.

All are cautiously optimistic that she wil recover from the current event.  Wow.  This was amazing to hear and just gave my niece chills when I reported all the news to her.

She has pneumonia AND a bacterial blood infection.  However, they feel optimistic that the antibiotics she is receiving will win this battle.

The cardiologist feels that based on the tests done she MAY have had a small heart attack during this current event.  The readings show that the heart has a poor squeeze and her enzymes are too high.  His plan of action is to wait until she is off the breathing machine and the infection is cleared, then do an angiogram and repair any damage that may have occurred.

During the day, she awoke for a few seconds and each time she did, she recognized me then her face softened.  I kept telling her she is doing very well and doing a very good job...and that her job is to relax.  Every time I said this...she relaxed.

All of this is very good news, indeed.  Keep'em coming friends.

ETA:  I started reading to her and somebuddy upstairs told me to stop.  She wasn't enjoying it.  You know that little voice inside you that encourages you and tells you what you should and shouldn't do.  Yeah, it told me quite loudly that she wasn't enjoying the read and to stop.  So I did.  Maybe it was the reading material....maybe she just wanted to rest.

That you for sharing the hopeful update!  Yup, and if somebody upstairs told you to stop reading, I guess you better pay attention :-)  Sending continued prayers, hugs and lots of positive thoughts.

Barb that is really good news.  I am so glad you were there to get the updates.  I know when my sweet hubby has been in the hospital you can wait and wait for hours to talk to the Doc's.  Still sending prayers your way.
