How can this be?

Mrv, don't give the story line away.  The book is on it way.

The disclaimer is not adequate to inhibit behavior on the part of some individuals.

Very good post....what would be a better disclaimer?
What else can you say, other than "Consult A Professional"?

personally, I would prefer the show not air in some cases.

I guess I would prefer self selected viewing (purchase DVDs) and seminars, books etc.  I do realize this is a free market economy and there is a "need" so it will happen.  Dont have to like it personally.

I've addressed this on this thread and others.  Specifically pointing out which of the techniques are risky and why.  I think that would catch people's interest.  At the moment he does have a bit at the end of his show (I think from what I've seen) saying people can also be a "calm assertive leader by setting boundaries" etc.  (This would be a good time to highlight the riskier bits).  At the moment it does send the message that bits of what he does are OK to try on your own.... trouble is JQP then has to untangle which bits are Ok from which bits aren't and JQP isn't always good at that kind of thing.

Where were you on the CM and Fear thread where I tried to get a discussion going on risk taking?  Dimn, keep forgetting I belong to no camp but trying to educate myself.

Yep, lets stop the flow of information because some don't like it. My TV comes with a channel changer.

My opinion was asked, I offered it.... and if you would look back, I did not ask for the overall flow of information to be stopped, rather the mass media approach to be curtailed....

There ya go.  That is exactly what I am saying.  Glad to see we agree on something.

What does your post have to do with weather or not CM is a professional behavior expert? And so what is it you *think* we're agreeing on?

ORIGINAL: mrv  Still have trouble with the fact some folks could easily be hurt or dog be hurt if the techniques are tried.  The disclaimer is not adequate to inhibit behavior on the part of some individuals.

Again, and how many times must this be said, That's not the fault of Cesar. People are responsible for their own actions. Period! The blame game has gone on to long in this country and I like to know when enough is enough.

And who do we put in charge of that? Who decides for us what we should know or not know?

Personal responsbility is a big issue.  Yes people should be held accountable.  So, why should individuals who want to share information not be held to the same standard as the people watching.  If my behavior is likely to impact another by virture of my personality, expertise or strategy, do I allow myself to be off the hook because it all falls on the heads of the people who asked my advice.  Been in the "advice giving" business for a long time,,,, have tempered my approach significantlly over time because my advice may be miscontrued or inappropriate based on unknown factors.  As the "expert" my personal responsibility extended to include that impact on the people who ask for, listen to or over hear my advice.

It appears to me that exception will be taken regardless.  Nothing I can do to stop that.

Lets roll with that shall we. Let's say you like and go skydiving or base jumping, and someone who's never tried it sees you doing it, and decides you make it look so cool they'll try it. They do, then they die. Are you responsible? That would be a scary world to live in. Oh wait, I think that's what it's coming too. Sad.

The flaw in  your argument is that the dog owners aren't trying this stuff on themselves----they're trying it on their dogs.  I don't care if owners give themselves an alpha roll, but what about the dogs?

Your example did not include the fact that observing a sport and trying it without adequate preparation is VERY different than  "teaching it".  To teach is a very large responsibility,  first do no harm.
